I will be working on my 10.2 fire mage guide over the next few weeks for those asking - In short, after 4 set we have to spend less aggressively and save our FB / phoenix flames more heavily to line up with big combusts. To reach high levels of damage, you will also be hunting the mega-rare trinket off of last boss (at which point your stat prio changes to favor crit) I don't enjoy the tier set changes, but it is what it is. Expect fire to be around B to B+ tier in raid and better off in M+ (when it isn't a sanguine week)

i dropped fire at the beginning of s2 and mained dev evoker (currently 7/9m), always kept my mage on the side just slowly gearing it. and then the patch comes out, and I'm blown away by how fun the spec is. fluid gameplay, no more fucking rune, FS contributes to hu/hs. meteor is juicy/impactful. mass barrier is a godsend, I've been wanting a mage raid CD for a while. my mage is 440ish ilvl, and i was runnin with my guildies who are like 445+ completely demolishing the meters in keys, and even cranking in raid.

The defensive aspect is super underrated as well - Mass barrier feels really impactful, and Ice Cold is a pretty crazy defensive added onto our already good survivability kit. Very thrilled about fire mage in general at the moment, I am so happy they made Flamestrike contribute to hot streak. Can't think of a time where I was more optimistic about fire mage, haha

Thanks bro, just returned to my Mage as my new main- love the changes & how much better the game play feels now. Great clip- well explained, clearly & in detail with the finer points not left out! It's the little things that can really matter imo. Definatly can take a little while to get the different rotations down as fast & smooth as possible, lining up CD's, SKB's or w/e & the diff types of set-up's we do. Hard to perfect with-out those small errors get the most out of our Fire with-out practice & good Clips like yours. If youre a fire mage main thats serious about M+, master the flamestrike rotation inside n outside combustion. You're damage in m+ mostly comes from the trash mobs. The mage rework gave us back the use of 2 spells PF n Flamestrike.

Haha, it's a habit, but there is some justification to jump spamming in combust - you do it to make sure you don't hard cast pyro when we don't want to. Not necessary, but it is kinda nice :P

The new haste trink from mega dungeon is insane for m+, lots of haste on a 1m and if you’re clearing fast the stun never happens, usually end my keys with like 17m on the debuff

If you're outside of Combust/SKB and are low on PF/FB charges then you start fireballing. It's tied to haste, the lower haste you are the more fireball you are spamming since charges take longer to accumulate. Scorching under 30% is always value & is just free hot streaks because we are guarunteed to crit. In m+ hard casting flamestrike is better than fireball above 3 targets, you can still get heating up from it. Hope this helps!

In M+ (AOE) it always takes me forever to build SKB stacks. Nothing ever seems to crit and I quickly burn through my pheonix/blast stacks. You seem to always be a few stacks off SKB.

It's all the haste stacking that lets me aggressively spend - PI + 40% baseline haste. You are guaranteed crits from PF and then you can follow it up with FB for guaranteed hot streak, but it's a lot of muscle memory

Without lust, you just enter combust as normal unless you're running firestarter. If you're running firestarter you just build up what you can until the mob is under 90% hp, then enter combust. Probably not building an entire SKB unless you're doing a boss that you don't lust on pull like Neltharion

I tab-target spam to not lose my target, I think that is more optimal than mouseover macros but it's something you could try out. I think mouseover for FB/Pf leaves a lot of room for error, but it's personal preference

No - a talent in the general mage tree let's us lust twice. Go to a training dummy and press time warp twice, and now you're in double lust. Once your time warp is off cooldown 4 to 5 minutes later, you also get another self lust from time warp. Really good talent overall

Yeah, as long as you combust just before your SKB hard cast you'll get the 18 second combust. Doesn't change with m+ build

Hey Pump, awesome video mate I rerolled mage from lock on Saturday for my push group and am loving it so far. The only thing I feel like I’m not really understanding is the single target rotation and when to use shifting power. I’ve heard mixed things saying if you go into a boss with no SKB you should combust on pull spam fb and pyro to until no fireballs stacks then shifting power during combust to build an skb go. I was wondering if that is the correct way to do ? I’m just a little confused

For dungeons, you aren't running Firestarter so you are just popping shifting power when you are low on FB/PF charges + combust is on cooldown. You don't do our single target opener with triple fb/Pyro into shifting power or anything like that, just treat shifting power as CDR in dungeons

If you're empty on PF/FB it's fine to shifting power during combust, better than scorch spamming. Hope this helps, when you get to the min/maxxing stage of pushing it kinda requires outside research / watching vods of top streamers to see what they're doing

In general, yeah. Stack vers/haste, after 24s-ish swap to the ignite build and be the single target guy for your m+ groups. Under 24's play flamestrike Sim yourself to be certain though, mastery is still significant in AOE.

