Use to do this over 60 years ago. Used denatured alcohol to melt the shoe wax into the pores of the leather. Video brings back memories . Continued the art into the Marines when we had real leather shoes to spit shine. The same with the bill or our covers.

I don’t think it was actually his choice to not accept the tip. The tattooed woman who was “hanging around” his stall towards the end of the video seemed a little too involved with his denial of the tip as she was the first one to say that he was giving him “too much money.” It was actually a very awkward and tense moment. I actually think that Jason is now compromised in that specific area as they now seem aware of his monetary generosity, but that’s just my ptsd induced hyper vigilance talking.

The lady quite nicely said..." not everyone denies a tip...quite cool..." complimenting the kid's choice. But maybe it had.something to do with both of them working under someone else and him not wanting her to tell their boss he is taking extras money. In my experience street jobs are always under some kind of dirty side... and its obvious the kid does not own that stall

If anything, it oxidizes the polish faster (nice even color) and rapidly burns the volatile vapors being released from the liquid, helping it dry faster. As long as you blow it out before it catches your socks on fire, it’s totally harmless since the leather is already wet from the pre-polish.
