I have no idea what happened but for some reason during rendering, the text overlaying the random Sonic Riders footage just disappeared. It was a whole bit about how I didn't have footage of this obscure ass game for the satellaview so I was just pretending Sonic Riders was BS FE, but now it just looks really out of place. I think it's funnier this way though so I'm just keeping it.

The Shadow Dragon video is one of my favorite videos and the one the originally led me to play that game for the first time and go on a series wide binge. The line "that's war, or if you're Darros, that's just how it is on this b!tch of an earth" will not leave my head

The reason (I think) FE12's growth rates are so inflated is that they also changed how starshards worked. They were one of the cooler mechanics from 3 ; by just having a starshard in your inventory, your growths increased by a set amount and could be stacked. This meant you could make any unit who joined while you had shards good (sorry roshea) but you couldn't make everyone good because you only had a limited number, and some units could use them better than others by already having a good growth in an important stat and not needing fixing. This also worked well with fe3's 20 stat caps, encouraging you to build several strong units, not just one unstoppable deathbot. I capped julius's strength, speed and defence, it was awesome. In fe12, they inherited fe11's stat caps, and likely reasoned you could create an unstoppable monster even more efficiently if shards increased growths, and axed the mechanic. They then generically increased the growths of every unit with "bad growths" as if they were carrying their best shard which is certainly one of the decisions of all time.

That makes a lot of sense! Just another thing that makes FE12 a bad remake I suppose. I knew before that characters got buffed between FE11 and FE12, but I didn't remember by just how much until i was doing this video, it's absurd. A lot of characters had over 100% of total extra growths, that's dozens of extra stat points per character over the course of a playthrough.

If a unit dies while holding a star shard, do you lose out on the true ending, like legendary weapons in fe6? Or do they get sent to the convoy or something?

I've never had that happen to me actually, but I would assume they go to the convoy because other items do when a unit dies in FE12

Your scathing critique of Chris is based on the flawed assumption that Marth is not in fact the coolest guy ever and being his bestest friend is a dream come true and one of the most touching and emotional stories in gaming. You focus on what was list, and not what was gained, an emotionally fulfilling symbiotic relationship with the hero-king. But they knew western audiences could never understand, which is the real reason they hoarded fe12 for themselves. 12/10 would order pizza with Marth again

The main issue for me as a fe3 book 2 lover is everything that makes fe12 good is in fe3. Most of what makes fe3 bad is there too but the addition of Chris and reclassing just really isn't what I want. Fe3 also has a seperate item inventory and a really dynamic dismounting system which is really lost in fe12. If it weren't for the obtuse snes ui I don't think there'd be any reason to try fe12 at all imo.

the only thing that keeps me from playing this game again is Kris. I have no problems with anything else. I feel like Kris being there really hurts Marth as a character.

Yeah it's bad enough that Kris is kinda obnoxious in his own right, but the fact that he has to be Marth's backbone kind of adversely affects Marth too. Couple that with all of the limelight he steals from Jagen and I REALLY do not like Kris.

So you said you never played FE3, and that's an issue because the bit about Kris replacing Jagen as Marth's adviser is dead wrong. Every moment between Marth and Jagen in FE3 carries over into FE12. You really should have done your own research instead of assuming people insisting this was the case were telling the truth.

Hes a custom unit with alot of restraint thats just Marths grunt. He exists to display the actual characters personality rather than some lame OC chosen one story shit that like a parasite consumes the narrative. I'm waiting for the FE Shadow Dragon + New Mystery of the Emblem + The Satella View Now with lore Remake so I can kill Abel with my Matthis Bishop using Luna and now Nintendo give us a new mechanic totally wtf in which your own unita can betray you because why not so I can have my Sirius & Ogma vs Tomas and the game doesn't care about your feelings so now the game have autosave and the gaiden chapters with stupid requirements like in FE7 are back
