I don’t live in the states so I may be wrong in saying this, but it’s definitely a similar situation you’d get here in the UK. I think an element of it is that people are incapable of taking responsibility for their wrongdoings, and heaven forbid if they ever needed to say “sorry”. So, rather than accepting their mistake and rectifying it, they try to shift the blame onto someone else. (e.g. “yeah I know I did this thing, but THEY did a worse thing look” and pointing fingers at the firemen instead) It’s really tragic that people have become like this. It’s not everyone of course, but it’s a high enough percentage for it to be a real problem.

The media and establishment politicians (dems and rinos) have created this narrative that no one is responsible for their actions....unless of course it is someone who goes against THEIR narrative. They make these grand proclamations "my body, my choice" but then backpedal when it is used for something they disagree with. They said to always believe the women who made claims of sexual harassment. They were perfectly OK with destroying someone else's life, with zero proof of wrongdoing, until the claims were against someone they supported. When I was a street cop for a west coast city we ticketed cars parked in red zone fire hydrant spots. Problem was that the fine was less than the cost of parking in one of the lots, so it was cost effective. I ticketed one particular BMW several times over a few months. One day there was a fire and the fire department took out the drivers and passenger side windows and ran the hose through the front seat of the car. I ticketed the vehicle at the fire departments request and I might add, the hose through the mans car was the very last hose removed and that was several hours after the hose was connected. I never saw the car parked there again.

I had to chuckle over cost effective parking comment because you reminded me of when I was in college, the parking lot was like $10 a day for parking, something like that anyway. The ticket for parking without paying was just over double the cost to park, and it wasnt even a guarantee you would get fined. A friend of mine used to see how far he could push the system, he would park like half in a ditch, half in the parking lot in his truck, or half on a median half in a spot for a motorcycle, just ridiculous, and any time he got a fine for not paying or parking improperly, he just paid for it, no problem. I always paid for parking, but my friend made a sport out of never paying for parking.

The building I used to live in had a fire hydrant in front of it. I always shoveled around it thinking the few minutes it would take for firefighters to locate and dig it out could mean the difference between someone living or dying. The last time I shoveled it out was February 17, 2021. That evening, a fire started in the rear of the building. The upper rear apartment and attic sustained significant damage, but the rest of the building was spared. I lived in the lower front and ran a home business there. Fortunately I was able to salvage 95% of my inventory, and personal belongings. That amounted to about 50k. What I did lose was from water damage, not fire. With no insurance, I literally came very close to losing everything. The fire marshal told me without a doubt that having the hydrant clear made a difference regarding how far the fire was able to spread. All those hundreds of times digging out that hydrant over the years, always thinking it could save someone's life. Never once did I consider it could be my own. So yeah, if you have a hydrant near your house, don't park in front of it and do your part to keep it clear in the winter. It could be your life it saves.

My brother is a retired firefighter from Washington, DC. He has personally broken the windows of illegally parked vehicles a dozen times in his 25-year career: for the same reason in the video. He also said when dealing with a house engulfed in flames - and occupants are still in the house - the difference between life and death for the victims can be measured in seconds. He recalled one incident when it took and extra three to five minutes to cut through the security bars of a row-house window to gain access to the burning structure. When he finally got inside, he found four children under the age of 10 all huddled in a corner and holding tight to each other as they WAITED in TERROR for the firefighters to rescue them. Unfortunately, the "security" bars delayed access just long enough that all four children died from smoke inhalation while clinging together. So, if that a-hole, whose vehicle was blocking access to a fire hydrant, thinks his car windows are worth more than the lives and safety of humans - he deserves much worse than the cost of replacing a couple of backseat windows. Additionally, the jerk in the video who claimed the firefighters were abusing their authority, I have just one question: When was the last time YOU risked YOUR life to help save lives and property???
@luciusvorenus94454 жыл бұрын
Additionally two kinks in a hose, as demonstrated by running the supply line over or under the car, reduces water volume by 50%. That's a huge deal.

@@jen30551.... Thank you for your reply. I have not personally been a burn victim. Nevertheless, I have consideration for your injuries and recuperation. My firefighter brother got caught in a backdraft and was nearly burned alive. He spent six months in a Washington, DC burn ward and many months of painful rehab. Rather than retire on disability, he eventually returned to his firefighting career and retired a few years later. He is now 84 years old and suffers each day with a breathing problems from latent issues from having burned lungs.
