Just got a red one this week. I also play bass in church as well as guitar. Want you to know that the finish issue in the cutaway must have been fixed. The finish is beautiful. I had to secure the EBO type bass pickup. They forgot to put the rubber spacer behind the pickup. Oiled the neck, replaced the tuning keys with locking one. Frets are fantastic and never caught on the microfiber cloth that I ran over them. Heavy as hell!

I just received mine today. Fit and finish are almost perfect. Both guitar and bass sound amazing. The intonation in both necks are spot on. Pickups sound great. Only thing it really needs is some new strings. Very pleased with this instrument 🎸

I got one about a year ago. I couldn't comfortably play the bass on the lower frets because the tuning keys for the 6 string were completely in the way. I didn't even take the protective plastic off before I sold it.

Good review! That's something I might be tempted to buy just so I could make a cover video of Xanadu, playing Geddy's guitar parts as well as bass. I could POSSIBLY see it getting some stage use, but it would really depend on the situation, and there would really have to be a NEED for it. When I've been the bassist in a band (which I usually am), nobody ever asked me to double on guitar, and when I've played guitar in a band there was already a bass player, and you don't need two. So, unless you play in a power trio, this thing is beyond a "niche" instrument, but I still want one. 😀 One observation, though; it looks like the bass strings are misaligned. The E string looks like it's too far into the fretboard, while the G string seems to be hanging on for dear life.

Great video and I appreciate how you took the time to time stamp different sections. Thank you. I'm sorry if I missed it, are you playing through an amp or DAW? I'm considering one of these, but I struggle with the amp side. Good ideas on the stereo jack and a/b pedal. That would get you the best sound from each neck out to separate amps. Thanks again.

I’m seriously considering this guitar. I play in a band in which I sometimes play rhythm and some solo stuff.
@davidraymer397 Жыл бұрын
I think it could be very useful at church, where you might be expected to switch from guitar to bass sometimes, without having to change guitars. I also think it would be great for recording, where I constantly have to switch back and forth between instruments, this would be much easier, just flip a switch (I'd replace that 3 way switch with a 2 way - problem solved).

I'm glad they used an actual sidewinder design for the EB-0 pickup instead of just making a really big regular humbucker. Very cool. The super low impedance of it is just like the Epiphone EB-0 sidewinder pickups, so you're reading is correct. I'm not sure, but I think they use thicker wire for the windings and fewer windings, and that's why the impedance is so low, and I think they do it so that they can get close to the EB-0 tone without being an excessively loud pickup that is 5x louder than the bridge pickup.

Hi Keith I Would love to see you do a wiring upgrade from say 920D Custom or some other company that specializes in wiring. You may have to contact customer service to see if they have double neck wiring available or do you just order a base kit and a SG kit and buy an extra switch. So many questions! Anyway I look forward to seeing what you end up doing to that double neck. Typical Firefly though being that the wood is good and the rest is meh ok but not great. I think that guitar deserves to be made great!

The 6 string has a huge foundation thanks to that enormous body. Bass sounds good too. But having the bass on the bottom would make a bit more sense to me. Hate reaching way down for those tiny guitar strings. Whereas with the bass you can just be Nikki Sixx. Did you play this instrument on that middle jazzy section? I'd replace that 3 way switch with a 2 way switch since you'd never have a reason to use both.

I'm considering (again) acquiring a 4/6 haha... This looks cool, sounds quite well, and in my band for some long songs it would fit perfectly (we have some Boris influences indeed haha). So, the first question is: will the bass neck admit 65-85-105-130 to tune it in BEAD? I need that low B. And the second... Anybody knows if this is available (or will be) in Europe? Thank you! PD: 4:30 I do that in my double guitar 12/6, I learned it from All Alone by Mad Season... So cool and fun
@TheTapeFarm Жыл бұрын
Not sure about the BEAD tuning. You’ll need to recut the nut for sure. Not sure if that would be more tension on the neck or not. As far Europe goes you’ll have to find one on eBay or reverb. To my knowledge GuitarsGarden.com does not ship outside the US.
@nextdistortion Жыл бұрын
@@TheTapeFarm Yeah, I did the same with a 4 string Ibanez SR and had to modifiy the nut, but then with the B tuning it feels ok to me. The problem appears if you want to go back to E I guess, but still have the EAD strings haha I'll search this instrument in pages like those then, and hope could buy one at some point. What amp you should recommend to use with this guitar?
@TheTapeFarm Жыл бұрын
The amp has less to do with the guitar and more with what style you’re playing. I’m rewiring this guitar to have two separate outputs to use to different amps. You could also use and A/B foot switch to switch between two different amps. But if you were looking for something that would work for both guitar and bass, a Fender Bassman would work great as well as a Marshall … I think they were called Super Bass. Both rigs would be using 15inch speakers. But I would choose the two amp solution for this particular guitar.
