To be fair, my armchair diagnosis of the vet was that he has a dementia or mental illness that is untreated or inadequately treated. He has been allowed to misbehave in this way for so long that it is his normal. For commenters saying he should have been treated differently: he chose the narrative and pursued it relentlessly. The cop could have said a) "Hey folks. There's a first amendment auditor in town. Here's a good opportunity for you to promote our town and your business". Or b) "He has every right to do this. Just ignore him and he'll go away". Or c) "He's just trying to get a reaction out of you. Best not to react". My guess is he meant something along the lines of b), but it came out more like c). I think this is a good cop with the best intentions at heart, but he cocked up and was quite correctly berated by Mr AP. If there's no problem, nothing needs fixing. That and I question his time of service. Don’t get me wrong, I am not questioning whether or not he served, I am questioning as to whether he served in WWII, because he certainly doesn’t appear old enough to have been around during WWII. That and he certainly doesn’t appear to be a day of over 90 years of age. From what I see, at least in my observation, he appears to be in mid to late 70s perhaps early 80s, which means he very likely is a Vietnam Vet. Plus virtually just about all of the WWII vets are deceased and passed on. Just my theory anyway.
