As such... in case you forgot, the One source is a well of energy divided into two halves, Saidar and Saidin. Oh wait, you read each book 6 times? Anyway, Saidar can be channeled by women while Saidin is channeled by men. Oh, you've seriously memorized this to the point that you will be uttering it in your grave? Great review! I honestly can't wait to get back into this action-packed series because I am an action junkie and I absolutely loved Rage of Dragons. I'm really happy about what you called out at the end with Tau and his power up from the first book because it was 100% justified within the universe and absolutely explained how he did it. I don't understand how anybody can honestly make that statement about the book unless they either didn't understand what was happening or they didn't read it.
@LittleLionHaw4 жыл бұрын
**Spoilers** I personally didn't have an issue with how quickly Tau "powered up", but I can see why someone might. Tau's biggest jump in terms of sheer power comes from his "training" in Isihogo; the book makes reference to this, saying his neverending deaths to the demons instilled in him an instinctual sense, almost like he has eyes in the back of his head at times. The thing is, it is never explicitly defined how fighting demons in Isihogo as a spirit would lead to physical advantages in the real world. I did have a theory that his constant trips back and forth led to Tau being imbued with some of the Goddess's power, but then I realised it couldn't be that because to draw power in Isihogo and die means death IRL. For me, the raw survival instincts that Tau developed in Isihogo is enough to believe his jump in power. BAD. ASS.
@alexnieves4 жыл бұрын
@@LittleLionHaw I just always accepted it for being a montage of basically fighting against unwinnable odds and since he trained against literal demons that were always going to eventually kill him, he trained hard enough to last as long as possible so that by the time he's actually facing people it's kind of a joke to him. I much prefer the montage approach to that training segment rather than Evan spending chapters just describing how many times he went back there because it was a lot.
@JashanaC4 жыл бұрын
Or some of us simply were already irritated with Tau as a character with his "most skilled ever because he wants it more than anyone else" so when it got to that power up point, we were already over it. That was my experience anyway. I completely understood how he did the level-up stuff and I read that bit thoroughly for sure (to ensure I understood what was happening). I just already was annoyed, and felt like that bit was a bit rushed compared to the ceaseless regular sword fighting training we had seen prior. I'm not incorrect in stating that, it was simply my experience with the book. Happy for anyone who had a more positive reading experience, but it's not fair to say that I need to choose my words carefully simply because I had a different opinion based on my experience. 🤷🏻♀️
@alexnieves4 жыл бұрын
@@JashanaC I can definitely understand the frustration with Tau, I think I even mentioned that in a comment on your review. That seems separate to Daniels point though. I actually love it when a book has a genuine section that is like “here’s a summary of book 1”. But like, separate from the actual story. Before the prologues and stuff. As someone who reads a ton of things and has a terrible memory for details, it’s incredibly helpful when a book has a “before you read” section. But I totally understand your criticism about weaving it into the text. That can be kind of annoying. I think some authors don’t like the idea of just placing a synopsis in front of the opening.

I was so thankful for the recap🙏 I hadn’t read the first book for the better part of a year, and getting the brief recap helped get me back into the swing of things. I had several issues with the first book and power scaling alongside the main character were my main ones. I do think that Evan Winter can win me over, but based on your pretty detailed review I’m not sure it would be better or not without reading it myself, just hearing it though it’s mostly the same level and I’m terrified that it might take a dip to the worse. I enjoyed the review nonetheless and you got yourself a new subscriber. I do however have to disagree with the gatekeeping bit at the end there, telling people how things that are related to expressing opinions and entertainment mediums are supposed to be done is never a good thing in my humble opinion.
@Dajackal074 жыл бұрын
That wasn’t gate keeping though... He was correcting a factually inaccurate description of how the character gained their power.
@sa89514 жыл бұрын
Stratford Upon Anon I’ll respectfully disagree as it technically is when you try to tell people how they should do stuff, for example, how they should use different words to describe it. People perceive things differently, no one way is correct in anything.
@sa89514 жыл бұрын
Dragon50275 To that I would agree. Dictating what can be said and what can’t be said about something is why I called it gatekeeping, as no one should dictate that or so I believe, you can wholeheartedly engage in a discussion if you disagree with someone’s opinion but not invalidate it because a word used in it doesn’t match yours about the same exact topic. Discussions would actually be fantastic and I hope all parties leave it satisfied. That’s a good point. He provided very good criticism on his own, why he thought to include that bit might’ve been something that personally triggered him enough to say it, I don’t agree with dictation of anything, especially when it comes to a series you enjoy that others might not enjoy as much, so it most likely triggered me as well.

