The second word ("Yet") in your statement has taken on a new meaning in the last 12 months. While I am very happy that many people have chosen to exercise their 2nd amendment right for the first time and purchase a firearm, some of these individuals are clueless about how a gun works other than it makes a loud noise when it discharges. Just ask any range owner or employee Lol! When you sell weapons or give advice of any kind to the public about them, being accurate and concise is a MUST. To "assume" that everyone has the same level of knowledge and experience you do is not wise, as one little point you miss could equal a trip to the ER for the customer or the courtroom for both of you. I'm not trying to rag on you or your thought process. When a customer buys a new gun it is fairly easy to assess their level of knowledge by asking a few questions and then move on. Some cop an attitude if they get the impression you think they are uneducated or inexperienced (when this happens? they are usually no nothing idiots) so it can be hard? You don't have much time if you are busy but from an ethical standpoint (and a legal one) it is important that to the best of your abilities you try and balance these items. I do not doubt you are a professional at your job. I do know that everyone tends to become complacent at one time or another, ESPECIALLY if 99% of your customers do understand what they came for and how it works. The really sad thing is that in today's world, anything a consumer does wrong is never the fault of the stupid and moronic user? Today, it is the manufacturer and or sales person's responsibility to babysit the world. This mindset is why we have people trying to destroy the very same country that allows them to voice an opinion most of us disagree with and forces McDonalds to print "Attention Idiot-coffee is very hot!!!!" on their cups (coffee is hot? since when???)

I CAN’T wait to watch this. I had a student a year and a half ago tell me that his brother in law loaned him a 9mm and asked if we had that ammo for sale. I told him yes, but when he got to the range (not on the same property as the classroom), he shows me the gun that says 9mm MAKAROV. I told him he can’t use our ammo in that gun and after him FINALLY believing me that it was dangerous to do, I gave him a free rental gun. That led me into a 10min impromptu lecture on knowing what would work in your gun and what wouldn’t.

Hats off to you mate for taking the time to check the gun beforehand, and also to explain the differences between the types of 9mm ammunition! This is the type of gun owners we need more of! Thanks for being a great example for the firearms community. Cheers
@MrRdvs87

@@chadh3441 in my first few weeks teaching, I learned that lesson fast. Nothing dangerous happened, but I saw a lot of it. It usually went around people not reading the suffix for a caliber and buying .38 spl for their LCP 380, .38 super for their .38 spl and so on. The cake taker was when I had a guy show up with a stock g22, telling me it was a g40, but he had 300 rounds of 9mm Luger. I asked if he had ever shot the gun before and he swore up and down that he did. When I asked if he had a conversion barrel, he said no and I asked how he planned to shoot that combination. He didn’t believe that his gun wouldn’t work shooting it until I took the barrel out and dropped a round in to show him that the ammo didn’t fit. People are wild.

VinnyS914 you do know that the 38 Super is NOT the same as the 9x21IMI cartridge correct? 38 super is actually 9x22.5 and is loaded to a normal overall length of 1.270" to fit in a 1911 magazine length, the 9x21IMI is actually 21mm long case, and loaded to 1.169" max to fit into a standard 9x19 magazine length specifically for guns chambered in 9x19 for countries that prohibit use of 9x19. They are completely different and NOT compatible at all besides bullet diameter.

great video, just one think must be corrected:parabellum does not mean "for war " but "get ready for war". Georg Luger of the german firm Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken created the 9x19 bullet. At the gate of DWM there was a sign reciting the phrase of the latin poet Vegezio and the union of the words para and bellum (parabellum) became the company telex address. From then on the 9x19 was known also as the 9mm luger or the 9mm parabellum. The inscription at the gate recited: si vis pacem para bellum. If you desire peace, get ready for war

I lucked into a deal in the 1990s. There was a flood of Hungarian PA63 handguns chambered in 9x18 Makarov that were dirt cheap. I think they were selling for around $75 in my local gun shop. While inspecting a pile, yes pile, of them in the counter I found one stamped 9mm Kurtz. I bought it for $75. Of course 9mm Kurtz is .380ACP. At that time that made a HUGE difference since 380 was easy to find in many different loadings and 9mm Makarov was really only available as 9mm ball in steal cases. I still have that pistol.

