It’s definitely a lot more than putting some pipes together haha. Lots of attics, dry systems (OUTDOORS), preactions (freezers), learning fire codes and working with fire marshals, crawling around attic spaces hunting down air leaks in the summer. Not to mention you will need to know about fire alarm panels, how to disable points so you don’t set off any alarms in a high rise building, etc. anyway.. Been doing it 8 years in North Carolina.. cleared a little over 92k last year. I know people that make more just depends on if you want to sleep in your bed more nights that not. I am also NICET certified which is the way to go if you aren’t union.

@@SovereignMax first trade I've done was Residential Plumbing for 3 years. Whenever I got into the Fire Sprinkler Trade, it's a whole different world. Especially since I entered as a Service Technician Helper. As far as hanging and laying down pipe, it's the same I guess you could say "law" as doing waterlines. Black steel pipe, Galvanized pipe and Orange CPVC. But there's more than doing pipe. Dry Systems, Pre-Actions, Wet Systems, and Nitrogen Systems, Jockey Pumps and Fire Pumps is what we service and troubleshoot for it has electronic switches that make the alarms go off and other devices that send signals to the fire panel. As an apprentice, it was very nerve wrecking setting the alarms off and making sure you're on test cause then the fire department will come out. Not to mention trying to learn all these systems and devices, which is way more knowledge than being an Installer or hanging pipe. Instantly made me want to get back into plumbing and complete my hours to be able to take my journeymen test in Texas. Now almost 4 years in, I'm a Service Technician or Foreman and a licensed RME-I "Inspector". It's good trade, you get to learn about Fire Protection. More licenses you get in the trade like FAL (Fire Alarm) FEL (Fire Extinguisher) and Backflow license, you'll make top money. Just about as a Master Plumber.

The fact you keep saying it's just putting pipes together is wild, sprinkler fitting is HARD work, and can be LONG days. Don't down play it

I totally understand how you feel... I worked a series of crappy jobs my entire life until I got into pharmaceuticals. I'm here to tell you there is a good job out there waiting for you. A job that you won't dread. You just have to keep searching and putting in the effort.. and NEVER give up hope. The rest of your life depends on it.
