Bernie left of his own will. He knew that Mark couldn't take him, and in a rare display of compassion, the sign decided to take it upon himself to leave. Upon reaching the bottom of the ravine Bernie unleashed his true power and could enjoy walking among the flames in his empowered state. As he absorbed the life of all that burned, he found Ned drinking one of the teens' beer and walked up to the man. For once Ned showed no fear as he met Byrnes before in this state, and offered the demonic sign a beer from the stolen cooler. Bernie gladly accepted Ned's offer, and joined the man in watching the forest burn.

The first time I watched this playthrough I was 14, it was the middle of December in freshman year of highschool. I watched it pretty much all at once on a Sunday afternoon where the sky was snowy and bright. I liked to keep my window open as the snow fell outside despite the freezing air. I listened to it in the background while I did a coloring page for my Spanish homework in the middle of the night. I came back to this series for the first time today. I'm 18 now and I'm in my freshman year of college. I'm watching this series 4 years later, several states away in my college dorm. And yet, here I am, with my window open in the middle of winter as the frigid air filters in, doodling away on a sketch pad, and I feel more at home than I have in months. I know that nobody will likely read this or care, but it's really strange to relive a memory so vividly, and I think I just wanted to share or document it in some way. Maybe I'll come back to this series in another few years, still running up heating bills with my open window. But for now, thanks for reading this :) (12/15/22) Edit: it's been about a year since I commented this. I'm 19 now and on a completely different trajectory than I was a year ago, and still not entirely sure I'm on the right one. I'm still in college, and I went the whole winter without closing the window once. When I first wrote this comment I was feeling very lonely and homesick, but now, the home I once had, where I grew up, is gone. My family sold their house and left the state. I've been back to my hometown once, and it felt so hollow. But I think that's due largely to the fact that I've finally managed to make where I am now feel like home. I've started to associate the open window in the winter with playing cards on the floor with my roommates, listening to music with my brother, and forcing my friend to watch this playthrough series with me (she loved it too) instead of being alone and missing home. I still have those memories, but I have some better ones now too. Again, I know that even the people who replied to this probably aren't gonna care, but this is kinda more for me. I've come a long way in a year, and I think it's important to remember that, and to be grateful for where I came from. So thanks, and hopefully, see you next year :) (2/5/24)

The first time I watched this was around when I just lost my dad in a motorcycle accident. It was 2016 and I just found Markiplier on KZbin and that man helped me get through one of the hardest times in my life. 7 years later I am in a whole other state rewatching this and just happy to still have Mark and all his delightfulness getting me through all the crazy @$$ stuff we’ve been through since 2016 as humans. Lol Times are crazy and it’s nice to come back and just watch mark and his wholesome, funny content. It really makes me feel like everything will be alright.

I think the reason Ned was spying on them was to scare them off. Why else would he give them recording and evidence and not just hide it away? He didn't want them to find Brian. That's why after Henry found the body Ned revealed his secret. He even gave them a recording that indicates that the two of them started the Site Fire. Also, he didn't want to kill them because of his son.

Also important to remember they mention he was in the army and probably had PTSD. Add to that the likely grief from losing his some because as messed up of a dad as he was it did sound like he genuinely cared even if most of what he did for his some was bad. Like Mark kept saying "out of boredom" but I think it was paranoia. Given what happened to him he would not be in a proper state of mind which is a perfect breeding ground for such thoughts.
@michaelbugner7011
@michaelbugner7011 3 жыл бұрын
Someone could argue against that by asking why he would give henry the key to the cave if he didn't want his son found. Maybe Ned didn't know there was another way out of the cave and he was trying to trap you in there. No one would come for you since everyone is evacuating due to the fire. Or maybe it was guilt and he needed to tell someone. But I'm leaning towards the first one.

Honestly, I think this game has THE best voice acting I've ever seen in a game. While there are certainly hundreds of games out there with incredible voice acting, they still kinda feel just like that, acting. The ones in this game though? Every single line of dialogue that came out of Henry and Delilah's mouths felt so real- Everything from them goofing around and making jokes to the serious moments around the end, it all felt like genuine people having genuine conversations. Absolutely just excellent work!

the fenced off area was exactly what delila said, biologists, they were studying the behavior of local bears, the tracking collar you find is clearly too big for a human but could easily fit around a bear's neck. the report about the "four subjects" were about four bears. all the tracking equipment was for the bears that were being studied. ned just hacked into the radio towers in order to listen in on your's and delila's conversation. a bear has probably raided the two teenage girl's camp and they thought it was you that did it. ned hid from society in the park out of sheer guilt of losing his son. this entire game is more or less what paranoia can do to you, it revs up the imagination. though the part where Julia was on the radio kind of baffles me.

henry and delilah's relationship reminds me of internet friends. the types of relationships formed with the protection of your identity via the screen- or in this case, the walkies talkies- are often extremely personal and close within short spans of time. isolation certainly adds to that- henry and delilah's physical isolation, and the constant isolation of the human mind, even when you have people that love you, that's only ever quenched by having someone to vent all your thoughts and feelings to and the way that you never see delilah, and she leaves suddenly, unlikely to be seen ever again, it's like loosing touch with an internet friend. when they go offline one afternoon and never log back on, for whatever unexplainable reason just one comparison that jumped out at me throughout lol

