I think that a firesong and sunspeaker commander deck seems absolutely AWESOME! honestly I have never played commander, but I am thinking of starting to do so thanks to you and your amazing deckbuilds. I just find it cool that you always have access to a creature of your own choice(the commander). It just opens up so many new possibilities for decks f.ex. making your whole deck based around that one creature, like this deck, to pull off some really cool things which you can not do in a normal magic game. I love it already!

I'm glad we are getting you excited for commander. If you like always having access to something that helps your strategy then I'd also check out Partner commanders ... OMG 2 extra cards in hand!?!?!?! So good. Also consider commanders that cost less mana. This general might frustrate people because if their whole deck is built around having it out, then he dies a few times that's a lot of mana to get going again.

Okay I was confused at first but now I get it. For everyone else who is also confused about why Firesong and Sunspeaker makes Lightning Helix deal 9 and heal 6, here it is: FS&S's first ability is a static effect not a triggered effect, so it adds the "Lifelink" keyword to every red burn spell you cast. Thus, with FS&S out in the field, Lightning Helix would read: Lifelink Lightning Helix does 3 damage to any target and you gain 3 life. Because Helix is also a white spell, when you cast it FS&S's second ability triggers twice; once for its own effect and another time for the Lifelink keyword it now has (yes, these effects stack as the rules identify Lifelink as something separate from text that dictates you gain life. Same as with Armadillo Cloak and other auras with Lifelink). So, in short, every Red and White burn spell that also states that you gain life works similarly. For example: Warleader's Helix deals 4 and gains you 4, so you would deal 4 from its own effect, then gain 4 for the Lifelink, then deal 3 from FS&S's second ability triggering because of the Lifelink keyword has been added to its rule text, and finally deal another 3 from FS&S's second ability triggering because of the original life gain text in Warleader's Helix. Buy-a-box promos with altered art is great, but exlusive cards are just not a good idea. Not everyone can spend the cash for a whole box to get one card, and the people who can also know they can get away with overcharging for it, since supply is relatively low.

In this situation we have a good price balance. I don't think commanders need to be in packs as long as the availability is there. Commander players should use the secondary market to get their commanders. If you want a Muldrotha then players should shell out the $7 and buy one NOT crack packs until one is pulled. F&S are also sitting at $7. Which feels OK to me. I hope the free market will make F&S cost what they are worth my LGS did not charge any more for this box than ones in the past and I REALLY hope that your LGS isn't trying to gouge you when WOTC gives them a cool promo to drum up hype. I think in this specific situation WOTC hit the supply right on to have a card that's not cheap but also not prohibitively expensive.

My situation might be different to yours, but most cards I build with are from pre-cons or pre-release. I have a couple of decks I've started buying singles for here and there but 7 dollar cards are too pricey for me. This particular card was my most looked forward to from the leaks, and I was really hoping to open it at pre-release. To find out that this was not even a possibility was a real let down.

@Jumbo Commander I have to agree with mattismen, even if they make those cards exclusively for EDH, the moment they make a commander that is too good prices for that card will shoot up too much. I mean, Firesong is still worth at least 2€ which is still very high for a card that's not even all that great for EDH and would have been a 5 cent bulk rare in the booster. Imagine if that would have been the highly desired Muldrotha...

So, your argument against what Wizard did with FS&SS is to point out how bad it would be if they did it different? That doesn't make any sense. The fact that they chose FS&SS and not Muldrotha just goes to show that maybe they know what they are doing. You should probably wait until they actually do something wrong to criticize. What botters me more in this whole issue is the fact that FS&SS is not a Reserved List card. Nothing stops Wizards from printing it again if it ever get too expensive. So i don't know what the fuss is all about.

Absolutely top-quality video! I was considering a F&S deck, and one card I'm surprised you're not going for is Alhammarret's Archive. Double life gain sounds exquisitely silly and double the card draw really helps Boros in grasping at card advantage, especially if you're casting Cathartic Reunion and drawing six cards.

