This made me so happy to see a modern video reviewing this classic game. It’s an absolute masterpiece and a game that many who have come into board gaming in the past 5 years haven’t had a chance to experience. It’s a shame it’s fairly difficult to find, even the reprint.

You're correct! It's sad _so_ many old games like this just get buried in the piles of the overproduced kickstarter games of new. Glad you enjoyed the video! You should enjoy my channel because I'm entirely focused on lesser-known and forgotten board games like this. :) :)

That's awesome! One thing I love about posting new episodes is hearing from fellow gamers who appreciate the same games I do. It seems like everyone is soooo obsessed with the latest and greatest stuff, while I am the complete opposite! It's nice to know there are still lots of us OG gamers out there who "get it." :)

Seems like a lot of people have been saying similar things... either it's been on their shelf of shame or they've always wanted to try it. I say go for it!! Very versatile game for all types of gamers & styles.

Glad you enjoyed! This is one of those games that just works. I don’t know why it seems to get pushed to the back of the shelf. Even with me, we overlook it and forget about it sometimes. It’s gorgeous! Hopefully you get to try it sometime soon!

Firenze is a masterpiece. Can't remember what got me to check it out but it was even better than I anticipated. Thanks for reminding me of another game that needs to put in an appearance at game night. I didn't even realize it was from the same genius as Hansa Teutonica. Andreas Stedding is rapidly becoming a favorite designer. Also saw the review of Kogge, that looks great also. Right now I vwould say Firenze is my favorite Andreas Stedding game but I would like to do more exploring of Hansa Teutonica which holds a special place in my heart because of the SU&SD skit at the end of the review. I like Patrician as well alrhough I have yet to play it. It's just such a neat idea.

That's awesome you know and love Firenze too! Steding is great. He's probably one of the top 5 most underrated game designers in my opinion. I have played many of his games, and Firenze is one of my favorites. Obviously Hansa Teutonica is amazing, and that game is my favorite game ever, so it's hard to beat that one (I know exactly the SUSD skit you're referring to haha). But I do like a lot of his games. One I did _not_ care for is Norenberc. In my opinion, that one is not worth your time. It looks really cool, but the gameplay felt very shallow and uninteresting to me. Maybe I missed something, but it just didn't grab me like his other games. Plus the Norenberc scoring is completely random and makes no sense haha. Thanks again for all the comments!

This looks beautiful! Looks like the tower building might be somewhat similar to Ticket To Ride where people might take your routes before you can? I have never heard of Firenze but I’m loving the look of it! Great video as always!

Actually, I had never thought of comparing Firenze to TTR, but that's a great observation! It's a _much_ different game, so I wouldn't compare the games whatsoever, but now that you mention it, that looming tension of someone possibly taking your tower space _does_ feel like the TTR tension of someone beating you to claim a route. Interesting thought! I'd say Firenze is a step up in complexity from TTR, but it's still what I would consider "gateway" level in complexity. However, I would argue there is _much_ more strategic depth with Firenze. Thanks for the comment!

I prefer 4 player, but 2-4 is all good with me. Firenze is my favorite Andreas Steding game, Norenberc would be the other game of his I liked. My favorite tower building game is Porta Nigra.

Yes, I prefer 4 as well. So tense and tight! That’s awesome this is your favorite Steding! It’s probably my #3 (I still like Hansa Teutonica best and then Kogge is 2nd). Good call on Porta Nigra, too. That’s a great choice! I actually played Norenberc in hopes of featuring it here, but sadly after 2 plays it didn’t excite me too much 😢 I didn’t like all the random endgame scoring. Not a bad game, just not my fav. I would play it again!

Yes, sadly it's out of print. Check eBay or the GeekMarket on Board Game Geek. I don't know if you'll be able to find a new copy, but there are a few used copies floating around out there. Keep your eyes open! The Pegasus Spiele edition is better than the Quined Games edition (Quined uses symbols, Pegasus uses text).
