Adding the real life photo of Sergey at the end was just devastating. It impacted me that this was based on a real story, with real people having to go through these emotions and such injustices. The gut-punching truth is that their love was real! Thank you for honoring their love with such a heartfelt film. Knowing that so many people like them had to suffer in the past motivates me to be braver each day because to cherish our freedom now is to also honor the sacrifices of these people who never really got the chance to love as freely. Highly recommend people to go watch it.

This movie is a real gem and I give it 8/10. I kind of hoped for a different ending but the sadness made it better because I love to have my heart broken in a thousand pieces while watching movies. The acting was top-notch and you could almost touch the tension between the main characters at certain parts in the movie. One character is caught in the middle of everything and you can really feel how this character is being treated like trash and it annoyed me like crazy. This movie will give you a mixed bag of feelings, it is at times joyful but also disgusting in the sense of how people are being treated for different reasons. It is overall a wonderful movie.

I love love love the scene when Roman come to see Sergei's play and they talk at the backstage. There is a split on the wall. It represents the seperation. Roman at one side, Sergei at the other side. Roman enters a bit into Sergei's side and invites him to Sochi. Then, Sergei pushes Roman gently to his side, saying his friends are waiting for him. Beautifully written.
@elton34702 жыл бұрын
I finished the movie about an hour ago before posting this comment. This is a compelling movie, where both the male protagonists wanted something so bad, but they simply couldn’t have it. Their love for each other bloomed in the wrong place, at the wrong time. I could just imagine how one pivotal occurence could change multiple lives. This is a must watch. The lines aren’t complex, but you could feel the emotions through and through. The actors are very good, too. The cinematography in the film will coat you in melancholia, that even the scenes where the atmosphere should be jovial, would make you presume as if everything was just temporary bliss.
@marieltorda12593 жыл бұрын
I cried a river while watching this movie. The ending..........it so sad. The actors connect with you and makes you feel what they feel and the sadness will overflow throughout your body. Such a powerful and beautiful love story. But also tragic and painful. To have to hide your love, to lie to yourself, to hurt the ones you love. And all because society can't accept the love between two adults. What a strange world it is.

I honestly don't get why that movie is so overrated. Probably because of Timothee Chalamet. But they have to give this movie a lot of recognition too! This is the best BL movie I've ever seen, and until now I can't move on. I've watched this more than five times, and I'm still amazed at the storyline. How their love struggles, they survive in the complicated situation at that time, how Captain Roman loves Sergey very much, and how Sergey also loves Roman. Although it looks like Roman looks selfish and has no heart, but it was all done for Sergey's sake, and how Sergey was wise in making the decision not to have anything to do with Roman because Roman is already married and has a son, even though in the end Sergey couldn't stand the turmoil of his love and in the end chose to stick with Roman. I really hope this is a second series, because there is still a lot to be told, at least the story about how Roman struggled to find Sergey for seven years until Roman died during the battle. Come on, make a second series.

Watching this movie made me up and down all the time. The sadness ending really touched my heart so badly and I know it's hard to accept but for sure it also better for everyone, Roman and Sergey loved each other, Roman can't leave his family but he couldn't make Luisa happy in their marriage. The most important that their love can't overcome the social prejudices at the time so the best way is to choose the sky where to feel free and fly with the peacefully in mind without any sorrow

I got so much feelings after knowing this based on the true story. The real young Sergey’s face was actually similar to Tom Prior (the actor). I believe Roman was the same. Dima’s situation brought me tears too. I hope this movie will be an awakening for people with controversial mind about non-cisgender sexuality. They had the pressure on their life not just because of being natural, but being against the humane prejudice on gender.

This is an incredible good made film based on the memories book of the actor Sergey Fetisov with the title "The Story of Roman; and with many historical events on it, like the FIREBIRD ballet production with the music by Igor Stravinskyor and the Shakespeare's Hamlet play in Moscow... which really happened at that time. This is not just a simple love story between two men, but also a part of the cultural history in the soviet cold war times. Is very fascinating to notice that this film doesn't show just a soviet communist problem regarding homosexuality in the army... because its predecessor... the American film BURNING BLUE from 2013 (based on a theater play by Greer) show us also a gay witch hunt during the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" era... and has also a tragical ending. Having both films deal with the same issue in their own particular ways shows us that the homophobic sentiment is equal, regardless the political and ideological system. Cheers...!

It was an expensive shipping but I'm glad I bought this on DVD - worth every penny. I received it yesterday, saw 3 times already yesterday and still can't get enough of it. A beautiful movie, well executed by the 2 lead actors. Predictable storylines (typical story development for sobbing gay movies) but hey, this is based on true story. I'm gay, went through military service in my country and had a crush on one of my officers before so all the more I relate so much to the main character Sergey (existed). A powerful, impactful lgbtq movie since Brokeback Mountain to me. Thumbs up.
