Guys the fan boys say buy it as there is nothing wrong with the game, I say watch the video and make your own mind up. This was played on 4 different servers with varying numbers of players. All the servers were official ones where I had a 30 ping. My internet is the fastest you can get in the UK, no other games lag. Also this game is super easy mode, I was fully kitted out in under 1 hour by raiding a military base, I have loads of ammo, sniper rifle, mp5, pistol, large backpack, military uniform, helmet and enough food to last a few weeks. So all those that will tell you it's hardcore, forget it. It's the top seller on steam and yet it is bombing badly, the main complaint is lag and I agree 100% then there are all the bugs, way too many to name here. The forums are full of people having a horrible laggy time in the game, they are not telling lies, it's got 67% positive for a reason and that reason is it's a mess. It has huge potential as I said and I do hope in a years time it will be great but at the moment it's terrible.

What the hell is it with this genre?! ARMA II DAYZ MOD proved the concept and yet all these years later not one developer has been able to make a polished version of that concept game. All I even wanted from DayZ standalone was the exact same game with better servers, no hackers and a better inventory system!

Early Access is the death for having a long term fan base who are dedicated to the game. The fact that we now can play an unfinished, unpolished game early on...sometimes YEARS before its finished. means that you'll play said game for lets say 6 months. You get annoyed by the things that arent done well and you eventually drop teh game from your play list of games. I like to think of it like how it was in the early 2000s. When you'd subscribe to certain gaming papers and get a demo disk of multiple games on it. A demo was most of the time a brief, but well polished portion of an upcoming game. It game you a sense of how the game was going to be once released without having an unlimited amount of things to do in it. Nowadays Demos are completely dead, nobody does it. And most of these early access games that hit the main stream, are there for at most a year. It's basically us the consumers saying "we'll play this game thats 50% shitty because we can play it now" Instead of the full game at its max potential. its stupid.

for developers its more because financial reasons to bring out early access. they dont care about giving people a taste of the game such as demos used to be, but rather they allow them to pay for the game early on so the developers can use the money on finishing the work more quickly. Its kind of a win win if u ask me, but i understand that it kinda ruins the game experience.

Yes but thats an issue. Thats why theres fundraisers. Most of these games go out on early access..they play like crap, people get bored of them and once the game is "finished" it player base is gone.

@@Plague_Doc22 well if they do it like arma did, I would say you are right. But as far as I can see it, they try to maintain the fun simply by doing weekly patches. So the gamer can always experience new things. And also the developers listen to the community by taking their feedback and optimise the game to their wishes. I played arma for 7 years and I can still enjoy it. That's the type of game. I think scum will top that with no problem if they don't fuck it up like arma did.

Î know a lot will tell you im just a fanboy... but what this game is trying is truely remarkable. And I feel like most people haven't even tried to scratch the surface of this game and dismissed it as a clone. Yes it has massive permormance issues right now. But MAYBE (if that deters you) keep an eye out for it and buy it in a few months. The devs have already made huge changes in those few days that its out... I already got my moneys worth. Not telling you youll love it. But give it a chance ;) its beautiful. Its definatly not streamlined and its quite complex!

Wow it's almost like whether or not you enjoy The Witcher 3 combat is more subjective than anything. On the technical side of things the combat is good, although I encountered a fair share of bugs which actually forced me to reload to a save 20 minutes earlier. And this happened last weekend.

Yeah refunded this one after an hour. The EKG super detailed stats are just over complicated and you can get along fine just ignoring them. I ran around the least ping server I could find with only had like 10 players in it.. It's just another Rust/Day Z clone with a few details changed and just left a bad taste in my mouth. In a years time the game will probably run smooth but it will just be forgotten by then anyways..

I bought it this morning, have had a great time playing with friends over Discord. You are right about stuff being left on the floor if you are not paying attention, very frustrating. It hasn't been particularly buggy. The server did shut down for a while. I just ran straight for an orange built up area on the map and started scavenging and killing zombies while evading robots. Had a few gun fights with other players. Its been fun, £15 worth of fun? If I'm still playing it next week then yes.

