Vince owns the entire show.
Full Episode from 03-16-1992 featuring Murray Hodgekins, Vince McMahon, Barry Orton and Tony Cole in the first portion of the show.
Here was the guest list:
Vince McMahon: He looked to be about 20 years younger than he does now. And
back then, people said he looked 20 years older than he really was. Vince
was pure Vince on this show, before he had ever played heel on television.
Bruno Sammartino: If Bruno had sat next to McMahon, this show would've
turned into a Jerry Springer-like onstage brawl. As it turned out, Bruno
remained calm and made the most sense out of anyone on the panel.
Superstar Billy Graham: Graham was there to confirm his own experience with
steroids and also his experience taking them with Hogan himself.
Unfortunately, Graham did a lot of stuttering and rambling and wasn't able
to make his points effectively.
Murray Hodgson: Murray claimed he was fired 2 weeks after he refused to
sleep with Pat Patterson. He was initially hired to be one of the lead
announcers ala Sean Mooney. While Hodgson lacks credibility in hindsight,
his performance here stole the show.
Dave Meltzer: Dave was there as the outside analyst/expert. Dave had the
best knowledge on all the facts, but had virtually no experience in front of
the camera and was nervous because of it. He did OK, but I'm sure there are
things he would've liked to change. Even if he had gotten the chance, there
were simply too many people on the panel to really make a striking
impression.
Barry Orton: Barry is the brother of Bob Orton and the uncle of Randy. He
wrestled as "Barry O" in WWF mid-80s prelims. Barry was never a big star
and had nothing to lose by coming forward. He improved on his droning
appearance on Larry King, but his talking style was simply not suited for
the fast-paced world of talk TV.
Tom Hankins: Hankins was another veteran mid carder who gave us a Pat
Patterson story. After a brief speech in the beginning, he was never heard
from again.
John Arezzi: Arezzi, who has disappeared from the wrestling world, was on as
another expert/analyst. He had a popular radio show at the time, and he was
a good guest, but didn't get much talk time.

Phil Donahue was certainly THE pioneer of daytime television. There wasn’t a topic off limits. Being as I was born in the late ‘80s I only saw the last six years of his show. I knew whenever I was at my grandparents house, Donahue was always on at 9 am. I was too young to appreciate the topics but that theme song is iconic. Rest easy sir 1935-2024.

That is all my grandma ever watched was Oprah Winfrey, and Donahue. She didn't start watching his show until about 1982 when it was on KTVU channel 2 in the Bay Area in the afternoon. But then in 1985, he moved to ABC. On ABC, he would come on after Oprah Winfrey at 4 PM.

The announcers story sounds kind of bogus for sure, like what happened to him was bogus. But do you really think that Pat Patterson went to Vince McMahon and said something like "hey you're announcer won't suck my c ck. Fire him for me" and so McMahon obeyed that order? Was it possible if there's a little more to the story? And no. That doesn't make it right for Pat Patterson to go around pressuring people under him to touch his butt bat but we had gay men so deep in the closet at that point that there was an entire culture of this shit that happened. You can't look at that announcer and listen to him and tell me that Patterson shouldn't think he would be able to take a swing at that lol

I think they just found the whole situation to be absurd. Also, I'm sure homosexual activity was not as accepted or respected back then. Lastly, men, especially wrestlers, were/are viewed as much stronger and aggressive than women and not as susceptible to sexual harassment; therefore, many people don't take it as seriously as when it happens to women.

you goddamn fucking idiots are the problem how many of you don't really care about male survivors of sexual assault until you realized "i could use this against FuCKING FEMINISTS!!!!!!" you know, generally speaking, when a guy comes out as having been sexually assaulted it's the guys who are first to rag shit on him and the feminists who are first to support him, but since none of you total jackarses have ever paid any attention to what actual feminists say or do you just sit back and talk absolute shit based on vague, second hand appraisals from whichever source fitted your view best. or maybe some super chopped up list of quotes that you straight up didn't understand. sexual assault against guys is taken uniquely less seriously, in some specific ways for sure, but it sure ain't women who are usually the problem. but if you want people to believe you're not misogynist, or whatever, hearing an audience of probably vaguely conservative middle class 40 something women giggle at "gay wrestling sex scandal" and then going "DUMB BITCHES!!! FEMINISTS RUIEND WOMEN" is not gonna help your reputation avoid fucking tanking

I wonder why Donahue didn't allow questions about homosexuality in the WWF to be answered. When one member from the audience asked, they went to commercial when someone on the panel was trying to answer and his response was not heard. The other time, Donahue cut the audience member off and went to someone else without giving the panel a chance to respond. Sounds like McMahon may have paid Donahue to keep certain topics out of the discussion as much as possible.

@@mightyknight I understand where you're coming from. Dude held his own against Vince. I admire that. He spoke straight facts and Vince just couldn’t handle being called out, hence why he proceeded to insult the dude’s skills as a ring announcer in a conversation where it doesn’t belong.

Vince was acting during this. It's a trick to psych people out. Act nervous to make them get comfortable, take a few hits on the chin to make them feel powerful & then once their ego starts to take over, they will begin to make mistakes & then you wait for the shot & take it. Vince McMahon is very smart in terms of psychology.

Why are those people in the audience laughing? What's so funny?
@jeprice08
@jeprice08 9 жыл бұрын
LongLostYellowRanger I think they are laughing at Donahue's reactions as to what's happening on his show at a particular moment. It's almost like The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson. I think I know another reason on why they're laughing: I think...I think it's because this audience is not seriously buying any of this. It's like they have already made up their minds on who they are going to listen to and not listen to. It's also a possibility that they may not mean to laugh, it's just the way it's presented to them.

I read Hodgson’s own lawyer decided to drop him as a client after McMahon and his team of lawyers and independent private investigators discovered that this wasn’t Hodgson’s first sexual harassment lawsuit.Apparently, Murray Hodgson made a career out of suing ex employer’s for the same accusations. The judge in his case not only dismissed his lawsuit, but allegedly called Murray Hodgson , ‘A Habitual liar and con man.

@@davinalopez-oz1ez Where did you read that? I don't know what the outcome of all this was or what became of him since this. He should be interviewed today. I assumed that WWF settled with him and gave him a payout to end it. But I could be wrong.

They were using straw man arguments and whataboutisms to deflect what was really going on. The fact is, everything they were accusing of was true in some way, and I did enjoy the announcer going toe to toe with Vince, after all the atrocities that have occurred under that sociopath's watch.
