His budget was sabotaged by the Bank of England. On Wednesday 21st September 2022, the US Federal Reserve raised the Federal Funds Rate by 0.75%. On Thursday 22nd September 2022, the Bank of England raised the Bank Rate by only 0.5%. At this point a devaluation of sterling against the US dollar was baked in. Currency traders don't take up a position ahead of a government financial statement, so currency traders had a whole day to set up their trades, but it wasn't until after the budget on Friday 23rd September that they pressed the button and sterling devalued. The insurance companies held gilts which, if held to redemption, would cover their liabilities, but when gilt prices fell due to higher interest rates, in the short term they wouldn't. The Bank of England could have temporarily suspended the need to mark to market, but it chose not to do so.

the welfare state cannot go on as it is, we now have multi generational benefits where kids are growing up never seeing an adult go to work so they just end up doing what they see. leave school maybe try a term at college, maybe get a job for 6 months a year but they are totally feckless and so are the parent/s so they arent pushed. if the rent is always paid and you have never worked yourself why would you put pressure on your son or daughter to get a job. they will either get pregnant or convince themselves they have anxiety and depression, the catch all term, no treatment plan just signed off forever, they put their name on a housing list, that is all they know, there isn't the idea of flat sharing or renting, they will just sit and wait to be given one. you then fall into smoking cannabis or spend all day eating junk, no one cooks, it is all oven pizza, takeaways Pringles etc. that is why the obesity is so bad we now have illegal immigrants on electric bikes delivering junk food to people too lazy to work single mothers living a completely sedentary life, I have neighbours who i have never seen dressed, the live in their PJs and just put a coat on and Crocs to go out. we have single mothers who will be single at 18 and continue to have kids into their 40s but will strangely always be single

While i agree that is bad, how about the mass amount of people that come to this country and get everything free? At least if you didn’t have the extra people coming the problem would be half as bad. I think it proves the point that if the government really wanted to they could easily end homelessness. If you can house 10’s of thousands of illegal immigrants you can easily house the homeless

@@theenglishpotato4577 you cannot easily end homelessness because homelessness isn't just about giving someone a home. many are homeless because they are living chaotic lives. drink, drugs etc. you need to deal with the addiction. there are plenty cases where they have been given a home and end up back on the street because they cannot handle the responsibility of bills etc..., they reject hostels because they would need to give up drink or drugs, also you need to give them all sortsof support and take into account neighbours, as someone who lives beside these type of people they can be a real hard work, old furniture gets thrown in the street, dogs barking all the time, fights with other addicts etc
