"Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move" ("Mitima iyake Moto, Mapazi ayende"
The song by "Ndi Mulungu Sounds" thus composed by Fr. Augustine Kaliu, (sponsored by Pontifical Mission Societies Malawi), sang together with James Mwambene (Tiyo) also backed by Charles Chabwa is based on Luke 24:13-35 (The road to Emaus) (Zochitika pa Njira yopita ku Emausi).
This is Pope Francis' chosen theme for the 2023 World Mission Sunday. It is an invitation to remember that:
Life can be compared to a journey like our friends who were going to Emaus. Their conversation was based on Jesus whom they had all hopes and belief to be their Saviour yet he got killed. In their human thinking capacity, all was lost and their dreams were shattered.
Jesus accompanied them and they would not recognise Him. One of the two, Cleopas had to "angrily" ask Jesus "Are you the only stranger in Jerusalem"? ("Mu Yerusalemu mlendo ndinu nokha?") Thus after He asked them what they were discussing?
This led to Jesus' "Explanation of the Word" and the "Breaking of the Bread" which "opened their eyes" ("Yesu natambasula Malembo Oyera, Mabuku a Mose , Aneneri Oyera, kenaka Buledi nanyemanyema....Maso napenyapenya")
They testified that their hearts were "set on fire " as Jesus gave them the "Homily" (Explanation of the Word) and the Breaking of the Bread "The Eucharist". This opened their eyes.....and indeed their Feet were "on the move" going back to Jerusalem to testify that "Indeed, Jesus is Risen"
Through 2023 Mission Sunday, Our Lord Jesus Christ through Pope Francis is calling all of us to remember to Listen to the Word of God and to receive Him in the Eucharist for us to have the "Energy" the "Zeal" and "Fire" to move our Feet to preach the Word of God to the ends of the earth.
We are in a world where so much is happening that can make us flag and sluggish in our Faith: Family issues, Vocation crisis, War, Political challenges, Poverty, Diseases, Identity crisis and many others. In the midst of all this, we are called to "Keep calm, Pause, Read the word of God, Reflect and Meditate upon it and above all to receive the "Word made Flesh" in the Blessed Sacrament and move our feet to spread the Word to the whole world as God's true missionaries. The world needs our testimony! The world needs our voice! The world needs our song: "Hearts on Fire, Feet on the Move"!