It is possibly a failure of me as a reader, but I really didn't care for the first book in this series. de gustibus non est disputandum and all that, but I do think there were flaws -- very serious ones -- in the world building, the ridiculous power creep Daniel seemed to be defending annoyed me and so on. I think I rated it three stars on GR, and considered that a mite generous. Quite frankly I even found the fight scenes became repetitive after a while, and increasingly implausible. Can't think of another book I've read that Daniel has reviewed where my opinion differs so much from his. Guess it was going to happen at some point. 🤔

I'm not entirely sure how you having disliking something (especially considering how subjective literature is) would count as a failure of you. I didn't make those specific criticisms in my review so I know you aren't talking about my video but it still came across as a bit elitest. Essentially you are telling your audience that you (& Merphy) are the only trustworthy reviewers. Also, that jab where you imply that the rest of us "skim read" just felt condescending. I understand you were trying to correct the spread of misinformation but I don't think it's your place to "police" other reviews.
@DanielGreeneReviews4 жыл бұрын
That is by no means what I was doing at all. There are people who flat out say they skim read and I even say that is okay. If you let your audience know that’s what you’re doing I have no problem with it. I also don’t think Merph and I are the only trust worthy reviewers. I would say they are MANY better than me who need bigger audiences. I as politely and constructively as I possibly could am saying I’d advise people to watch their phrasing as much as possible because it can lead to misconceptions about books spreading. I was as tactful on a piece of advice as I could be. If you don’t like it in this review, do you think it should be it’s own separate video? Cause that seems way more problematic where I’m bringing a ton of focus on people doing this instead of just a “hey here’s a moment of my thoughts”. I am not trying to be condescending. Hell I have made that exact mistake. I am trying to give careful advice from my own experience and advice people to avoid misrepresenting books.

Also, to hint heavily that if you don't agree with my opinion you must have skim read is insulting, and that's basically what he did here. That is a way for Daniel to damage other booktubers and make it sound like only he and people that agree with him are valid. Daniel has no way of knowing why those other booktubers came to that conclusion, because it's an opinion. For all we know he may have skim read the book. She is completely right to call Daniel out on this and to call it for what it is, gatekeeping. Having a varied set of views on a book is a healthy and good thing. People need to be able to make an informed decision and that doesn't come from hearing the same opinions over and over. Take licanius. Daniel and several others really were negative on that book. However, some other booktubers talk about how amazing it is. A reviewer I highly trust gave it 5/5 stars and says it's one of the best series. Had I listened to Daniel I would not have read it. However, I read it and think it's an amazing series, and disagree with many of his criticisms. That's fine. Those are his opinion, but the author managed to convince me of details that Daniel was not convinced of. Things felt earned to me while Daniel said they were not.

I’m about to start book 1 today. Very excited. Sounds like the main character is kinda like Kratos from god of war. Am I right?

I suspect this is my own ignorance around the publishing industry but how did you get a review copy in August 2020 and yet my pre-order isn't set to dispatch until Summer 2021. Why such a long delay if the book is finished?

Hmmmm i hear the title but not once is any kind of dragon mentioned 🤔. Is there dragons in the book series. If so ill give it a read
@lukefrayling67924 жыл бұрын
Yes there were dragons in the first book, but I wouldn't say they're the most important plot point. Rather "Rage of Dragons" is a bit more of a metaphor.

Hey Daniel, new to the channel here and love what I’ve seen so far. I was curious if you offer critique services ? I’m an aspiring author and am always looking for well informed feedback!