As someone who bought this a few days ago I have to agree. Right now my friends and I are having fun just learning it slowly and looting stuff. I did get into a 1v1 pvp combat earlier today and it wasn't lagging or warping around for me at all. My friends had the same issue with not automatically picking things up but you get used to it. Same with dropping things to do certain actions. It's still better than a super easy hand-holding game tho. But definitely agreed that this could be much better with more work put into it! I had about six of my friends purchase this game and enjoy it. We did not experience lag issues and played the event PvP portion of the game that ran fine. The environment is nice and lends to a real woods /forest feel. You are right, the game is boring due to lack of content. Once your kit up there is nothing to do but hunt players. Granted further development gives us bases, vehicles, and many other game mechanics. There are no doubts it's early access but I had a good experience so far. 3000 hours in Rust, 3500 to 2200 hours in DayZ / Arma mods.

Only bugs ive witnessed is items appearing invincible, thats been fixed though and that character lag only once with one guy. Im on EU servers. Rest is fine, just needs quality of life and content updates, but netcode etc is always welcome but i havent had that issue

When u do a game like this u basicly need to have a test run first heck u need a test run for all games. Disagree with what opinion? He [Mack] basically said its good but has game-breaking bugs. Watch GDC, the main advice they give for early access is to make the game basic but working. Not to release it at all before then. I don't trust the devs as much now. MP should work at least. How can they test combat if you can't bloody hit anybody for all the desync.

I have played 10 hours so far. I don't mind it at all so far and don't regret buying the supporter pack. That being said I don't completely disagree with this review, there is a lot of work that needs to be done, but I have high hopes for this game due to the developers. This is the first early access game I have played in 2 years or so, and that is because I have faith in these developers, they genuinely seem like they care about their project. and I do believe and hope that by the end of the year we will have an amazing game. edit: I will now call trash bags, bin liners from now on

I agree that it’s far to easy to kit up. I spawned, ran 50 yards to the airfield and had a gun and full military kit. That was before I refunded it because it stuttered so much it was unplayable even with a fix I tried auto clearing cache every 5 mins

Fair opinion Mack. I bought the game and have put only a few hours in SP testing it out. There are some framerate issues in SP. The game does hold some great potential but if anyone is in two minds about buying, I would hold fire for the moment. Some bugs fixes and tweaks from the developers could turn this into a great game but it needs work.

They even had KZbinrs promoting its development as it progressed, free marketing and they rewarded those KZbin channels by sticking their names in the end game credits which I thought was a really nice touch. I dunno Mack, I normally agree with you but I think you were a bit too rough on this one. Bought it on day 1, and it was a fucking mess for a few days. But they've been releasing a patch almost every day since release, and it's improved a lot in a very short amount of time. The netcode thing is getting better, and while I agree that it was an oversight to release it without having that polished, they're clearly working on the issue and doing a good job of it. As far as the crafting goes, if you were crafting an axe or a bag in the woods, and you didn't have a bunch of storage space, where exactly would you put the components while you were crafting? I get that it can be tedious looking through stuff on the ground, but it actually does make sense. At least, a hell of a lot more sense than sticking 4 trees worth of wood in your backpack and lugging it wherever like most other survival games. There are some issues with how much space items take up in a pack. I agree about the knuckle duster, especially when a can of soda takes up one slot. The cooking pot should take up less space because anyone who has ever gone backpacking knows you stuff things inside of the pot, so it really shouldn't take up that much space. But those are small issues that I fully expect will get worked out over time, once they get some player feedback. And yeah, the dropping items in your hands is kind of annoying. But really, you couldn't go down the ladder, drop some items to make space, climb back up and pick up the knuckle duster? You *had* to leave it? cmon now. I hate to say it, but I think that you're too eager to be a contrarian sometimes. Yes, the game has a lot of hype, and yes you raised some valid points, but if you had literally logged in just one day after you clearly made this video you would have found the netcode issue to be greatly improved. But too late, you already shit on the game in your video so now you're going to just call everyone that disagrees with you a fanboy and dig your heels in. Is it GOTY? Fuck no. But it's not bad for the low cost, the devs are working hard on it, and it's improving almost every day. All things you could have mentioned in your video and didn't.

Great review, as always. I’ve already bought it, since it was only $20, but every issue you pointed out is bang on point. The thing that attracted me was the metabolism system because I was hoping it could lead to an interesting PvE type pure survival game (with PvP as a side order). Unfortunately it’s not a playable as either PvP or pure survival. I hope the devs work on it.