We all have our "Henrys" and "Delilahs" at one point in our lives. We bond with someone close to us and tell them our secrets and problems only to eventually walk away and leave when it's time to face reality. We've all been in Henry's situation when we've had someone walk away and we've all been Delilah leaving someone behind to move forward. It's meant to be a realistic game

I mean I like how the game kinda subverted expectations and ended up just being a game about humans being humans. I think part of it kinda just shows how sometimes we can’t confront a lot of the things that are still right in front of us, and the game being about a firewatch tower guy probably adds to it, especially since all they do is watch the fire and report it but aren’t actually able to do anything about it.

I like how they also are put in difficult positions and it can be easy to judge them like: Henry has a wife with dementia but doesnt visit her because it's too painful. After watching the entire series many times, it just dawned on me. Ned probably studied Delilah and Henry in case they knew Brian died, if they did he would probably go to jail. Also makes sense, because in the beginning she left the line on and Henry heard her say "no, he doesn't know." Something else is that when Henry finds Ned's camp thing on the other side of the fence, he finds papers about both of them (Henry and Deliah) that had "long tie lover "Javier" written on it. Deliah then says "How the hell does he know about him?" I just remembered that Deliah and Ned knew each other before hand anyway. So he probably knew about Javier just from that. But, maybe Javier isn't real and that's why Ned had it written down like they were still together, but Deliah says they clearly were not. That might've been a mess up in their story. Idk anymore. I'm not good at theories, lol. I tried. Goodbye

Damn, that ending hit so hard into my feelings, even though I didnt play it but just watch it. That game was one of the most interesting ones I ever saw. A fully story driven game, so innovative, so heartwarming and yet so heart destroying aswell. I cant imagine how Henry feels or not feels after this. "Losing" another woman that he got so close to and all that. Man, and those pictures of Brian and his dad, that was something else. I actually almost cried there. It was so sad...

It's difficult to logic interpersonal relationships because emotions are irrational but therein lies the simplicity of them, they're emotion driven therefore anything goes and it's just that.

While I was wanting to see Delilah's face, I think the ending this way is far more realistic and leaves a deeper impact on the player and the protagonist. I wonder whether any level of sequel could happen, or even just us somehow finding out more about what happens to the characters, but I know that it's more likely that Firewatch was meant to be one complete package... Huh, interesting. It's 2018, and I just finished this series. I doubt anyone will ever care enough to find this comment, but if someone does, here's what I think. It was a good ending to this story, but I don't feel satisfied. However, I like that I don't feel satisfied. It's a realistic ending, one you're not supposed to be happy about, but one we can all relate to. In "real life" these people have lives outside of these jobs, and life goes on when they leave for the Fall. At some point in our lives, I feel like the majority of people will have their "Delilah"s. Someone we become close with, someone who we talk to about the serious problems in our lives. And someone who will disappear, walk away when it's time to return to and deal with reality. We've all had "Delilah"s, and I'm sure we've all been "Delilah"s. This was a very well done choice based game, and a great story to be told.

I disagree man I found this game to be depressing as shit and a giant cocktease with no payoff. So the scoop is that you have this job, where literally you are paid to chill out in a lookout for 2 months and the only purpose and reason for you being there is to call in if a fire happens. Wow so that means you have a lot of free time to hang out or whatever. So you have this interesting female who you are hitting it off with. You are both apparently available. She has been flirting with you the whole time and you were flirting back, she was enjoying it. She also likes to get drunk. You dont think at least one time in the two months neither of them would have the bright idea to take the 30 minute hike or whatever it is to the other lookout to hangout in person? I call bullshit. Like I said IMO I believe this game is a poorly written giant cocktease with no payout that just drops heavy dark shit on you and leaves it open ended and thinks its a good thing. Fuck this game.

@@shanemccausland958 I can't argue with your opinion, and I doubt there's anything I could say to change your mind. My personal inner-literature-teacher notes from before aside, let's take a look at the clues from the story. Delilah doesn't actually want to meet Henry. Any dialogue where he mentions going over there, she smacks that shit down on the spot. She's just a lonely flirt, and he was a body with ears. It's just her character. And Henry? Homeboy probably hasn't seen any sign of affection in years, which makes it real easy to fall for someone who's just flirting because they can. I don't know if you watched all of this over investment of the game's story, or the saga of the insurmountable love between Mark and Forest, but clearly something in this game motivated you to watch all the way through, so it can't be COMPLETE garbage!

