The crew of the Serenity are a family. A dysfunctional one; but a family never the less, and I think that's one of the reasons people love them so much and find them so relatable.

This is my family. Its small and broken. But, still good. 😊

"It'll still be there... waiting..." is one of my favorite lines from the show. Shame we don't get more of Book and River being pals.

"Juuuuust keep walkin', preacher-man." Best line of the whole episode!!

That's how you write an episode. Take a story that fits within the established expectations of the show and subvert them. Touch and advance each character's arc or backstory. Write sparkling dialogue and a hilarious hit song. Use the upbeat humor of the episode to instantly raise the stakes and turn on a dime. Leave everyone thoughtful and slightly melancholy with the downtempo reprise of the song. Damn.

Hannah's grin reminds me a lot of Kaylee's. Holds nothing back, and top-filled with joy.

The crew of Serenity didn't bring items on board they were there to buy. That was a ruse, that they came to buy mud/clay/ceramics. They were after smuggled merchandise that was buried so the Prods wouldn't find it. Kaylee has this sweet disposition, but she can be sarcastic at times.

"The Hero of Canton!" Such a fun episode, and I'm glad you got the "symbols" aspect of this story.

Great reaction once again. This is my favorite episode. Well, besides the next episode....and the one after that....and ... and.... At any rate, my favorite part of this reaction occurs at timestamp 10:03 ... when the song starts and you both are gaping at the screen with your mouths wide open in shock.

For me Jaynestown is about belief and how someone's need to believe can even blind them from the truth. Perhaps it was metaphoric that Stitch lost an eye due to his belief in how partners should watch each others backs. You can find this belief theme with every scene / character interaction where someone with a preconceived belief clashes with someone else with an opposing believe. Jayne gets some important character growth in this one. He loved the town's attention but at the end he had to face the fact that he didn't deserve the love from the mudders. We even get to see some character growth from Fess Higgins who (thanks to Inara) learns to believe in himself and not in his father.

“Why ‘Not with Kaylee’?” Because the vibe that Mal’s and Kaylee’s relationship gives off is that of father and daughter. Simon doesn’t want Mal to think he’s taking advantage of Kaylee. Simon is very familiar with the story of the traveling salesman and the farmer’s daughter, and he is well aware of how proficient this particular farmer is with his gun.

You can see if people only caught one or two episodes of the show when it was on how they probably wouldn't care for it, because they wouldn't get a chance to see the characters develop. FOX kept moving the show around to different days and then playing the episodes out of order. It never had a chance to find an audience until after it got cancelled.

Love the show especially how you can get any two characters and make a story arc with them or side plot. Wish we saw more River and Shepard together.

If you kill the leader of the town on his property, surrounded by his guards... you're going to die pretty much immediately. It's not a matter of saving bullets. 🤦🏻♂️

It's ironic that stitch is a better fit for mal's crew than Jayne. He had all of jayne's qualities but also lived by a code of honor like mal does.

I've seen this show a million times, and never drew the connection of each storyline being about symbols. Jayne as a symbol, the bible as a symbol, those are obvious. But never thought about laying with a woman as a symbol for manhood.

8:38 as a devout, evangelical Christian, what she said didn’t bother me as much as how Book responded. The one specific example River gives is easily explained. The Bible says “kinds” not “species”. So for example, what kind of animal is a lion? A cat. So two serval cats arguably could cover all felines - rapid speciation is very compatible with a non evolutionary interpretation of Genesis. I’m always looking for people who question scripture because if I’m wrong about what I believe, I want to know it. In 47 years of walking this earth, I’ve yet to find a fundamental objection to Christianity that I couldn’t find the answer to.

The 'fix the bible' argument has been going on forever but it came back into fashion with the U.S. socialist movements during the 1900's. Thanks for all the entertaining shows.

Hello!, I have a huge request. I just watched one of the best movies Ive ever seen called " the iron claw", it was released several months ago, its a drama centered around a true life story of a pro wrestling family "the von erics" from the 1980's in texas USA. you do NOT have to be a sports fan or wrestling fan to love this movie!, its about family relationships, it will blow your mind! please put it on your list of movies! THANKS!!

The Bible's broken? "I wonder how many people were pissed off about that?" Hopefully zero. I go to church every Sunday,. I play in the band there. I've read the Bible. First, it's a TV show! Second, the Bible does have some contradictions and confusion in it. Third, River is not obligated to believe in the Bible... or God. It doesn't work that way. Free will and all that. I thought Shepherd's explanation was nice and concise. Perfect. Mal is the lead in this show. And he doesn't believe in God. I'm not saying by his actions, necessarily. But he has discussions with Shepherd that clearly show he doesn't believe in God.
@ulrichs306110 ай бұрын
In the beginning you can see him kissing his cross during a battle - he did believe in God but lost his faith because of how the war ended.
@lonnieeastin640110 ай бұрын
I guess I'd say that it's there are no atheists in a foxhole thing. But he definitely doesn't believe after that and gives Shepherd a hard time about it. "Shepherd, sermons make me sleepy."
@isaackellogg349310 ай бұрын
In “The Message,” there’s a character who describes Mal’s inspirational speeches as “homilies.” Mal’s faith was not limited to the foxhole.
