I had never played a single second of fire emblem before, bought 3H on a whim, and somehow sunk a total of 950 hours into it over the course of roughly 3 years. It's hard to put into words how much of a chokehold this game had me in. The gameplay loop and characters just did not get old. I recently got the urge to go back and do another playthrough, and I still remember the smallest little details after not picking it up for over a year. This game is seared into my brain like an image burned into a TV screen. I'm pretty sure my brain formed a cluster of neurons totally dedicated to storing information about 3H.

Your drawing are adorable! I just recently thought about it myself, how Three Houses has impacted my life. Unlike you, I was already a fan of RPG's, but the characters and writing still stuck with me. And I got to know many people through our shared enjoyment of the game. It's also always fascinating how impressions and experiences of the game differ so strongly person by person. For example my personal enjoyment of the routes would be 1. Blue Lions, 2. Silver Snow, 3. Golden Deer, 4. Black Eagles (yes, I know everyone hates Silver Snow). But Bernadetta is definitely one of the most adorable characters. What you have not mentioned, but I would like to point out is the phenomenal music. It does so many unique and experimental things and never falls flat. Many tracks I hum to myself daily. Of course a soundtrack alone doesn't make a game, but I feel like it is a big part in what gives this game its soul.

This is my favorite game of all time. And I’ve been revisiting it a lot recently because I’ve spent the past five years rotating through the same 5 video games. There is truly none like it. And it frustrates me to not find another rpg game (besides BG3) with the same level of care and depth. They exist but haven’t caught my attention yet.

I started watching my now husband play over his shoulder and he got so (lovingly) annoyed with all of my questions that he bought me the game and dlc. I’m now playing BG3 and have a massive laundry list of RPGs I can’t wait to try and even discovered a love of writing fanfiction (privately lol) because of this one game

This was a nice video! I'm a longtime FE fan, so it's really interesting hearing about newer players' experiences. I love Three Houses immensely. The characters, the music, the story, the customization, all of it. For sure it's my favorite in the series. You picked a really interesting game to jump into the series with! I'm sure you can see with Awakening, but it's not just the absence of the weapon triangle that makes 3H so different. It might get a bit tedious on rapid repeat playthroughs (I like, marathoned 3/4 routes in the first couple months after release), but I think it'll always be special to me.

Yeah, 3H is a game that REALLY made a significant impact in the Fire Emblem community. I started with Awakening and played every game that I could get my hands on since then. I was not a fan of the discourses that came from it, but at least most of the worst things are over and done with. Despite the issues from the discourses, 3H will still be a game that I'll always cherish.

You being adverse to anything that was “weeb shit” is exactly the same feeling I had at the time. I didn’t have very good experiences with anything related to anime, and this game was my real dive into RPGs, tactics games, character writing, storytelling, and anime in general. I grew deeply attached to so many characters, and I was inspired by them as well. Despite the unfinished elements of the story, and the weaker gameplay, Three Houses remains my favorite game of all time. Happy 5 Years to this wonderful game.

this is uncanny, before fe3h i also had an irrational dislike towards anime and weeb games. post fe3h and 5 years later ive played many jrpg's and watched many anime. idk if i would have eventually developed a passion towards this untapped entertainment but fe3h is what definitely brought about this change and for that i am forever thankful for this game haha. also blue lions is best route ;)

Fire Emblem Three Houses and the world of Fodlan as a whole is really a special place. Is it perfect? No, but you can tell plenty of heart went into the characters that inhabit the world and how said world is meant to interact with the characters. The franchise as a whole holds a special place in my heart too, although I started with Fates rather than Houses, and even now I'd be hard pressed to imagine what my tastes and thoughts on storytelling as a whole would look like without this franchise's influence.

One of the things that really stuck out to me in my first playthrough, silver Snow, was that they did such a good job of showing growth with the characters. I remember I thought a lot of them were annoying in the beginning, and then in the time skip they became extremely likeable! More mature. I know it's not likely, but I hope they find a way to do more with the world they've made with these characters

it's a great game. And maybe the only game that has a teacher/classroom simulation in it. I love how they designed the teaching regiment for the instructor and how detailed it is. When I found out that you could actually teach classes, I went nuts, loving every minute of it.

