@@mike_pertz thank you sir! I will! We tested a week ago and I passed my CPAT and ladder climb yesterday. They haven’t told us our test scores but I feel like I did very well and our interviews are pass/fail and not graded so the hiring list order is determined by the test. It’s a smaller department so I’m only competing with about 10 guys and there’s 3 spots open for hiring and more to come at the end of the year with people retiring so I feel my chances are good. With these videos help I can go in with confidence and feeling prepared for anything they ask! Can I ask one question? Is there a good time I could ask what Grade i received on my test or where I will be placed on the hiring list? Or should I just leave it be and let it play out because asking won’t change my score and could make me look bad somehow?

its frustrating that I got turned down for two positions for Firefighter when these videos could have changed everything for me. I really appreciate you making these videos cause they are changing the way I approach these interviews. That's what's been killing me making a career position.

Kudos for the video content! Apologies for butting in, I would appreciate your initial thoughts. Have you tried - Rozardner Lucky Interview Reality (just google it)? It is an awesome exclusive product for firefighter interview tips minus the headache. Ive heard some awesome things about it and my GF after a lifetime of fighting got great results with it.

Big thanks to firefighter now on helping me prepare myself for interviewing, and becoming a beginner/rookie full time firefighter. I am 26 and live in a somewhat small town in Arkansas and have been a volunteer outside the main city in the small town for 7 years now. I never really thought about going full time for the city until friends told me from my volunteer dept that I was good at fighting fires and loved helping people and my job at the time was just not for me. I and several of my volunteer firefighters went and tried the cities fire dept feets test to see if I could pass it or not and surprisingly I did decent on it. Then a few weeks later got a call from the dept. for an interview. I watched fire fighter now videos to prepare me for there questions and to improve my knowledge and understanding on bigger depts and how they work. The first interview went good, but a couple months went by and I figured I didn't get the job and was ok with that seeing how there was alot of people applying for it and only a few positions. Finally got a second call back after a few months for a second interview and they asked if I was still interested in the job which of course I was haha. So now I got the job and again want to thank firefighter now for his videos and doing a great job to help us rookies learn some things.

Thank you for this series. Interviews within my current job skill freak me out enough. I'm planning to make the switch between my corporate risk management positions to my city's main fire department. This has truly gotten me prepared and in the right mindset for this position vs what an interview in a corporate level may expect.

i'm 16. i'm planning on training to be a fire fighter, i'm super motivated. at this point, it's my first priority. i have 2 years to prepare for something like this, and i'm totally motivated to do so. i want it all to pay off, not being hired scares me. even so, i've always been one to bottle my emotions. i'm sure i'll handle it well, ill give it everything i can when time comes.

Thank you for posting these videos and especially offering them for free! Quick Question: I recently applied for an entry level FF/EMT position and the application window closed 5 days ago. I have not heard back yet. Is it appropriate to follow up with Human Resources?
@mike_pertz4 жыл бұрын
Hey Reed, I would give it about two weeks before you follow up, but don’t be surprised if it takes a little while to hear back. Every city is different

Great info and so helpful! Do you recommend shaking hands in the beginning as well? Or do you just sit down right away?
@mike_pertz4 жыл бұрын
Nova Glad you found it helpful! Yes I would certainly recommend shaking hands at the beginning. And be sure to address each officer by their title (Chief, Captain, Lieutenant etc) or if you’re unsure of their rank stick with sir or ma’am.

Would a question along the lines of "are there any instances within this interview that made you question if I were an ideal candidate for the position that I could help to clarify now?" be a reasonable question to ask or is there too much of a risk of bringing the focus back to negatives at the end of the interview? Thanks again for providing all of this information to the community!
@mike_pertz4 жыл бұрын
Hey Victor, glad you find them helpful! I personally would stay away from a question like that as it may come off the wrong way (could make you sound desperate) in addition to bringing attention back to the negatives about you.
@victoradam86854 жыл бұрын
@@mike_pertz thought there might be a possibility for that, but wasn't sure. Thank you for taking the time to clarify it for me!

Very helpful series of videos. One is unclear to me though. I am trying to get into the Lexington Fire Academy and I am preparing for the interview. My question is if I score high on the interview and they add that to my written test score (I got a 94 on the test) how will I fare against other candidates who are certified EMTs but didn't score as high as I did?
@mike_pertz4 жыл бұрын
Mateo, good question. Unfortunately there’s no real way to tell as it all depends on the department and how much weight they put on certain things. Either way, with a 94 on the test and a great interview you should do really well! Good luck!

Thank you so much for all your helpful videos 🙏 i have an interview on Tuesday and I was wondering if you had any input on shaking hands during this time. Should I still go for the handshake with the FFs at the panel interview or would that look bad considering the virus and guidelines?
@mike_pertz3 жыл бұрын
Good question, I would still offer to shake hands (unless it’s obvious that they don’t want to) or just ask if everyone is ok with that or not
@reidcarlson76233 жыл бұрын
Is asking what kind of shift schedule they follow a bad question? I feel like asking that might come off like you care too much about having time off and how often you have to work

I have an interview coming up here in the next few weeks, and it has been converted from an in-person interview to an online "one way" interview. Do you have any advice for closing out a recorded video that is going to be watched at a later date by someone that you don't see/get to interact with?

Hey! Love your videos man they are great! I have a question for you. After the interview would it be good to follow up with a email saying "thank you for time........" even after I say it in person after the interview concludes?
@mike_pertz5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I'm glad you find them helpful! It certainly doesn't hurt. I usually recommend at least 1 week before following up after an interview, maybe 2 weeks. It's good to save the "thank you for your time..." as your opening to your 1-2 as the opening to your follow up. Something like, "thank you for your time...just wanted to follow up..." etc.
