I’ve recently now gotten a job at a fire alarm company myself. Even though they’re an Edwards dealer, I’m actually happy to be there as it’s a nice company. Next week, I’m putting together an EST iO1000 test system at the office so that techs can dump test jobs into the system so that they can test stuff to be used in the field. A good tip for working with EST devices: Buy a SIGA-HDT. It helped me from even my first day where I had to get another test system working.

Nic, I do want to add one more thing about the pull stations. I'm just glad they didn't make the move like my school district did on my old middle school when they had the fire alarm system in that building upgraded in 2021. When they upgraded the system from Simplex to I think a Notifier NFS2-3030, they obviously took off the old pull stations, but never put new ones up except in the Main Office. Yeah, that's right, there are basically no pull stations throughout my old middle school. It is pretty much all detectors. I mean I get, students like to pull fire alarms as a frickin prank, but that shouldn't give them the excuse to just leave the building with basically nothing but detectors. Because what if there is a fire and the detector just hasn't picked up on it yet, worse yet, the nearest detector is faulty. I seriously think they should consider putting pull stations back up. I mean, I get that the US and Canada have slightly different laws. But either way, I think it's quite sketchy that there is basically nothing for pull stations throughout my old middle school.

Hey Nick here's a suggestion you should make to the high school and others with a generator: We should have at least one gas can of diesel in the generator and or supply room. The gas can(s) should always be full so that in case of a power outage that last longer than the generator has fuel for we can refill them. That as well as give the generator a bit more fuel to last until refuel can be done. Reason being is that it's NEVER a good idea to run a diesel engine out of gas because that can damage the engine

That wouldn't really work as there is rarely going to be someone to do that job. A small can of diesel would not make that big of a difference in the runtime compared to the large tank they do rarely but sometimes run out of fuel, it's never damages them they will just need a bit longer for the fuel pump to build pressure.

Well my old middle school got an upgrade this summer too. The old system was a Simplex 4100U that replaced an old 4208 in summer of 2003. The new system is a Potter AFC-1000V with Wheelock LED speaker strobes. So yep my middle school has gone to voice evc.

I live in the US, so some things are different in the fire alarm code, but the installers of that original system either were following the code, but the code itself was terrible, or they were not following the code, and the installers themselves were not as experienced as one should be

Gotta say, the way this building was wired for fire alarm seems like quite the shit show. But anyway, I am glad you were able to see the replacement process of your old Middle School's fire alarm system. I'm honestly glad they replaced this system because it was certainly a piece of shit, I bet Jamie was glad too! Because as much as the panel caused so much trouble for you guys and created content for the channel, I felt bad for you guys that system was a shitshow to work with. At the beginning of the video where you were discussing the pull stations, you were a straight up comedian because that was some of the funniest shit I have heard in a long time, but at the same time, I do get the point, there are places where there need to be one and there isn't but there are places where there isn't needed one but there is. But yeah, this is a great video that you put together. To be honest I think Edwards sucks and so does Simplex. What makes Edwards panels worse is they use the resistance values between devices to map out the devices which I don't get why it does that. But hey, let's hope that they were able to fix the wiring for dust collector contactor, so it is not doing Code 3 by the panel. But anyway, you did an amazing job putting together this video!

If you have half a stairwell and another half, connected together, that door can be hollow wood without being non-compliant. In this case, the partition is not compliant, and it's an issue because they worked to make it one, and a partition might be required by law. But if the 2 sides aren't legally required to be seperate fire zones, a non-compliant partition like that is fully legal.

Dont the city fire ispectors and building inspectors ever tour this place because i think theyd have a field day writing up building code violations . both building and fire safety codes dictate how high from the floor pull stations must be they also dictate where extinguishers are to be located and that gym has a few to many doors even the fire men might get lost .

Yes there are annual inspections done by fire department however they do not make the codes grandfathered systems do not have to comply with current codes any upgrades are decided by the engineers and it can be signed off with deficiencies if they are noted.