I think that Rust is the best survival game out right now. It had loads of updates that added more fun things to do in the game such as gambling with scrap, having to find keycards ranging from green to red, red being the card that unlocks the best loot rooms. Please do a revisit of Rust if you have the time. Edit: I just watched your last review of Rust which was over three years ago. I really think that it deserves a revisit. I didn’t even play the game back then and I could barely recognise it from what it looks like now.

Well I mean it is ultimately up to him what he reviews on his channel. I doubt he would leave out at least reasonably well-known games from his favourite genre(if it is indeed his favourite). I mean what he should do is review games that are actually different because let's face it this survival game is basically like all other survival games. Don't even need to review this, plus it's in Early Access. Personally I'd like him to review Exanima but that's also still in development.

Ive not had the same issues as you have had. My gameplay is sometimes laggy but not unplayable. Not sure what ping servers youve joined. The main thing this game has going for it is that in third person you cant see players unless you peak. So YES it has optimization that needs to be done. Which a patch has come out to help quite a bit first week. But I would say you were a bit harsh.

Scum does alot of things right for early on in an EA survival release, but for me the combat is the biggest thing that needs improvement. I also hate the base gameplay loop where 90% of people are just rushing military base right away. I rarely see anyone for PVP outside military bases, its to bad.

Im still trying to sort out resolution has 4k option can't put in 4k though it just either reverts back to top left corner and I've only played like 30 minutes of the game that I was able to get it working in windows mode in 1080p but everytime I exit the game and go onto it again I have to change the resolution settings once again. I get the whole point of early access butat least make the fundementals work

Type -fullscreen into the launch options for the game on steam. I had a similar issue where the resolution wouldn't actually change and this fixed it.

52 hours of playtime Zero problems with desync I know it exists but it seems to only be for some regions. Honestly its the best survival multiplayer game out of the big ones. I have been liking what the devs are doing. They are communicating better than any devs I have tried to interact with.

Another review please? A lot of these problems are gone or improved. The devs listen very well to their community, and there's a lot of patches, so i feel like a fair review can't be said until official release. I just finished a 3 hour session like 10 minutes ago and had a blast! For the record i never said there wasnt lag. It's still there, but nowhere near as intense in this video

I have over 40+ hours and didnt experience any of the issues im playing on a 50 player max server and its not broken. Its just because of the server you are playing on.

Another good review Mack. I myself am enjoying the game but its not because of the game itself, its because I play on a role play server, which I would recommens. It has no kos and everyone has to play and stay in character. Again another great watch and keep up the good work

Admittedly, my gameplay experience has been entirely opposite of yours. I have videos of my streams, entirely unedited. I wouldn't ever recommend this to a single player, it's definitely meant for group play; as you mentioned.

its been said that they are going to change the inventory system, rest easy Mack. They really do need to fix that desync though I had fun going into military bases with my budddy, some are easier than others. We went into one yesterday and there was TONS of puppets and we pissed off all the mechs so they were shoot on sight, I was just stuck between 4 of them all pissed off, no matter which way I went I was getting shot at or mauled by puppets. I died 3 times before I finally got my shit off my body and got the fuck out of there. Was pretty damn fun

People are paying to beta test unfinished games that usually stay broken, which used to be free or an actual payed position within the gaming industry. Then the jipped beta testers get mad when someone tells them they've been ripped off. Sad state of affairs the industry is in. Game looks completely broken. I do like the way the metabolism system looks though, so can't quite agree with you there. Looks like what they have in dayz standalone, and in a *survival* game eating and keeping your body alive is among the most important things in there. If there's just a constant hunt for food, even though you just ate 54 apple pies it takes all the fun out of it for me at least. Health /hunger /thirst ping-pong is just bad gamedesign. That said; if the rest of the game is complete garbage it doesn't help much to have a good metabolism system.

This game for £15 is well worth it imo i havent played with friends but online have had a few minor bugs but is very much playable and enjoyable.

Personally I'm enjoying the game, have had some issues with lag and other bugs but not many. I'd say if you want more content and bug fixes, wait a couple months for some heavy updates
