just as an idea have you thought about putting an EPO(emergency power off) on the generator? something that triggers when the fire alarm goes off or as a inside switch. i think it would be cool to see how you would do it
@thetoffeetable2 ай бұрын
That was a really good idea to test the fire alarm for a power outage scenario. To be honest, I'm also surprised that the smoke sensor still tripped so quick with the generator fan running. That's a lot of smoke being blown outside. It must be a big relief knowing that the fire alarm system would still function as intended even in the unlikely event of power outage during a fire. Another great video! Looking forward to the next one! Just a suggestion, but what about using the fog machine to set off the system in future monthly test video? That would be cool.
@thewannabetradesman2 ай бұрын
The most tested fire alarm system ever installed [probably] you've got the detecting a fire part down good - now you should do something to put OUT the fires Also maybe it could be a good idea in the event of a fire to shut off the generator and it's ventilation so as not to give a possible fire a bunch of air to build up. The most likely reason for a fire in that building would be a failure of the generator or some part of it's equipment, which could likely be helped if it was turned off upon smoke detection.

What you should try is putting in a system that switches the fan on and opens the dampers if a fire is detected while the generator is not running. That way, it’ll vent out the smoke pretty quickly, preventing it from building up too much. Kind of like your high school’s smoke exhaust system, in a way!
@nics-systems-electric2 ай бұрын
You would actually want the opposite as you wouldn't want air fuelling the fire
@mbcommandnerd2 ай бұрын
@@nics-systems-electric Good point. I guess in a small space like that, it IS safer to suffocate the fire than to give it more air.
@dashcamandy22422 ай бұрын
It's a great idea to have redundant detection systems, and of course to have the generator shed monitored by the alarm panel in the first place. A bit of spilled oil on the generator's muffler, or exhaust fan failure, and you'd be up a certain creek without the proverbial paddle. It's also a great idea to use simulated real-world scenarios for testing. The more contingencies you plan for, the less likely you are to suffer the consequences of failing to plan for the oddball failure. (And, as I've found, the more contingencies you plan for, the less likely they are to ever occur in the first place, because life just seems to work that way.)

@nics-systems-electric The fire alarm system would still work since in previous videos you say that these have a battery backup in case of a power outage so unless yours doesn't have a battery backup, which it does because when you had a true power outage the one in your house was still going off battery backup so it would tell you from in the house
@thethirdrail83972 ай бұрын
you could place a water sprinkler system in the Gen's Housing! all you would need to do is remove the roof and place the water pipe(s) in its place then build a taller roof that could connect to the house/garage. and you could add a fire door/wall to add some time for the FD to arrive if things go from bad to worse. just an Idea...

A thing you could have done was activate the system without power. Would it be possible for you to tie the garage fire alarm system into the generator with a relay so that it disables the generator when the fire alarm goes off?