As a person 3 houses was my second switch game (after persona 5). I did the arcs in sliver snow, blue lions, golden deer, and then crimson flower. I ended trying to make my last route a challenge (very stupid decision), I rushed everything. I honestly regret it cause I wasn’t able to beat Rhea in the end. (It didn’t help that it was an axes only challenge) I regret that everyday. I’m a little pissed about my decision so I’m just not gonna play it again. I genuinely loved the game sm, I just didn’t like Edelgard(don’t kill me that’s my opinion). Anyways have a good day, sorry for my ramblings.

I think you like the story and characters so much due to Koeo Techmo's involvement. KT is responsible for Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors and the dev teams for them supported the story and gameplay of FE3H. Hence theres a lot of imagery reused. I think thats why I also really enjoined it as well.

FE3H was also basically my first RPG! Other than some Pokémon games growing up. 3H really helped me out for a while and still does now, it’s such a comfort game for me

Despite everything, 3H really was a great entry into the series. I loved it despite its flaws. I highly recommend you try other games in the series, although many are very hard to acquire or require legally sketchy but mostly safe methods. Path of Radiance, Blazing Blade, and Sacred Stones are solid and easy entries. Pro tip, though, stay far away from Engage even though it’s on Switch. That game takes everything great about 3H and throws it out the window. The gameplay is decent, but if you’re looking for anything else even remotely competent about it, you’re barking up the wrong monastery. Even its selling point of celebrating the series is kinda hollow when you realize the returning characters are shallow imitations of themselves. Resist the urge and find other games.

I won't deny that i myself have issues with engage's writing, and pretty much every character before Alchryst, but engage is so much better. While I liked most of the characters, 3 houses' gameplay was so awful, I thought I had no more interest in the series. Engage turned that around completely, even just playing the first chapter, I was already having so much more fun with weapon triangle, skills that are more than just basic stat boosts, maps that aren't just massive open fields with a couple trees. Also, I think you missed the whole point of his video saying let people try new stuff. Just because you didn't like engage doesn't mean other people won't.

Coming to the comments to say your script-writing is really good! Don't worry! Then again, I'm not really sure what good script-writing is. I really related to your experience discovering a personal love for story-telling in 3H and reevaluating what good stories are like and mean to you through the years. Also, 3H was also my first Fire Emblem game, and I'm now deep in my own rabbit hole with 10 FE games under my belt. (I have a problem). Most of the series is unfortunately unavailable unless it's through emulation. If you don't mind it, I would recommend you FE9 Path of Radiance, aka the Ike game. It combines good storytelling and some character interactions between story chapters, like Three Houses, while bringing a good FE gameplay experience with interesting gameplay elements, if maybe a little on the easier side. Oh, and the graphics and animations are a little washed out, but I promise it's good. Also, any of the GBA titles recently available on the Switch (or emulator again 'cause expensive). They bring a polished, classic FE gameplay formula with a ton of style, considering the hardware limitations, even if they're not as strong on the story or character departments, since supports are a bit of a hassle to unlock (best to look it up).

I'm not aware on recent 3H discussion , but I never heard gameplay complaints that it was too easy. The monastery feels like a list of chores just to get back to battles which have worse maps, skills, and unique mechanics compared to previous entries. It improves some social aspects, which pairs well with the game's good writing and tone, but the tactical gameplay was unbearable. Having been a die hard fan since a bit before awakening, first trying 3H made me wonder if I even really liked FE or if it was just a passing fad. Eventually I gave engage a shot and now I'm back, but I still just can't go back to play 3H. I can appreciate it's characters (tho linhart and Fred can just go die) and I'm glad it got more people interested in FE and RPGs in general. Now I just pray that Nintendo can make the next game as fun as engage, but with not bad writing, and we'll have best of both worlds.

Fe3h made me realize I wasn't straight. This game came out at the perfect moment for me, the summer between HS and Uni, which really lodged that feeling of growth into me. Now that 5 years have passed, I've lived through a pandemic, changed my opinions on many topics, generally become less of a stick-in-the-mud, and wallet so much lighter. I've grown a lot, and while this game didn't cause all that change, it definitely got the ball rolling.
