As a criminal defence lawyer in a small town in southwestern Ontario, Canada, my male client, age 40, charged with sex assault on a female, suddenly identified as a female and was transferred to the female unit. This happened in 2023. There was a transgendered person in the female unit in the TV series, Orange is the new Black. This is NOT a one off incident.

You make a very good point. What should happen is a recognition of the difference between Biology and Gender Identity. A biological male inmate should not be housed with biological female inmates. That is wrong and endangers both people, and can lead to more time spend in prison due to assault of any kind. Gender Identity should be recognized and people have a right to say that they are what they want to be and no one should be physically or mentally harmed for saying they are whatever they want to be. Biology plays a part though, and the difference between biology and identity needs to be recognized! You cannot change biology, its a fact it is science and it something that cannot be altered. Identity however is of the mind, it is your soul which is fluid at times and other times set. Our identity, the way we view ourselves changes all the time depending on so many factors. I don't care what people identify as, but I have a problem when they say biology doesn't matter and my identity trumps biology and therefor I am allowed to go to a womens prison or compete in women's sports. That pisses me off.

Every argument is conflict, and conflict writes it's own rules. There's a distinction between winning an argument and achieving resolution. Diplomacy is a lost art.
