The "It was comforting" choice in the A support is one of my favorite dialogue choices in the entire game. One of the few times that the game lets you get weird. Most of the time, you are forced to refuse flirting (i.e Manuela or Dorothea) or actively scold it (in the case of Sylvain or Lorenz). The fact that Rhea gets weird and you're allowed to like it in-game is amazing and I wish Byleth could have more choices like that. It just makes for a more interesting character and less of a cardboard cutout. It's one of the things that makes Dragon Age Origins so much more immersive.

You're given a positive (it was comforting), negative (please don't do that again) and neutral (not at all) choice to something startling and weird, which is not always the case in this game. A lot of times I feel the dialogue choices in the game are two versions of the same thing. But this one allows you brief control over how a character feels about something, which is what should have been done more if they wanted Byleth to be more avatar-like. That's kinda why I mention the game "Dragon Age Origins" in my original post, because that game let's you go down so many different emotional paths with your character. It truly feels like you have a lot of control over their relationships with the party and others.

That's actually a misconception, it wasn't until the Church lost power after the Middle Ages that their anti-incest laws (Pretty harsh and constant issues for the English monarchy for some forsaken reason) started to get ignored, primarily by the Habsburgs. The incest is still realistic, given the Church of Sothis ended up promoting more or less the same amount of incest that similar bloodline focused religions of the ancient world, just in a different era or cultural region.

When I was a kid, me and my best friend became blood brothers, but unless he knocks up my GF, then his DNA isn't going to be in my child. Same goes for carrying Sothis. Sothis was not awake until the start of the game, and there's no reason to believe a transplanted creststone would be any more capable of altering a person's DNA than a pacemaker could. She may have created Byleth's mother, but they would still only be related if she was created by conventional means via childbirth, or some kind of artificial equivalent using Rhea's own body for the base. She definitely is connected to Byleth spiritually and magically, but there's no evidence that this is actual incest, despite everyone making stupid Alabama jokes in the comments.

@Gabriel Thesken I don't think it's that Dimitri doesn't care. I think the reason he never goes after the Agarthans is because he has no idea they exist. In his path, while I'm pretty sure he realizes that Edelgard wasn't at fault, he doesn't ever realize that it was the work of a completely different group. The only thing he realizes by the end is that there's a distinct possibility that his step mother, AKA Edelgard's birth mother, may have caused the Tradgedy of Duscur by having his father killed in an attempt to get away from him.

There's a few people who claimed they're not, and I'm inclined to believe them. Through the crest stones (which are essentially the hearts of beings like Sothis and Rhea) they share a magical link, since the one in Byleth comes from Sothis, who is Rhea's mom, but I don't think Rhea actually had any direct children. Maybe she's thought of a few sisters from the church as her daughters, such as Byleth's mom but I haven't seen anything on any of the paths that actually suggest a blood relation to any of them.

It’s mostly because of Rhea creating Sitri(Byleth’s mom) with her own blood which technically would make you blood related. Then again Rhea is just her creator, I think it just depends on whether you believe that “If someone created a person, but not biologically, would you consider them to be their parent or separate it into just creator”. Because there’s some characters in media that created life and is considered to be their parent, like for an example: Professor Utonium is the creator of the Power Puff Girls and he himself considered himself to be their father as they do for him. This is what I can say is what separate how people see this relationship and honestly that’s okay, I may see Rhea as Sitri’s mom which means I see her as Byleth’s grandmother, but if someone else doesn’t see that way, then it’s perfectly okay 👌

I don't buy into that. Consider real world applications; when we do blood transfusions for medical purposes (As Rhea claims she had saved Jeralt through). Are you suddenly family to the person whoms blood was donated to you? Do you share any familial bonds because of a procedure? Rhea's blood is unique as with all nabateans. When mortals are given dosage, they are healed and empowered by it. You may be connected to Rhea from said blood, but you are not their child, nor offspring. Sitri; Byleth's mother was a sickly woman who came into Rhea's care who became part of Rhea's experiments to try and resurrect her mother through a mortal vessel. Rhea treated Sitri like her own child but I always found that to be more of trying to prepare for the familial return of Sothis. Each experiment had failed and Byleth's mother sought to save Byleth (Who was bound to be stillborn if he/she didn't get intervention). Rhea's only bond to Byleth is more like.. a nurse or at worst; a Wet nurse at that. She helped save Byleth's life, and their only connection is her blood that empowers the crest of flames. Rhea is a dragon, Byleth is a human.

Though the accusation of incest is... creditable. Rhea's romance always struck me as a lonely person unable to move on from the loss of her mother. She tried to recreate her mother through Byleth, but instead recognizes she simply cannot gain what she lost so long ago. Though Byleth carries Sothis' power. Byleth is still the child of Jeralt and Sitri. Sitri wasn't a natural child to Rhea. But a familial bond created due to her weakened health. This romance is finnicky, but Rhea is still a stranger to Byleth. Carrying the blood of Rhea that powers the Crest of Flames within him/her. Byleth aids Rhea in moving on from the pain of her mother's death. Accepting a new future for herself. If they fall in love, it comes without warning the kinship they shared upon meeting. How quickly his/her presence eases Rhea to seek a new life. Rather than try to restore what was taken from her.

I am a bit late but still... Rhea and Byleth are not related in any sense! 1) Byleth's mother is not Rhea's "biological daughter", she was just a Puppet for Sothis crest stone in order to be revived. The experiment was a failure because the lack of seiros Blood (there is no evidence that Citri had the crest of seiros of something) and pheraps the lack of Love (?) 2) Jeralt bears the crest of seiros because a blood trasfusion. Think about blood donators: if you receive blood from another person (external of your own family of course) you will not be going to be related in any case. 3) Sothis admits that she would never take control of Byleth's body. When she disappers she fuses her soul with Byleth's, but he does not acquire omniscence or something (think about Jesus christ as a person and at same time a part of god, but not God himself). Ps: Her ass is THICC as hell.
