Do they chip like most painted beads do, after half a day fishing?

Sticks and Stones will break dem bones... but did you get a hernia lifting them from the mail box? :o} Chimo, you do awesome reviews Darren, kudos. I like the looks of them, all those colors reminded me of the candy dots that came on a roll of paper. (all roads lead to food with me it seems, can't stop eating olives now!) Glad you tried them on hooks other than Firehole's. Seeing it seems to be zug bug weekend I don't mind the largest size fitting an #8. That's my favorite size for them, probably on an a 3906B with a bead. You should do a Zug video, your take on flies is always tasty. Davie's technique on the wingcase was cool, I've tied them like McFly did. Dyed wood duck never produced for me, only natural mallard. Ruben Martin tied one that was the best I've seen, imho, nice and fat football shaped. I think they resemble an iso nymph with those 3 tails and that contrasting "hotspot" of a wing case, like the nymph's "racing stripe". I just like that ZB. Cheers

Chimo Joe. lol, no, but I had forgotten I bought them. The presale was quite a few months ago. I'm happy to hear that the olives are working out. I cleaned out my fridge, even finished the picked pearl onions. I'm guilty for often getting one of every color, but you never know when they might come in handy. The 3906B is tricky to get a bead on. You might be able to use the metallics, but the mattes are a no-go for that hook bend. I tried some #10 and it's too tight. If they get the slotted line up and running it should help with that. I gave Shawn a hard time about the Zug Bug and suggested I should post one as well. :) I'll have to tie one someday soon i suppose. Cheers

@@PiscatorFlies Oh well, guess I"ll have to go smaller, or just use wire. The Mustad you showed said Sproat, what size and model was it? Thanks for the heads up.

In the video I used an S60-3399A size 8 with a 4.00 mm bead. I think the S82-3906B has a tight bend. I tried a number 10 with 3.5mm and 4.0mm and would need to bend the hook to get the bead on. I love the 3906B for nymphs and its a shame they don't have a little more open bend for beads. Fingers crossed for slotted sooner rather than later. Cheers

@@PiscatorFlies I just loss my partial reply! Any way maybe it's the wire thickness. I thought 3399 was the same as 3366 except for the down or straight eye. I started using those hooks for tying because I had lots from bait fishing. I started getting 3906 and the "B" for wets and nymphs. Those were the old (30 - 40 years ago?) hooks. Before Accu point and Signature. 3366 and 3399 were standard wire I thought. The "S" 3399 is 2x, maybe the 3399A is 1x - wire. The S80 S82 are 3x strong, if that has anything to do with wire thickness... maybe. Well that's why they made slotted beads, too many waco hook designations. Yeah I'll keep fingers crossed... eyes too xo) thanks Prof!

Yes, that sounds about right with the wire. I have an old series of streamer hooks, 3907 A, B and C with C being the thickest. You're right about the bends being the same on the 3399A and 3906B. The thicker wire plays a part in the bead not going on smoothly. I might have more luck with some of the smaller sizes though. Cheers!

Do they work on jig hooks?
@PiscatorFlies5 жыл бұрын
Jody, yes, they'll work on 60 dergree jig hooks. I don't know how well they will fit on 90 degree hooks though. I think they may have a slotted version down the road for that purpose though. Cheers
