Having watched some PChal (Formerly known as Pokemon Challenges) this is freaking hilarious.

When I was a kid I would accidentally play monopokemon challenges because I can beat every game with whatever my favorite pokemon is at the time by spamming its non-ineffective attack moves.

the social contract you describe doesnt actually differentiate youtube ads from in video sponsors. a regular youtube watcher will already know that there will probably be an advert in the video, so the consent is the same. the sponsorships give the same benefits as the adverts, no? it is the same exact thing as "paying the toll". it is just a slightly more "expensive" toll youre paying, but the function is the same. i really just think youre drawing an arbitrary line between something you do and something other people do because somehow it feels different even though it really isnt. sponsorships are more predatory than youtube ads because they trade in the clout and "relationship" between creator and watcher to sell you something, so i do understand that. but otherwise it is the same. the in video ads may be less intrusive because they are entirely skippable.

This and half the time the product is iffy or downright harmful. Like BetterHelp with unliscensed therapists, or food. I really don't think we should trust KZbinrs, of all people, to advertize or sell something as finnicky as manufactured food, and to know and uphold strict food safety. It's why Mr. Beast bothers me severely, as well as G-Fuel back a year or so with promoting using caffeine way too frequently.

I agree that Pokemon is easy coz its meant to be easy. Atleast the main campaign. But kids can beat pokemon not coz its easy, but coz its simple. I beat og doom and house of the dead when i was 4 and those games are not meant for kids, but was not able to beat the pokemon tcg game for example.
