What about the happy hippie lane did that make it was at the other side of the plaza? They were very lucky that the winds cooperated and didn't blow all over the place anything could have been susceptible to those Sparks and embers that was a big blaze. I saw Will and Dawn were there live streaming too.

Kudo's to the guy doing the video. All the shots were steady, no unnecessary panning around, all short pans were slow (otherwise you get sick to the tummy), zooming in/out was minimal. Very well done and a pleasure to watch for such an unfortunate event.

We're here in Gatlinburg at the Margaritaville Resort. We started hearing sirens early this morning, and could smell it, and see the smoke, but could not see it from our room. From what we saw on the news tonight the Parkway will stay closed until the building can be demolished. I would presume to keep it from falling and injuring people. If there's anything we know about the people that live and work here, they are very resilient. They will rebuild, and quickly. From an old retired firefighter - you have to put the water on the seat of the flames if you hope to do any good. White smoke is good - dark smoke is not good. An un-maned ariel nozzle is not good - it musr have a firefighter at the nozzle to hit the flame at it's base. If I had to judge from the distance I would guess it's a total.

does the city require sprinkler systems in the buildings?

More then likely yes. But some of those buildings were built back when it wasn't required.

Looks like a couple of buildings got totally burnt. Your headline led me to believe the whole downtown was lost! 🔥🏡🔥🏦🔥🏢🔥🏡🔥🗽