Trust me, the idea of gaining DOUBLE all of the life is enticing but I feel like we gain enough life to not need more support in that area. I feel like we are SUPER weak when it comes to card draw which is why drawing double would be nice but then I'm putting in a card that synergizes with one of the deck's weakest areas. I would much rather have another instance of draw than something that doesn't do what I need until I get that draw spell.

something ive learned with FS&SP is that land tax is A+ in the deck, using stuffy doll with burn spells such as shivan meteor throws 13 at someone you hate or using damage board wipes with said stuffy doll such as earthquake or blasphemous act rings in alot of damage especially with cards such as furnace of rath, dictate of twin gods and other double damage spells to double what you hand out and the life you get, im extremly in love with the deck i built and yes dropping an aetherflux on someone is refreshing as well

For ramp for Boros, I recently was reminded of the card Surveyor's Scope. In a multiplayer game, and with you in Boros, the chances of every opponent have 2 or more lands than you is pretty much 100%. Depending on how many people at the table, this can be 2 mana to get 3-4 basic lands into play untapped. Also as a couple fun cards, I love the idea of being able to play Red Ward to enchant my commander and prevent the board-wide damage I throw out, and if you're going with a smaller spells approach, Basilisk Collar is incredibly good since it will turn any 3-damage ping on a creature into destroy because of death touch, and lets you gain another 3 life.

A neat trick is to trigger land tax, then pitch those extra cards to a Teferis puzzle box so you are essentially drawing 3 extra cards a turn with the puzzle box. Its very efficient and I use it in my Kemba deck alot

Great deck concept. I also feel Pyroclasm could be good as a low cmc weenie killer. Hitting every thing for 2 would kill mainly tokens and mana dorks. But on a full field would be a nice stimulant for your health.

Slagstorm and Anger of the Gods are generally better overall, even though they cost one more, 2 vs 3 is just a massive jump when you think about it. if not to kill off bigger creatures but as a lifegain multiplyer. Also, if you really want a burn nuke Blasphemous Act is just all the Lifelinked burn damage you could ever want.

I'm excited to play Sunforger in this deck! Not a huge package or anything, but it seems very fulfilling to have these cool Minotaurs named FIRESONG and SUNSPEAKER share an awesome warhammer (or whatever Sunforger is), and snagging some protection like Teferi's Protection or Boros Charm could be useful. Another cool card that I think might be really strong with these guys is Deflecting Palm, since it's the instant itself that's dealing the damage. I believe most redirect-damage spells have no synergy with Firesong and Sunspeaker, right?

Renewed Faith works, the source of the trigger is the spell, a trigger can't be a source by itself, therefore, FS&SS triggers. And same forSpiritualize and Samite Ministration. 112.7. The source of an ability is the object that generated it. The source of an activated ability on the stack is the object whose ability was activated. The source of a triggered ability (other than a delayed triggered ability) on the stack, or one that has triggered and is waiting to be put on the stack, is the object whose ability triggered. To determine the source of a delayed triggered ability, see rules 603.7d 603.7d If a spell creates a delayed triggered ability, the source of that delayed triggered ability is that spell. The controller of that delayed triggered ability is the player who controlled that spell as it resolved. good job anyway, great vids!

Great video, I've been working on my own build of this as well, concentrating on the stuffy doll type creatures, and doubling spells affects. I played a game with pyromancer goggles, primal amulet flipped, and I cast lightning Helix 3X, then I activated the ability of Mirror Pool (which you should include in your build) for a 4th casting of the spell, all with Firesong out. I can't remember if I was able to cast Increasing Vengeance or reverberate on it as well. Another card you should consider adding to your build is Wild Ricochet...My Meta plays a lot of white exile, so it's nice to have handy to either double one of my bombs or re-direct a Path to Exile or Sword to Plowshares.

When this whole gaining xxx life works, it's pretty much pointless for the other players to play on. They'd just give up because I'm out of reach, and winning this way is not the way I'd like to win. I love this video man, super cool idea for the commander, and something that I️ will def work on to make. I think something that could make the buy-a-box promo a better idea, would be to give lgs’s extra copies that they can give away through either drawings, fnms, commander nights, or other events. This could not only put a little more into the market, and lower the price (currently like $8 so not that bad), but it also lessens the exclusivity of a card, and gets people to participate more in events if they want that card. Putting it at only a buy-a-box lends itself to putting up a paywall that not everyone can afford (I️ know I don’t have enough to drop on buying a box). It’s a good plan to give more to lgs’s, but it needs a little more to make it a fully fleshed out idea.

I think that's a great idea! ... but that would mean WOTC would give something away JUST for the good of the LGSs. LOL, maybe ... I like the idea of "a few extras" because what's the harm in that and it makes people happy. I think there is always some sort of paywall. Booster packs are something we accept (and they are amazing to draft) but they do not work in the consumers favor at all.

I love how janky this commander is. Hopefully, although being exclusive, is not really that expensive. I should try to make a room for it on my Boros Legion deck, but i doubt he is taking the "commander" spot. I'm still too prone to creature-based decks. If he only did the 3 damage whenever you gained life... But I cannot keep out of my mind "death rayin" people with the reservoir. Also, could an overcharged grapeshot work for the 3 dmg trigger? That would really be amazing.