In summary when most people say "9mm" they mean the most common 9mm which is 9mm luger. 9mm luger is the same as 9mm parabellum. 9mm Makarov is its own different cartridge exclusively for 9mm Makarov "old" or rare pistols. 9mm Mauser is its own cartridge too and is for old or rare rifles. They had no reason to mention 380 acp, 357 magnum or 357 sig. They go on to mention 3 or more types of 9mm. This is the first I'm. hearing about them. They are so rare and insignificant that I don't think you need to learn them. Make sure your box says 9mm luger or 9mm parabellum and your good to go.... Except for the relevant exceptions that they didn't mention that I will try to summarize now. "+P" means extra pressure and extra power. Read your owners manual or contact the manufacturer, or use their website to find out if your gun is safe to use with the "+p" extra pressure. "+P+" may be dangerous. It is similar to +p but with even more pressure. I don't know what guns this is safe in. 9mm "major" is an elongated 9mm luger cartridge that is only safe in the competition "race guns" designed for it. Honestly I was hoping to learn more about this here. You probably won't find it on store shelves anywhere. You can order if from black dot ammunition. "Match grade" is a meaningless marketing term. If I failed to clear up the rest of the confusion someone please let me know thanks. PS this is not advice and I am not responsible for anybody blowing up their gun.

Many guns on 380 acp say 9mm Kurz or 9mm Corto, also I’ve seen ammo boxes with 9mm corto written in the box, usually it’s on guns and ammo boxes that aren’t produced in the US or that are antiques, sometimes both 9mm corto and 380 auto will be written in the boxes or stamped in the gun, so there was a reason for them to mention it, but you are right about the 357 magnum and 357 sig there was no reason to mention them because they aren’t called 9mm

Hello, I purchased a Winchester 9x23 (9mm 124 grain) I was going to use it on my Glock 26, 9x21 ACP. I understand the 9x23 Largo, you are right it was used by the Spanish Army a long time ago. No I am not going to use it. I think some of the confusion can be solve simply buy and shoot the ammo carved in you gun barrel. Thank you.

Huge fan from Europe here, cradle of civilization :-).... Just a slight correction "para bellum" it is latin and means get ready for war, actually the name of that 9mm, was given as a tribute to Vegecio (IV AD) who wrote "Epitoma rei militaris" he quoted "Si vis pacem, para bellum", which could be translated as: if you want peace, get ready for war or to secure peace is to prepare for war. Later on, General Patton made the quote popular... Thanks for the vids! keep liberty rollin'!!

Love this video, excellent info. Shot some .380 in my 9x19 g34, no problems, too weak to cycle though, not a lot but wanted to see if it will shoot and it does, locally known as a 9mm short. Got a .357sig and loaded them to max specs in manual for reloading and managed to get 1860fps using a monolithic solid copper 85gr bullet, pretty impressive if you ask me, can only drool about what a 9x25 Dillon will do. I use 115gr .355diameter bullets to reload for both my 9x19 and .357sig no problems.

Rabbit holes, you betcha. Last week Midsouth had hornady 9mm bulk bullets on sale, with decimal diameters of .355 and .356 variances across a few different grain weights. I called customer service at Hornady and asked about the .356 diameter bullets and the fella said .356 was more for the 38 Super, but it can be utilized in the 9mm Parabellum. Just flipping through my library of load books, I have only found one section of info that KINDA, with caveat, supports the 355/356 interchangeability, LYMAN CAST Lead bullets, (.3555). Also RCBS cast bullet specs are .356. Cast lead pills have been problematic for me in the past as far 9mm is concerned. I would consider running Plus P .356 FMJ down a carbine, but not a handgun.

@allengrant
@allengrant 4 жыл бұрын
Yep !! You are 100% correct. They also missed the fact that it was originally a 10mm cartridge, necked down and trimmed. The 10mm brass is thicker than 40S&W, to withstand the higher pressures of 357sig. Barrier, ballistics, and overall energy calculations tests confirmed this. The 357SIG falls in-between the 40 and the 10. 40s were not nicknamed "Short and Weak" for no reason! It catered to LEOs who required the ability for fast follow-up shots.......Something a 10mm was incapable of. I own all three calibers, and the difference ( albeit subtle with the exception of the 10mil ), is quite apparent. 357SIG is my EDC, for damn good reasons. As I am a re-loader, I can also unequivocally state that 357SIG is MUCH more time consuming and unforgiving to reload.
