FIREWATCH Description
Source store.steampowered.com/app/38...
Firewatch is a single-player first-person mystery set in the Wyoming wilderness.
The year is 1989. You are a man named Henry who has retreated from his messy life to work as a fire lookout in the Wyoming wilderness. Perched high atop a mountain, it’s your job to look for smoke and keep the wilderness safe. An especially hot, dry summer has everyone on edge. Your supervisor Delilah is available to you at all times over a small, handheld radio-your only contact with the world you've left behind. But when something strange draws you out of your lookout tower and into the forest, you’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.
A Note: Firewatch is a video game about adults having adult conversations about adult things. If you plan on playing with a younger gamer, that might be good to know going in.
Includes
A stunningly beautiful wilderness environment that expands as you explore.
A tailor-made story: the choices you make shape the narrative and build relationships.
An edge-of-your-seat mystery.
Secrets and discoveries to be made over every hill.
Featuring
Living, breathing characters brought to life by Cissy Jones (The Walking Dead: Season 1) and Rich Sommer (Mad Men)
A spectacular wilderness environment by Olly Moss (Illustrator) and Jane Ng (The Cave, Brutal Legend)
A thrilling story and script by Sean Vanaman and Jake Rodkin (The Walking Dead: Season 1, Poker Night at the Inventory)
A stirring original soundtrack by Chris Remo (Gone Home)
Fluid first-person animation by James Benson (Ori & The Blind Forest)
Gameplay scripting and design work by Patrick Ewing (Twitter) and Nels Anderson (Mark of the Ninja)
Programming by Will Armstrong (Bioshock II), Ben Burbank (Costume Quest 2, Space Base DF-9), and Paolo Surricchio (Deadpool, Call of Duty Advanced Warfare)

Just for the record: I've some people saying I got lost a lot... which is true. However, I was trying to find hidden things, because I didn't know how many off-the-beaten-path type things would be in the game. Example: That dead-end I went to a little after the fire scene. I wanted to see if there was extra dialogue. Plus, some of the stuff made more sense with the commentary, but I cut that because it just wasn't that good.

Man this game is really something. Started off with a bitter life which puts our main character in the location, then gives a ray of hope, then there is conflict. The scale of the conflict is magnified significantly by imaginations. In the end it turns out to be a human after all and even that guy was not some batshit crazy killer. It ends with the paradise being forcefully taken away from the main character making him face his true problems again. If he does not face his problems then he will be just like Ned who abandoned his son because he was too scared to accept the reality. Man this game is deep.

only minor gripe i have is that i wish there could have been an epilogue, what happens to henry, what happens to delilah, what happens to julia in the future (hell, what happens to the teenage girls lol); it would be like the prologue, you have to choose the resolution to julia's story (do you stay with her and does she pass on or do you divorce her and forget about her, and does her family contact you again, or is there some other scenario), and then later on you meet up with delilah and see her and then you have to make another choice based on the context, whether you want to stay with her in a relationship or marry her or forget about her. What's said, what's not said? What other scenarios play out when they see each other? But nevertheless, what a brilliant little gem this was, a solid 9/10 and a surefire game of the year contender

I'm not so sure about that. Yeah, it is possible but I think about something that Tynan Sylvester described in his book "Designing Games". It's called apophenia and it's the human tendency to see patterns in complex data, whether they exist or not. He says that if devs hide things and leave stuff open the game's more interesting because the gaps are filled with the player's fantasy. Maybe that's what they were going for. Everyone has a different taste, I guess some people would have liked if the devs fleshed out the whole conspiracy thing and others thought about some crazy killer that was roaming the wilderness. You can't please everyone, so they left a good chunk of the plot unanswered or open to interpretation, so players are more interested in figuring out what the story really was about. And I feel like if they were going for this they accomplished it.

If you read between the line, it's possible to infer what Delilah is hiding. Remember that overheard conversation? How did Delilah talk to "work" when the communication lines were cut down? She had to be talking to someone on the walie-talkie in the vecinity of the trail...can you guess who?

I just wanted to say to all the people saying this game is boring and lame since it doesn't have supernatural or serial killers... That is the point of this game. It's a game that's meant to be played and not watched so that you truly experience the paranoia that makes you worry about the supernatural or conspiracy theories that could be. Only to come to the realization that everything that has happened can be for a reason as "small" as the reason that was. It's suppose to show you how paranoid you or the characters can and WOULD get if you went through this in real life. A game of crazy imagination and reflection, not so much brutality of here's something to shoot or run away from this fucked up monster that's about to wreck you harder than Turt Renold's shell. ;)

