Mack I have to say, you do a real service. Even when given a game for free the developer will get your honest thoughts. Not saying I always have the same take on a game you do but you're honest. More creators should follow that model. Game companies have thick skins, they will not stop supporting a creator just because they gave honest feedback.

Great Review Mack. I left one myself for steam. Hopefully it can help others make the decision to purchase or not. Here's what I found. So this review is coming from a Firefighter (North America) so some of my broad strokes may be nitpicks for others. As a whole I think this game is fun. As a sim it does what it does alright, but should be expanded to make it much more real. Pro's - Graphics decent 3/5 - 360 checks are shown which was nice to see. - your squad commands work pretty well. - Rosenbauer Fire trucks are great. - Multiplayer is fun. Cons - Other Firetruck brands would be nice. As you are limited to Rosenbauer. I love HUB myself. - You're an officer but are driving the firetruck. This is normally done by the pump operator and the officer will be in the right seat - No Pump Operators - Unable to increase or decrease hose pressure (typically done over the radio or via hand signals to the pump operator) - Unable to increase or decrease spray patterns, you are just always in a straight stream (As we are told, Right to fight, Left to live) Unfortunately not implemented. - No actual IC (incident commander) you do a quick radio call that you are assuming command. However there's no command board, and you fight the fire instead of assign duties or check with staging, safety and Rit crews - No Staging area or staging officer - No Safety Officer - No RIT team (Rapid Intervention Team) or Firefighter Down Scenarios - No ICS (Incident command system) - No radio calls outside of the first fire dispatch calls. - No Preconnects - Certain missions have ground Ladders that are not not 5 rungs above - When inside a structure there is some smoke but not much. - Unable to use a K saw to certain metal structures like barred windows. - No hazmat fires - No variability in attack lines. We should at least have 1 inch 1/2 and 2 and 1/2 options. - No hydrant kits for tapping a hydrant correctly - No salvage and overhaul operations. - Just fire calls, No MVA's, Medical, False alarms. - Back draft is shown but not flash overs. - Unlimited Air with SCBA and no Pass alarms - No tumbling of atmospheres when water is introduced to an enclosed space - No ability to radio for utility company for disconnect. You only disconnect the house power at the breaker. - No real tactics are shown in the tutorial/training area's - No mission editor - Limited to 3 others. - No Firehouse operations - No Vertical Ventilation options such as cutting holes in roof - No Hydraulic Ventilation or Positive Pressure Ventilation - Havn't seen any Basement operations so far in 8 hours Conclusions: It would be awesome to see if the Devs can add these missing items to further deepen the sim. Although the con list does outnumber the pro's it is enjoyable as a game. If you are looking for a hardcore firefighting simulator, Stay away at this time. If you just want a game to have some fun, than this is a thumbs up from me.

A good sim would be Firefighting Simulator: Horror edition. Make everything that could happen in the house random. Random and sudden deaths. Not a single floating icon. Make it as real life as possible. They'd screw that up in some way anyways though.

There were several game updates and free content drop over the last few months. The X-ray vision can be toggled off before start of mission. The driving section can be skipped after you have completed the mission once.

Well it may be related to my triple screens, but the icons for people, and stuff to do was broken. So when we played it, we had to search like mad! The drawback at the same time was that you got to see the entire cockpit, all I had was the upper part of the steering wheel when driving since I couldn't get the FOV high enough to make it work correctly.

A couple of things here ... #1 : yes, in the real world, firefighters drive for 5 minutes to put out a dumpster fire "in less than a minute" ... #2 : I dont know what your expectations are for a game costing 25 USD ... in any case, they are way too high #3 : This is not the finished product, I count 3 updates/bugfixes in the past 10 days.

It wouldn't take an hour. More like a few minutes. 5 minute response time might be typical for a suburb with lots of traffic and hard to get to.. but I didn't see that in the footage you showed. Our family home was gutted within minutes last year.

I think there is a logic problem here: The game calculates your score based on time versus amount of fires put out (I think). So they would either have to get rid or redo the mission unlock system, because if it was entirely modular and burnable people could basically burn down the whole town before getting a mission done. Or they would have to redesign the entire scope of the game towards something more open world; it's not really open world, you just drive to your missions instead of loading in. So yes, a lot of good points were made in this review! I too would prefer to spawn in the firestation and rush out on emergencies. But the whole way the game is designed is around unlocking missions and vehicles and redoing missions for a higher score. That's a simple design and overall the game looks like some ambitioned but not overly experienced or creative people sat together and designed a game. It is servicable, I think even fun with friends. But if we were to lament the shortcomings of every game, we'd miss out on the fun they have to offer. And it's probably a given that these devs will improve on their game in a sequel or whatever their next project is. I'm not saying Mack isn't right, but some people made a decent enough game here. It seems unfair to criticise it on the lack of features we want when there are enough features in the design to make it fun. It is however underdeveloped and somewhat poorly designed. I just think these devs might do better next time, if we encouraged this effort a little bit more.

Teardown + Rainbow 6 Firefighting. Plan the movements of the firefighters. Scan blueprints of the house to prioritize saving load bearing walls. Use hammers to break down walls for faster access but faster structure damage. Save everyone including the family dog to earn the title of hero.

From the looks of it you had the global illumination feature turned on. That is an experimental feature in the engine version of the unreal engine that the game is using. You should’ve been able to run on the ultra-settings with your setup without the global illumination.

Mechanics that might be there: someone mentioning who remained inside, trapped by the fire, instead of those little markers; people crying for help; need to open way in creative manners, so the firefighter can access blocked areas; pets under risk; structural risk; fire spreading risk; fires on wild areas; massive fires; drought seasons; intoxication in case of CO2 exposition; first aid; and so on. I mean, correct me if I'm wrong, but it would actually make for a cool game. Honestly, I think Skylines does a better job with this than a firefighting simulator.... :(

Reviews like this is why I only trust a select few YT channels for game reviews. So many channels are blatantly obvious in their shilling for games due to being given a free copy as tho they fear a bad review would dry up their future access to games. I did hear you can turnthe icons off, not sure if that also applies to were people are in the house. But i seen other youtubers play it and never noticed the icons of where people are (but maybe they were and i just didn't notice). Good review though, i was looking forward to this keep but reading a few steam reviews and watching some youtubers i'm waiting for a sale. It would been nice if it was more like Emergency call 112 (Notruf 112). You were in a fire station, you had all kinds of vehicles and teams. You could pick on the fly who you wanted to control and the AI would do the rest by itself. You could just stand there and they would complete the emergency. You also didn't know what situation you would get into until you recieved the call. Sadly the game wasn't optimized very well and the commander didn't work at all. Same for the multiplayer, they just gave up on it and never made it a fun experience (when i checked you didn't had any emergencies in multiplayer). Still i had about 24 hours of fun with that one and i will stick to it for fire fighting action it seems.

The only thing i really disagree with is your point about travel times, sometimes, as a volunteer firefighter, you'll have to drive for 30 minutes, just to get stood down, so a 5 min drive to a bin fire is quick in my book.

Mac, you didn't think this is also in America, meaning all these homes are made out of wood here, unlike Europe with brick etc, so there is literally no reason why a house would not collapse after a burn that long. The entire structure would collapse easily after that long. I know there is some fire proofing going on and all, before people post about it, but for the purpose of his test it should have collapsed.
