Another good lesson here. When driving in the area of a major water leak, DO NOT drive thru it. You have no idea what is under the water.
@JimDean0023 жыл бұрын
Stopped to cover a big water main break one time working for the newspaper. Was a good ways back, pulled in next to a deputy. We walked over to the leak, and could see it was huge. And it was apparently originating from up where our cars were. We looked up that way and could literally see the utility poles next to our cars leaning and swaying as the water washed around them, and these were big poles with lots of cables. We chanced it, and moved. One of them fell a few minutes later. Turns out it was a 24 inch main connecting two water towers, and it flowed until one tank went dry. The road was closed for four days to rebuild the hole.

@JS-zb1vv3 жыл бұрын
@xheralt have to disagree with you. It’s hooked in between the rear tires. So the line is pressing on the body very hard . A spreader bar above the engine on the rear would have prevented and body damage. The front was actually hooked on the front so nothing there. But the rear needs a large spreader bar .

Stick to firefighting and let the professional wrecker operators do the vehicle recovery's !! I don't care if they went to a Rotator school or not, hands on experience is the best training anyone can get and these firefighters don't get enough hands on experience! Wasting tax payers money on Rotators!
@JohnDoe-vy1ys3 жыл бұрын
That's the same as saying a soldier in the army shouldn't be a helicopter mechanic, they should stick to shooting guns and fighting wars. What most people don't understand is that these Heavy Rescue operators are not staffed by civilians, they are sworn firefighters that aren't just trained to operate rotator trucks, they also specialize in rescue operations such as shoring, removing extricated people, and building collapse. And on top of that they can actively engage in firefighting operations. Plus they are on a 24 hour shift schedule that can respond with lights and sirens to any area in the city. And as far as hands on experience, have you been trained in any USAR operations? These guys are literally responding to every trapped persons call that occurs in the city unless canceled by the initial assignment. I understand that these rigs are expensive and that their existence costs the taxpayers a lot of money but these guys aren't just rotator truck drivers, they have to be a jack of all trades. The truth is private contractors cost taxpayers a lot of money as well and aren't able to respond quick enough and can't do the other functions that the HR operator's are trained to do, and I doubt that anyone saved by this rig would complain that it takes to much money out of their taxes. Everybody complains, until they need it.
@Nervegas3 жыл бұрын
@@JohnDoe-vy1ys Seconded. I'll also add that these heavy rescues go to all major traffic collisions as well, so the heavy rescue guys get plenty of hands-on time and experience doing this. As john pointed out, these rigs are also used in a variety of other tech rescue situations as well. Its by and away cheaper to buy the rotator and staff it with TRT guys then it would be to pay a private contractor every time they needed one.
