Might just be somebody ferrying the rig to an incident already staffed as backup.

This was someone bringing the truck to an incident where the crew were already on scene. As gopnik so nicely put it, 'ferrying'. In rural areas (and some urban areas like Birmingham) these trucks aren't staffed by a crew like they are in urban areas. They're cross-staffed with the Pumping appliances. Thanks!

Thank you! That's known as the 'Scorpion' by E-One. It's essentially a fire engine with a water tower for attacking fire from height, a bit like the 'Squirts' that US Fire Departments have. Some fire services have used 'Water Towers' before but they weren't designed like this. Always amazed by the lack of lighting on European apparatus. Also amazed by the lack of aerials capable of, ya know, fighting fire. And it always seems like the difference between a pump and pump ladder is literally whether or not one has a big as ladder on its back. At least LFB adopted a proper siren instead of that martinshorn bs.

I wonder why the LFB engines have electric horns like the police cars and ambulances do? Most fire engines have separate airhorns.
