Dame Daphne du Maurier, Lady Browning was an English author and playwright.
Although she is classed as a romantic novelist, her stories have been described as "moody and resonant" with overtones of the paranormal. Her bestselling works were not at first taken seriously by critics, but have since earned an enduring reputation for narrative craft. Many have been successfully adapted into films, including the novels Rebecca, My Cousin Rachel, and Jamaica Inn, and the short stories The Birds and Don't Look Now/Not After Midnight.

This is the story of the trials and travails of the DuMaurier family. Daphne DuMaurier was an author and playwright starting in the 1930s. But this play, written by her, is the history of her family beginning in 1811. A strong streak of artistic talent ran through her ancestors, which led to years of financial struggle. Would any of them ever achieve success?

It's a combination of poor recording techniques and actors trained at rada to speak with a sort of upperclass accent suitable for the stage, not natural.
