Insurance companies canceled their policies after years of telling Newsom there had been no mitigation done to reduce the impact of fires. They were not going to leave. Arrogant Newsom put in regulations that caused them to leave and he would not allow premium increases. How can you ask a business to stay when they know they will continue to lose billions. My fiancée is a physician at Cedar Sinai ~5 miles or less away and can see the flames as well as the emergency vehicles setting up the fallback positions. She has taken care of many victims of the fire and smoke, both firefighters and residents. Every day she leaves work and calls me to unload and cry from her patient's pain and suffering. Note that we are from the east coast. My heart and prayers go out to all of the victims and emergency service personnel, as well as to those who open up their homes and hearts to them.

Not everyone, in fact most, of the people affected by the fires are not rich celebrities, they’re just regular people who have to work for a living and don’t earn millions of dollars for their labor. They’ve lost everything they own, and many will not be able to recover. They only did that because California passed legislation that won’t allow them to insure more housing because the rates don’t reflect the increase in housing prices. This isn’t a “boo-hoo” for them. If James Woods ever reads these comments, I wanna say I have been there. I've lost everything to a natural disaster while living in New Orleans during Katrina. I worked in entertainment too. I lost everything I built in my life, connections got eschewed, people died, work was unattainable, home destroyed, NEIGHBORHOOD and CITY destroyed. All I could do was help other people clean up and rebuild. As you're showering with bottled water you'll eventually learn that it isn't about your material possessions or creature comforts. Its about your family and the people in your life, that's all that matters.

I live in an area near a couple of the fires. My brother is a battalion chief for Los Angeles county and he had to respond to the Eaton fire in Altadena. Pacific Palisades was a beautiful area. It’s a wealthy area as well. If you see the destruction in pacific palisades it looks like a bomb was dropped. I’m 52 years old and was a Leo. I have also lived in California for my entire life. My dad was a captain for Los Angeles county as well. When my dad was working he only got called in to work at a fire once over his 30+ years on the department. My brother has been to countless fires. During the course of his career the fires have gotten worse. The Woosley fire was a hard fire for my brother. He said that the fire was so out of control when he got there that they couldn’t even move into structure protection mode. He said the only reason the woosley canyon fire was able to be contained was because it reached the ocean. The pacific palisades fire started in pacific palisades which is not near the ocean but that’s where it went and it burned down several houses in Malibu which were on the beach. This is catastrophic. The Los Angeles city firefighters responded to the pacific palisades fire and 9 out of 10 fire hydrants had no water. Fire hydrants are always supposed to have water and it’s highly pressurized. The fire department has something called a 4 way and that’s what they attach to the water. It has a 4” section of house that goes from the hydrant to the fire engine. Firefighters use 2” hoses so the water enters the fire engine and then it’s pressure is lowered so the firefighters can advance the line. Since the hydrants were dry the fire engines only have the small amount of water that is in the fire engine. Gavin Newsome intentionally stopped water from making it to the southern part of the state. He actually sent extra water into the ocean. Newsome also blew up a few damns which is something else that makes it impossible for water to get to where people need it. Karen Bass hired a woman and is paying her over $700.000 a year to make sure that all the fire hydrants in the city of Los Angeles are working properly. Obviously that woman who is extremely overpaid didn’t do her job. The person who had the job previously made less than half of what this current woman makes. There is a lot of corruption with these fires.

One feels for the people of California despite their support for California's policies that caused much of this disaster. They might receive the same help the people in Maui and North Carolina did from the federal government. It was $750 a person to build back their lives after losing everything. One hopes Newsome accepts the help from other governors like De Santis who have experience in dealing with disasters. The people in NC couldn't depend on FEMA for help. It was private citizens and organizations that helped despite often being blocked by the US government. The people in California will not only have to contend with FEMA, but also the bloated California bureaucracy and government.

By the way, my family lived at the observatory on top of Mt. Wilson starting before WWI. We’re livid that LA County and Newsom just caused our insurance to surely jump AGAIN like crazy or get cancelled outright! So our home values have just fallen too!
