YES!! I can't believe you found this video, haha. This is amazing! When I was doing research for this series, your channel was one of the first I came across talking about Yasumasa Koyama and his sound design. I ended up downloading a bunch of the sound effects you had ripped from various shows off of your Google drive folder, so thank you for that. I wanted to plug your channel at some point to try and give back, but now I have to! This series is probably going to be like 5-6 episodes long, but I might have to do a special episode just about your channel and how people can get the sound effects from you if they wanted to use them for their own sound design projects, if that's alright with you, of course. Sorry for the rant, I appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment, it means so much to me!

And thanks for offering to help! I am right there with you, if you ever do decide to do a video essay type project and need some help, let me know! I'd be super down to pitch in. And making a video about your channel would fit right into the series. Kind of like a "here's all the sound effects, now go make your own thing" type of video. I feel like your channel is super unique and deserves some more recognition, although I am extremely small and probably wouldn't help you out very much, lol. sound design is such an underrated part of anime, it was incredibly hype hearing ODM gear for the first time in season 4 after spending weeks in marley, naruto's rasengan is ingrained into anime history, and todoroki's tinkling ice makes him feel powerful. so many other sound effects help push a story to the next level, and the crunchiness and distortion gives fire force's flames a very dangerous feel to it; fire in anime doesn't feel very dangerous compared to literally anything, and the sound design of fire force really sells the picture of action and danger

As an addendum to what I said in the other video, I feel like these sound effects, being so tied so well to each character, enhance the character-driven storytelling of the show. This is especially helpful when writing a large cast, multiple characters acting at the same time. The sound effects excel at making sure the viewer focuses on the character that is meant to be focused on every single millisecond. By doing this, viewers are better able to see characters' movements and expressions, enhancing the power that character has in that moment of the story.
@DrewMalou3 жыл бұрын
That's such a great point! It definitely subconsciously cues the viewer in to who is performing what action. Definitely makes the viewing experience so much more enjoyable. Good points all around, I feel like you should be writing some video essays!

I never realised how important sound effects and sound design was until watching Fireforce. My top 3 indicators of a good anime as good/fluid animation/graphics, good plot, and the cherry on top was if it had a good music score that really fits well with the theme. Yet after watching Fire Force I realized how important and impactful good sound design is, especially in intense fight scenes. It's so easy to forget and ignore about sound design and most of the time we take it for granted since we don't really actively pay attention to it. Koyama's sound design wasn't just asmr for fight scenes, it really carried the action sequences even down to the minuscule details like their armor/suits clanking or when the explosions broke the sound barrier.
@DrewMalou2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I definitely agree with you! The sound design is often overlooked, yet is so important to convey the story to its audience. This process is often done subconsciously, until someone like Koyama comes along and throws it into the spotlight, haha.

There's one scene where young Joker and young Burns meeting an infernal. And that Infernal scream literally sounds like something from a hollywood blockbuster.

I really loved this anime for it's sound-immersive story telling and it's fight scenes, wasn't for me because of the tsunami wave of weird and random fan service and the kinda subpar plot, but aside from those two things I really enjoyed it

Loved the sound design in the show, and that's already all the positive things I can say about it. The animation is great at times, but other times it's incredibly lackluster too. Hated how a lot of the time characters are straight up badly drawn because the scene isn't deemed important enough to put budget or time into. I get that it happens from time to time, but Fire Force went all out on making characters look horrible whenever not truly needed.
@austingale23883 жыл бұрын
The sound effects beautifully combines the sound of implosion and explosion.