Without firestarter in raid single target, just ignore building up SKB and go straight into combust. Your goal is still throwing out as many pyroblasts inside of combustion as possible. I am still progging Mythic Sark and our build setup there cuts Firestarter for Meteor, gets some AOE value on p2 adds. Firestarter gets its value on bosses where you don't lust on pull - more guaranteed crit uptime. Became a lot more niche after the rework

1.Yes, if you are in combustion when meteor hits the ground (not when it is cast) it benefits from combust. 2. You MUST cast combustion before SKB goes off, otherwise you will waste SKB and no additional time will be added. Cast combustion just before your hard cast of pyro is about to finish.

You just take what you get with spoils imo, it isn't worth min/maxxing it - ideally it is the following if you are really min maxing - Outside of lust - anything but crit Inside of lust - anything but haste You get diminishing returns from haste during lust, so haste wouldn't be priority during lust but that's it. Just take whatever spoils gives you though, there isn't one "king" stat that you have to get compared to something like dev evoker

21:18 so this is just because with pyro you get to cast the instant pyro during the travel time of the hardcasted pyro, but with flamestrike your hot streak gets munched instantly since you have no travel time with which to use it. Its kind of lame, would be nice if they gave flamestrike a grace window where its "as if" it travelled for a few ms... just to make the spec feel better and more consistent to play, or, actually GIVE flamestrike a travel time, I mean it looks like it has one since it shoots down from above.

You fireblast mid hard cast with Pyroblast in single target because it is optimal to keep up Feel The Burn, and in AOE you have to not do that to be efficient. No - Living bomb only gets taken in single target to get to the free meteor talent. It's a very underwhelming button with current tuning, maybe a PVP talent. We get living bomb applied as passive damage through the talent Incendiary Eruptions under Flamestrike side, just extra passive damage

In m+ without firestarter you just enter combust as soon as you pull, if you have it up. No need to build up a SKB, unless you have 6 or more stacks

Aggressively spending is usually better, getting to SKB is typically more efficient since you generate charges back faster in combust. At high levels of haste, aggressively spending > saving by default

Fireball is a filler ability that we use when we are low / out of Phoenix flames + FB. Scorch is our execute when anything is under 30% HP and takes the place of fireball, you still want to be using your charges of pf/fb but not nearly as much when mobs are under 30%.

For my UI try importing this, I just edited default UI - not sure how accurate this will be, it is pretty unused. if you got the talent "temporal warp" you can press the time warp ability 2 times. the first time will activate "time warp" and buff all your party/raid members, next one will activate only for you for additional 30% haste it's very good..

Yeah. What Nicolai said. But keep in mind that it's sort of situational. The CD on Timewarp is 5 minutes, so you can double lust at the boss pull, and lust once more mid fight in a raid. The catch is, most raid bosses and or groups don't lust at the start. So it really losses value. But in M+ where you can double lust on the first trash, get in another before the first boss, and maybe one on the boss or save it for the boss. It's a bit weird to manage at first but in the right situations it's great.

Yes, feel the burn is still important. I didn't cover it much, but it's easier to manage now - as long as you're alternating fb - Pyro- pf - Pyro you'll keep it up. If you drop it your haste levels are probably a little low

Ye, the decimal place used to be nice for the SKB weakaura because it was 15 seconds to use SKB, not 30 seconds. Pretty rare you'll ever wait that full duration now, especially with pyroblast being shorter cast time. And yeah, you can't do the target conditional

I actually kind of think haste makes or breaks the entire flowstate of fire mage - I would suggest 30% +. If you are missing large amounts of haste, you will end up running out of PF / FB charges faster and the spec will just play worse. Haste scales the recharge rate of our Fireblast, which is what the spec is built around. It's still playable at low haste, but the upgrades to haste make a huge difference.

You can go fire at 70, just focus on getting high haste gear as soon as possible, class feels a whole lot better with high haste. It's still good starting fresh though, especially now that we do flamestrike in AOE.

Going off of subcreation, I can't suggest a talent setup that is AOE + Firestarter - I believe you get way more value out of the other talent points in the tree, even on tyrannical weeks. mplus.subcreation.net/fire-mage.html As for building hot streaks entering packs, you have two options: Pf + FB, or hard cast flamestrike until you crit & follow it up with fb or pf. Pf + fb ends up being my go-to currently because of how high my haste is - PF + FB regenerate really quickly, but for players at lower haste the hard-cast flamestrike route will be better.

On the ST rotation, why you use your first Combustion so late (I mean, without combustion if one of inst. pyro won't crit then a whole smoothness is ruined), and why is it exactly before the SBK, which gives us combustion anyway?

Using the SKB after we combust gives us an additional 6 seconds of combust, making our combust 18 seconds vs 12 seconds with a normal combust. We use it late because we want to get value out of the talent firestarter, and are gaurunteed crits anyways - the only thing we are missing is all of the stats from being in combust. Firestarter gauruntees crits above 90% hp with pyro/fireball, so the smoothness never gets ruined. You build that SKB really quickly. If you aren't using firestarter, then you just enter combust in your opener

The only DPS loss will be if you drop the Feel the Burn buff from IB - The only time I'm double pyroblasting is after a hard-casting SKB. Mid-cast I use a FB to get my hot streak fully built, then double pyro. Double pyro isn't a rotation, it's just a minor thing you can do with spellcasting since pyroblast has travel time.
