Wow. I was an 0351 less than a decade ago, and we I remember we formally learned all of this once in SOI, and once while we were in the fleet. I'm happy to know that they gave us a school now. That's pretty cool, I guess.

james miller I left for boot two weeks after graduating high school, and I fucking regretted it. Take your summer and enjoy it. Pick a job that correlates to your hobbies and interest, not because you think it sounds cool. I wanted to be infantry because I thought it'd be super badass and cool, it's not, especially if you're stationed in 29 Palms with 7th Reg. Now I'm an 11 humping almost every week to some fuck off range like 410A 10 miles away in 120 degree weather, taking a shit in a hole I dug and being attacked by fucking bees because they apparently exist out in the fucking desert. But hey, I get to go to a UAS course to be a drone operator in the Corps' new 'futuristic infantry squad' TO so that's cool. Also those embassy guards are MSG, it's a special duty assignment, not an MOS. As for those whitehouse Marines, those guys belong to 8th and I, which is a shitty fucking unit to be in if you like morale and fun, as far as I've heard.

Stupid that they closed this MOS now. What if all the 1371’s are dead or busy elsewhere? There’s 3 Marine divisions with 8 (and sometimes 9) grunt regiments and only 2 Combat Engineer BATTALIONS to Support 3 Marine Divisions. What are they gonna do, pull the Engineers from MLG and the Wing that don’t get as much good training as CEB? Come on. Assaultmen enhance the mobility and lethality of the grunt unit and they don’t have to be attachments. If there’s nothing to blow up, they can help out the 31’s or the 11’s. Grunts jobs are hard enough, no need to take shit away from them.

Yeah but I'd rather take a 51 than an engineer any day because at least a 51 can keep up (hiking, MTCs, and patrols) engineers are a hit or miss I remember working with those dudes from 1st CEB running range 400 and those dudes could not keep up with our squads pace 🤷 so yeah I'd rather stick to a 51

Rah. Just in time for Iran and Ukraine and North Africa, they get rid of it. Armor vs infantry in the future. They should bring back the 51s and make them anti armor/anti drone and give them scramblers to tote in tandem with their rocket and explosives systems. A-Gunner carrys the ammo for the SMAW and the drone scrambler/device/weapon.

Dealwithitboss Be an 03, don’t listen to this guy. Picking the combat engineer mos, doesn’t mean you’re going to be a a cool combat engineer. You’ll probably end up being a fucking bulldozer driver. At least if you pick 03 you’ll do something cool.

@@AbdalRahmanowski totally agree, just bc you want to do something in the Marine corps doesn't mean you'll get it even if your recruiter promises it to you. Trust me I know. That being said combat Engineer is closest to the old assault man course. Train with explosives, train with the MAW, mine hunting, building shit, working with breaches. The whole reason you can't be an assault man is because of the combat Engineers already doing the same thing. (Also you don't have to go through ITB yet but they are working on making combat Engineers go through ITB). My advice wait till you graduate and then see if you still want to join the Marines. Lastly being a grunt is fun until you show up to your unit get hazed, hike a 20k, have libo secured bc of a dumbass, get no sleep, never get to kill anyone and then get out hating the Marine corps with no real job skills. I'm not a grunt these are just my buddies words. Not saying these things aren't fun for some people it's just important to know it's not for everyone. It's important to get advice about the military from people who love the military and hate it not just one or the other bc you don't know who you will be after a 4year contract. The guy who loves it or hates it. And 4 years is a long time to hate it.
