Test of a Siemens FireFinder XLS system in a wharehouse facility. The horns & ceiling-mount strobes you see are explosion-proof devises designed by Federal Signal. These are in certain areas due to the explosive nature of contents stored in parts of the facility.
COMING UP NEXT WEEK!!
Watch as me & fellow KZbinr S.E.R. Safety sit down to discuss and answer your questions about what exactly it is I do working as a fire systems inspector for SimplexGrinnell. Also, I will try to answer questions I can about fire alarm/code related topics in general. This video will be posted on S.E.R.'s channel so follow this link below, subscribe, and set up notifications for when the video is released!

I gotta say, the horn at the beginning sounds really sick and raspy! Definitely unhealthy and should be replaced. The horn after that sounds healthy though. The one after that sounds like the tone screw is not adjusted right. I have a Federal Signal 450D that apparently has the same problem, where the screw is either loosened or tightened so much it doesn't sound right. Still, a nice, cool and definitely unique system. I actually have an AC (24VAC) version of those horns, mine is much older though and is the model 30A, and man is it loud! :)

@@relevanteaglealarms109 These are Federal Signal explosion-proof horns, the model most likely being 41X, which is 24VDC. The 31X is the AC version, and these appear to be the DC current versions due to sounding smooth rather than "buzzy" like AC mechanical horns usually are.

@@CaydenLudlow The 30A, from what I can tell it's an older version of Federal Signal's current 31X/41X line. Mine's the 24VAC version, they came in different voltages from what I know. I know kcin556 has one (which he made a video of) along with one of wileyk209zback's old schools having the flush-mount version.

My middle school had those old Federal Signal explosion-proof horns; they were a flush-mount variation, and were the originals to when the school was built in 1957 with an old Gamewell FlexAlarm system. They sure were loud. But they sounded more like typical Federal Vibratone 350s. They may be finally getting a new system this summer though; it'll probably be a Notifier NFS2-640 voice-evac system.

Why does everyone think "ugly" sounding mechanical alarms like that need replaced? They aren't supposed to sound pretty. They're supposed to get you out of the building. The way I see it, if it's making noise at the proper decibel level, strobe still flashes (if it's an AV unit) then you're good to go, on to the next device.

It is fun to see the various locations. I just can't get past not operating the pull station and using smoke for the duct detector for the functional test. The video would be much more interesting and instructional to those not in the industry to see you test the devices properly. I would for instance love to see the manometer measurement for that duct detector showing the airflow through the housing.
@safetech
@safetech 7 жыл бұрын
Cameron Wilkins I have other videos where I use these methods. Including a sensitivity test video. I don't use a manometer being they don't give us one and second, it's not required to use if using aresol smoke for the functional test. I used the smoke method at this facility, just not in video due to time constraints. Bear in mind, your only seeing parts of what I do in the videos. I do countless hours of work on these systems inside and out when I'm not filming. Hopefully I'll be able to film more of me utilizing these methods coming up in the future.

@officialsimplexguy
@officialsimplexguy 3 жыл бұрын
@@vintagesimplexfirealarmsof6440 technically no. However some places may decide to keep the old codings if things such as strobe output are affected dramatically. Which is why lots of old systems nowadays use continuous even after panel replacements since coding the alarms would affect the strobes output. As for march time, there really is no reason for buildings to keep it. Some may choose to keep it since it creates less confusion for occupants after a sudden change in the horn pattern. But these cases are very rare. After panel replacements if the old coding was march time. Good chance it'll get changed
