Still got a couple stainless clippers in light blue, one in an original sheath the other in kydex that rapid boy did for me years ago. I really like them as they are light small and hold an excellent edge for what the are. I did break one years ago on a Norway trip but that was cause I was trying to folind it's limit which was a frozen twisted and knotted piece of pine when trying to baton with it, and broke in the handle with the short tang, blade was ok so put it in a tin brought it back and rehandled it. I parted was with it eventually sometimes wish I hadn't. Great knives which were so great for the price.

@@RobEvansWoodsman No, of course not friend. But you could decide to keep it as collector's item, or just use it without filming it. That is what I meant. I'm glad that you made video about it. Shows (once again) that one don't need a lot of money for a gear. Cheep knife can be very good bushcraft tool, with a little modification on the spine, and proper sharpening (from your earlier vid). All the best Rob. To you, and your buddies! 👍

These older Clipper Moras 12c27 steel, feels 1 or 2 degrees higher hardness. If for example newer Mora Companions, are made around 56hrc,then the clippers, feel like 57 to 58 hrc to me. I might be wrong though. The finish on the newer models, is way better, especially on the blades. Not only the spines but also the edge bevels geometries and finish, is way better than the older Clipper. There was also a mid era, where the 1st Companion models, had some small ridges on the scandi edge bevel, that the new ones don't have. The Clipper makes a better fishing and general use knife, because of the thinner scandi grind! I like them both! Good job again Rob!

Good fun, Rob. Well done with fire. As far as keeping it cold Yeti is good. But if you want something to keep it hot, try Zojirushi. Japanese manufacturer, some made in Japan some in Thailand, and a bit pricey. But, brother they are Goooood. I take 1.2 liter bottle coastal rock angling in the winter. Fill it with boiling water around midnight, and you can cook instant noodles in the afternoon. With proper prep, of course. Even the long and skinny one, 600ml, filled with hot coffee, will burn your lips after 4~5 hours. Cold stuff? 2 liter I take on camping trips in summer will freeze ice cubes together and keep them that way for 18 hours. No so bushcrafty, but good nonetheless. OK I gave you a tip. Maybe I can ask one back, Rob. I am looking for a knife sharpening system to reprofile some recurve blades. I can maintain the edge with rods but reprofiling cannot be done freehanding with rods. Suggestions?
@RobEvansWoodsman3 жыл бұрын
I can't stick recurve blades for that reason. I'd use a sanding drum on a pillar drill or be very careful with a Dremel tool, round diamond files are another option but quite rough, various grit quality abrasive sheets stuck on a section of broom handle, they'll all work my friend. I bet the Japanese flasks aren't cheap! Sounds excellent.

I swear by the old-fashioned green, Stanley vacuum flasks. Lifetime warranty. I put some ice in one at the start of the last Wilderness Gathering. There was still useable ice left (enough for a round or two of gins and tonic) on the Sunday evening. Geoff Peck will attest to it! 😉

My companion in carbon was my first mora. It's gone through 3 experimental profiles by now, is probably a good 1/8-1/4 " shorter than when I bought it but it's a great go to knife for general use or carving. I recommend to all. Thanks for sharing brother. Stay healthy
@jongjoorhee9313 жыл бұрын
I think I found a solution Rob. I could fashion a drumsander out of dremel tool. It has a variable speed and I need to make a small drumsander about 2~3 inches long. I will give it a go in a few weeks time and let you know.

Another honest and good review. I never could find a Robust Mora in South Africa but I bought the Companion. Used it yesterday to carve a spoon and enjoyed the exercise. I see one company has a Garberg but it is very expensive. I will go and see if you reviewed a Gerberg cause I put some trust in your opinion. Be Blessed Rob
@RobEvansWoodsman3 жыл бұрын
There's a few videos with me using a Garberg, carbon and stainless. Good strong knife but not a carver, more of a small survival/utility knife with a scandi and microbevel, I've sharpened my carbon to a zero.

Cheers Rob - shame Mora don’t have the sharper spine on the companion out of the box like they’ve done on the Kansbol or the Garberg
@kentgreenough753 жыл бұрын
@DTL I live in Finland and I see far more Moras on workers in construction sites and jobs than in the woods. The stamping process creates the rounded spines and flattening the spine would raise the costs and make them uncomfortable on the job site. No ferro rods there either.

I have that knife and I try making little kindlin like you do and it’s like trying get a knife into concrete. I sharpened it but can’t believe it’s not sharp enough , unless they need loads of sharpening . It’s a big battle and takes so much work and the knife won’t even really split a like the way you do , what is wrong with my knife
@RobEvansWoodsman3 жыл бұрын
Could be the wood, the wood I used was straight grained, practically knot free and very dry, there's always a logical explanation, a knife dosent need to be sharp to split wood
@jimneysweep98103 жыл бұрын
@@RobEvansWoodsman hey thanks for reply . The wood I am practicing on is wood delivered to the house for home fire and is most likely been sitting drying out for ages ? Lots of knots on it all too but even on straight bits it’s really hard to split , even with a small hand ax

Mora...nobody makes a knife three times the quality of a Mora but many sell products three times the price and/or more. I got the Mora 2000 and it's money well bloody spend in my opinion.