@@klowngaming4507 Game still felt like a cocktease with no payoff and a very depressing open ended ending. All buildup with no payoff. Logic jumped around a lot and I felt it had continuity errors. It really did seem like a weird government spyjob but no turns out it was just crazy dad whos son died in an accident who decided to stalk the rangers for reasons. Then the game ends. Is he going to go visit julia? Delilah sounds like she was letting him down easy, didnt even wait for him for the helicopter ride. "Yeah maybe ill visit sometime if I am heading that direction". Yeah no not happening. Waste of time. Not even traded contact info. I imagine if you explore and unlock more secrets you get a different ending. This was the depressing ending. Maybe its as simple as selecting different dialogue options (remember when mark picked an option that said annoyed her?) But who has time for all of that. Also hours played or watched =/= good or satisfying game. With that logic I would have to call the star wars prequels good because I sat through all three and rewatched them

@@shanemccausland958 ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** Okay, so Delilah never ends up with Henry, the only thing that changes is whether or not she sounds guilty about what she's doing. The only other alternate ending is if you wait too long to get on the helicopter, because it will leave Henry there. I think that one's just a bug though. And yea, if you explore around a bit you find more clues like how the government camp is just an old abandoned wildlife research project, the "transcripts" were just made to scare them off from coming to find Ned, and how Ned just didn't want to go back to society without his son. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the game or the story though man :( And I'm not saying time invested means it was good, just that at the very least it was intriguing

@@klowngaming4507 You admit Delilah was flirting and leading Henry on the entire game, at some points becoming close claiming she has a special relationship with Henry. Was she actually with her ex and lying? Thats what one document said at the start. I just didnt see the point of the game it cockteased you the entire time to have the 40 year old women reject you at the end, while dropping heavy shit on you left and right and gave you a few tragedies. Tragic that henries wife had alzheimer's and that it progressed, tragic that deliliah left the man she loved when his brother died, tragic that Neds son died to an accident and he went crazy with grief over it. Basically the game was a platform to take tragedy dumps on your face with filler being cocktease banter from a 40 year old prude who only pretended to be playful and lead you on. That and stalker mystery murder stuff. Dark depressing pointless (imo).

(around 15:40 im not sure) That's what makes the game so beautiful though. You expect it to be about a group of psychopaths spying on 2 friends doing their thing but it's not. That's actually a surprisingly common dilemma when it comes to the partners of those suffering from dementia: if you partner is so far gone that they don't recognise or remember you, is pursuing other relationships cheating, and is it therefore immoral? God, this is one of my favorite types of games. I don't find very often that a game hits me on an emotional level. This is truly a game about people, and we are just silent observers. Delilah and Henry (Hank) feel like the kind of people you could go out and have a drink with. They're the types of people that you could talk to for hours. It almost makes me sad that they aren't real, and I can't meet them in real life. This is one of my favorite games, and there's no game like it.

My grandmother has Alzheimer's, she used to be this super sweet lady who would have us come over on the weekends to make sweets or to have dinner with us, everyone loved her because of her sweet personality, no bad bone in her body. She would often hum when doing anything, cleaning and cooking or even just playing with my brother and I. I loved her, i still do. But she got diagnosed with it when I was 17, 19 now, and seeing that person who used to light up the room, turn into an almost feral hateful person was so crushing. She now only cursed and swiped at people, she was balding from her pulling out her hair and eating it, she would have this dazed look while humming and standing in the middle of a room, she no longer cooked and would clean things that were already clean over and over and over again. It was so heart breaking to watch, and the people around me, my mom, my grandpa, my sister, they all treated her like shit, constantly yelling at her and were so rough with her, and she HATES them, she will hit at them and yell and call them all sorts of names, and she refuses to listen to them. Im not going to paint myself as a saint here, ive definitely gotten frustrated a few times with her, but if you were to sit down and talk with her, even if she repeats herself, or calmly talk to her and treat her like an adult that she is, she will listen and talk to you even if she does not remember you. Oh thats the other thing. She doesnt remember my name and she often forgets who i am. someone i have known my whole life and someone im close to doesnt even remember me. I only tell her my name and that im her granddaughter, and sometimes just my name, because shell forget a few seconds later. I live with her for half a year and the other half she spends in Ohio. In those 6 months that i spend with her i try to make sure that she knows that she is loved even if she does not remember who i am. My grandpa keeps my family updated with how she is doing, and recently she has gotten so bad that her scalp constantly bleeds from her pulling out her hair, her clothes dont even fit her anymore she is basically a living skeleton, and she has tried to unalive herself multiple times, not purposefully, she has locked herself in the car before forgot how to open the locks with the windows all the way up and in 110 degree weather, but she just forgets that shes waiting. It's miserable hearing what is going on and what she is going through and even the doctors are saying she probably doesnt have much time left. If i were in Henry's position i wouldve flown to austalia to be with my wife, i wouldve never drank and i wouldve spent as much time as I could. It's hard to take care of someone with dementia, but to be able to spend time with them before they pass is time I would never trade. Abandoning your wife for some chick you dont even know what they look like is despicable and i hope karma bites him in the ass. I know its a game but he chose to ask some random chick back to THEIR house that they shared their life in over spending time with his wife.

What hurts about this game the most is the lack of closure because we dont get to see Delilah and like it is said in the game we are just disappointed. It really shows how we as people can get lost in better lives when things go south. Similar to giving a kid and inch and them taking a mile, we can become desperate in hard times. This is an amazing game and is similar to that of a book because watching for a second time has been a new experience with new overwhelming thoughts. This game is beautiful and I love the image it projects.
