OK Rick, it is now verified. You are tougher than a 2x6. I was worried there for a while that those three forms would be a deal breaker on the house, but you did it! Good job! I hope you get it closed in before winter.
@ClassicTruckRescueАй бұрын
You mean I'm too stubborn to let a 2x6 beat me? I'll copy and paste what I just told another Viewer about the move-in date John. We're shooting for a Spring Move-in. I've got Jamie hooked up with the house garage complete with slab floor and working garage door opener. My "RoadHouse Garage" is the priority right now. Every phase of this costs money and I need a spot to make some.

Great job getting those forms out Rick that battery powered chainsaw was worth its weight in gold on that job!! I remember when I used to bang things out like KK did and my hands hate me for it these days!!! The garage sitting on its foundation is amazing ,can’t wait to see you in there working on something!!! It’s going to be glorious!!! You got a good rhythm down on taking care of the animals too it’s so great seeing them going to get fed when you’re making your way over to them!!! Say hi 👋 to Jamie and the Emmerett crew and I’ll see you in the next one!!!

One thing you learn early when forming concrete. whenever you're making "box outs" (making openings in concrete walls/slabs), never use plywood for the center piece. Reason being, it VERY difficult to split plywood while trying to remove it after it's cast into the wall/slab. Splitting that center piece allows the sides to be driven away from the concrete. In your case, a 1X6 on the bottom would have been much easier to drive a pryer under it and split it by lifting the pryer. That concrete was REALLY wet so I'm sure the wood swelled and got REALLY TIGHT between the concrete sides. So, now you learned a couple of "Bono's" related to concrete. Not so wet concrete, solid wood (as thin as possible) for "block-outs". Also, might have been better if the bottom board in your trough went UNDER the sides so it wouldn't tighten the sides if it swelled. The sides would have pried "up" to come off the bottom then split the bottom piece. When you build the forms, you need to think about how they will "strip" after the concrete is dry. ;o)

If only there was a way to tap into the experience of my Viewers BEFORE I do a job I don't know anything about. I do learn a lot from you guys when I make mistakes though. Always goes easier the second time. Thanks pappabob.

Hey Rick next time you put some form in for concrete like you did it will be much much easier if you spray the side of the wood with some either form oil or you can mix up some diesel fuel, oil, and some tranny oil mix it up and spray the forms!!! I promise you if you spray the forms after you build them forms up and let it sit until you are ready to pour the concrete and then spray write before you pour giving it a second coat I promise you it will be much easier to remove them for sure!!!! The first coating will get sucked into the wood and then the second coat will definitely help lube the forms up for much easier removal!!! Just thought I’d let you know Incase you ever have to do it again and it will take a 1/4 of the time to remove your forms next time!!!!
