The chief fire officer (CFO) and assistant chief fire officer (ACFO) of Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service both sent messages suggesting they wanted to kill or harm female colleagues.
In the WhatsApp messages - which have been leaked to ITV News - the senior officers also use the words "lazy cow", "bint" and "useless" to refer to women in the service.
Several of the messages target Area Manager Jan Morris, who resigned from the service this year after reading what had been said about her.

@@however-yh2jyIf you work in public safety, where lives are at risk at any given time while on calls, this sort of misogynistic bullshit can emphatically be life threatening. They are meant to have each other's backs in the most dangerous of circumstances, and leaders (term used as loosely as possible) like this put in danger the lives of women in their ranks with this childish boys' club garbage. What is it with women claiming 'misogyny' for men taking a disliking to individual women based on their behaviour? Surely a woman can dislike one man and not be a misandrist so why not the other way? @@jamietherooster Taking a dislike to an individual is normal. Taking issue with someone's performance on the job is also normal. What isn't normal is the immature, unprofessional, unnecessary name calling, insults and threats made by these two senior officers. Here in the US I recall my college boyfriend and his buddies, who worked at a fire station, saying awful things about the first woman on their "team". They made her life a living hell, and she stood up to them. They wouldn't talk to her, eat with her, watch TV with her, and they would do rotten things like leave her to handle the big hose alone, while they never did that to one another. They felt it was an assault on their masculinity that a woman could do their "manly" job, and they tried to make it so that she couldn't.

I didn't understand misogyny until I saw a history program about women going into the workplace during WWI. The union would not allow the women to be fully skilled to do the whole job only part of each process. Their rational "If women could do the whole job it would devalue the skill level of men" 😮. So, in short, women are a threat to how men value themselves and why men are so vicious towards women. They absolutely do NOT want women to be able to do what they do.... the above is generalisation when I say men as I'm a man and can see how toxic it is to our society but since seeing that program I see misogyny everywhere and this what happens when you are valued by your sex, race, religion etc rather than who you are

Yep I agree. As a tennis player I played the local league and university club and once in a while I would play a friendly game with males who at the start of the game where always bashing and laughing that they play against a woman until I would beat them. I thought they were not the strongest players and I had the upper hand of being good technically, but still to this day I can never understand the bullying or the bashing around mentality

Here in the US, the fire culture is really hard on women too. I knew a young firewoman who was told what to make/cook and bring in the next day. The other firemen would tell her at the end of the shift what she was to bring in the next day, homemade cinnamon rolls, baklava, etc. Just really entitled and exist, this was in Wichita, Kansas. Hopefully it wasn't to this heinous level.

These two "chiefs" clearly have too much time on their hands. I suggest they be given even more time to go fishing and leave their jobs to people who will actually do the job instead of trashing any member of their team. And woe to any woman who's in need of being saved from a house fire. These two would probably just leave her to perish.

You know it is just naked male insecurity, when faced with a woman who is performing with dignity and grace. As long as a woman can perform at service standards, none of this should be tolerated. Male or Female you are part of the team, a team that relies upon you to be up to it, in life or death situations. You must trust in others that your life is secure in their hands, or it is all for naught.

Wait! @ 2:17 Anyone in the fire service, male or female, should be able to pass the standard fitness test.. I understand it is harder for women. But in the event of fire, anyone in danger should have the expectation that they have the best chance of being saved. No one should lose life because anyone in the fire service was given a lower standard fitness test. NO one should be in any way speaking or texting about killing or harming anyone. A criminal threat can still be prosecuted even if there is no evidence you had actual intent to carry out the threat. Simply threatening to kill or cause great bodily injury is sufficient. An “electronically communicated” threat includes email, text messages, social media, etc. The text are a reflection of the men.

I still, after 68 years on this planet, completely fail to understand why some men, all too many of them, feel so hateful towards women? Why do they feel so threatened that someone looking for uniforms that fit women fills them with such rage? Treating women like equal members of society, just like every male colleague they have, seems beyond them and an affront to them in some way. Why? I used to be a zoo keeper, just when employers in the UK were stopped, by law, from excluding women on gender grounds. I was given a job in the children's zoo, which was suitable, in their view, for females, but then applied to work on other sections. Despite the fact that I did my work as well and as quickly as my male colleagues, I soon began to encounter overt hostility and sexism, to the extent that I eventually moved to admin, where women were the norm at the lower levels. The attitude of my male colleagues hurt and I couldn't understand why they felt so strongly about someone who had not attacked them in any way. Several other women joined the animal staff, but I regularly heard nasty, sneering remarks behind their backs, usually based on their perceived suitability, or not, as sex objects. Nasty.