PLEASE DO RADHA!!! I am trying to build a Radha deck but it is soooo fragile. I just can’t get the balance of stuff right. I tried to do tokens and overrun effects but it just got blown out every game. I am now making it more creature focused and slower but still can’t get the balance right. I would love to see a mega competitive (or competitive in a relatively casual playgroup) as possible!

Devour and x spells is a nice idea, make tons of tokens, swing for mana those that survive get eaten by Thromock for example. Don't know if that's what you already doing but that's what I'd do.

I love your Idea going for the huge combo's like board wipes with star of extinction and trying to forget the small instants and sorcery's like Lightning Bolt. But that isn't very realistic. I don't think you can wait 12 turns do some action vs a Krenko Vampire EDH decks. Same with your huge costs token generators, small isn't so bad, it gives some defence and action early game because of the cheap mana cost. The average card cost in your deck is ad least 5 mana which makes your deck slow like a snail on sundays.

I built a hay-maker version of this prior to seeing this video. It's fun, but definitely a deck I only play once or twice in a while. You're still very vulnerable to commander damage, answers cripple you, and you definitely have to play politics to survive til the deck goes off. But it's hilarious when people aren't expecting a Furnace'd Star of Extinction hits 12 creatures. Also, add Braid of Fire to this. Just for the chance Neheb is out and you can cast a small instant on upkeep. I've got more mana rocks than card draw, but I may change that. (also, shame on Wizards for making a promo exclusive card)

Crystal Ball is so good. Vance's Blasting Cannons for redundancy. Also I see Orim's Thunder* in some list and I don't think it triggers. Acidic Soil and Chant of Vitu-Ghazi are ones I never thought of so thanks!

Chant is in there to protect the commander/your field so you can have all the abilities you need to trigger once you launch your spells. Honestly, there are also a lot of white protections spells that have incidental lifegain that go well in here. Like deflecting palm. Sure it's technically one use, but if you fight against a deck with a giant creature (or the new Multani, which can get up to commander damage equal to your starting life total levels of stupid in a super ramp deck) you can stop it's damage, get both abilities from FS/SS to go off (snipe a mana dork/pillowfort creature/ability on a stick you don't want sticking around) and potentially take out a player in one fell swoop. Or it protects yourself from a commander damage kill (or some stupid effect based off damage to opponents) and gives you a turn to cast a giant spell. And if you have the red creature that gives you back an instant or sorcery every upkeep, you have reusable protection, damage, and lifegain in one card. Also, I'm suprised he left out Braid of Fire, I know it wastes the mana when passing phases, but there's an artifact that says: pay 2 generic, add a charge counter on *insert name here*; and: Remove a charge counter, add one mana of any color. Sure it can be a lighting bolt, but with a small amount of artifact recursion , you can build up a massive amount of mana to spend on spells. Also, add in the red counterspells too so they can go off more often (sure they only target blue, but that's where most counterspells are anyway)

I really like that we're finally getting a non-combat Boros commander. I really like the colour combination, but not a big fan of legendaries like Aurelia or that other angel.

Ive wanted to play so badly. ive played a handful of boros commanders as well as other red commanders as well and i seem to have lots of fun with them. very underrated play style

I like the way they play ... but then I get bored. I feel like I'm always one boardwipe away from being in last place ... now with F&S I'll be the one casting the board wipes MUHAHAHAHAHA

I personally like the lightning helix and warleader's helix with the liege of bale fire and firesong and sunspeaker. I am also curious about adding in Brightflame for that really mana heavy play that seems hilarious ^^

Firemoo and Suncattle look like fun to play, but I agree with DJ on the fact that you need huge ramp and draw to play these splashy spells to close out the game. I think the deathstar plan of throwing 50 life at someone’s face is hilarious and probably the most anxiety inducing plan. While I like winning with a life total, I prefer winning with something big and flashy and stupid which is the only reason you play with Steaksong and Tritip speaker. Makes me wish I had one to return to trying to tinker with another Boros commander

I'm glad you decided to tackle this weird and interesting Creature. However, the cards you recommend cost a total of around $400 (+shipping if you get them online instead of at your local game store), and that's without any lands or any sort of ramp to get the commander in play sooner than turn 6. That's a pretty steep investment on a deck that isn't gonna perform well that often due to the absolute necessity of having your high mana cost commander in play. Now granted, there are cheaper substitutes for many of the money cards on your list, but you're still looking at $100-$200 for a weaker version of the deck, that still doesn't perform well without the commander.