Is it me or does anyone else think that Delilah seems... Suspicious? Idk it's just.. some of her responses to Henry seemed weird. Like how she seems to not care about Henry's survival sometimes and some of her reactions like that idea to burn down the tent seems odd. Also, her overly friendly attitude seems like a facade... Idk maybe it's just me. I was actually hoping for her be the person behind all of this in the end. I thought this was like a psychological experiment of some kind on Henry about how a similar effect to the stockholm syndrome occurs in a person who's been in isolation for a small period of time. Hell, that could actually be possible. And maybe the "ending" was not really an ending? I mean, think about it.. Imagine a game where you manipulate someome and observe their reactions and in the end the subject was mislead into believing that he wasn't manipulated or that he wasn't part of an experiment.. So you did your job well.. That could be exactly what happened here, whoever manipulated Henry (I still believe it was Delilah) did their job so well that Henry was manipulated into believing everything was Ned's doing. Hell.. Maybe he was in on the experiment as well.. I use the word "manipulated" cuz in the report about him that apparently Ned wrote his "susceptibility to Manipulation" was 9. A higher number than Delilah which was a 3. "susceptibility to manipulation" they telling us to believe that Ned wrote that? Seriously? No fucking way.. Ned, who lost his fucking son would spend time writing very detailed reports about two random people. And Henry even said that there were things in the report that he didn't tell Delilah about. So, if it was Ned and he was just listening to their radios, how in the world would he know those details? There's no way Ned was the one behind all this. *Sigh* My point is that I think..the story was not what it seemed on the surface. I'm sure of it. There's gotta be something going on. Maybe.. It's like a detective story but the protagonist doesn't solve anything.. We the player/viewer have to find out what actually happened?

Jeez these comments... The two girls were found, you obviously weren't paying attention if you keep asking. I love the ending, its such a bitter sweet feeling. You have to remember, Henry is married, he won't break things off with his wife because she has dementia, he obviously still loves her if he keeps his ring as well as momento's of her.Exp being the picture and her drawing journal. Yes him and D had a connection, but if you spend over 70 days with nobody else to talk to you obviously will start to have a connection with them. The only thing that bothered me was, who was D talking to at the beginning when she said "I don't think he knows"

@@FreestylebxD I don't know why but I had this feeling that they were making things up in order to scare Henry and fuck him over if he dared to call the police or whatever. I don't think it was Ned. It could've been a bear destroy the tent while the girls could've been swimming at that time or wondering around or messing with the radio tower at that time. It's pretty common bears destroying tents and knowing those two girls, they probably left some food out. It's pretty obvious it was a bear.

Some games are great with commentary. This is not one of those games. Playing this game should be treated like watching a good movie with a well written story or reading a good book. You want to pay attention and have a cathartic experience. It's a story about regular people like you. Complete with their own unique strengths, weaknesses, flaws, challenges and circumstances. They face struggle, uncertainty and tragedy just like you do in your own life. And they deal with it in their own way, like you. That's why it's interesting and gripping. Great game

This game has so much potential for an even scarier spinoff. Slenderman? Sure. Sasquatch? Hella. Chase sequence, glances of someone following you, they could even really ratchet up the suspense. I like this game a lot as is, and would love to see an even scarier version

This game just gives your heart a rollercoaster ride and just leaves it floating in the sky. I wouldn't say that the ending was bad, but there could have been an alternative ending where you see Delilah. The best thing this game does is that it leaves a first hand memory of the events so that you remember them like they happened in your life.

1:35:43 WOW i'm so glad that I remembered this reference from Gone Home. Loved this game so much and loving even more firewatch just because of this book. For those who don't know, terrence greenbriar (the author of this book) is an unsuccessful writer, also the father of the sister's protagonist of the game Gone home, sam, who is the most important character of the narrative. A quick detail for both games, but I confess that made me smile.

All the time I when hear Henry, I just kept thinking about Dean from In the Dark. I knew that voice sounded familiar XD. Anywho, it was a nice game, but freaked me out a bit. Some parts felt so isolating an made me paranoid, I was doubting what was real and what wasn't anymore. So many ideas running in my mind. I began to think the whole thing was in Henry's head (yes, even if Delilah was in on it or if she was even real). I especially kept anticipating a bear attacking while hiking haha. When you found the ax, I felt a bit better. I like to go walking at night, this game really inspired me to be more careful. Think I'll start carrying a pack of basics, just in case. Thumbs up.

you know what's interesting. Games like this always seems so stupid when you first look at them. But I actually like games like this. It's very calming in the beginning is very relaxed it. In fact to me it's almost has the makings of a movie. And having been an actual volunteer fire watchman once in the mountains of Central Washington I can tell you that in some cases that's largely what they do. They spend most of their time in the watchtowers looking for smoke. Its actually only quite rare that they are asked to go and confront individuals that are doing stupid things. the graphics are actually quite nice especially for something that's so cartoony looking. In a way this kind of reminds me of the ps3 digital download game journey. It's very simplistic in nature but its still very compelling. and I admit that even though the back story is all told through text the simple fact that this is about a guy who has a wife who's dealing with the onset of Alzheimer's actually makes you a bit more invested so to speak in the character of Henry.
@Buutaro
@Buutaro 8 жыл бұрын
+ultrajd The visuals are great, was always investing but still relaxing. And the setting also really lends itself to being a mystery, just the uncertainty of it all. That's what I liked so much about it, and I guess that's what's part of the fun in the job too. Not that I'm asking about you personally, but is it true that most lookouts get the job because they're getting away from something? I mean that's a lot of alone time up there.
@ultrajd
@ultrajd 8 жыл бұрын
Buutaro well there are a few people that do that but it's actually not as common as the game makes it sound. Most of the time it's people that are just trying something different in life. Though the one individual that I spoke to a couple of times over the radio who had just gone through a divorce so while it isn't overly common it does happen.
@Buutaro
@Buutaro 8 жыл бұрын
***** Ah, I see. It's certainly a given but yea, I didn't think it'd be so common. Where in Washington did you volunteer? I'd be interested to look into it someday.
@ultrajd
@ultrajd 8 жыл бұрын
Buutaro I don't recall the actual name of the area anymore because it's been quite a few years. But it was out near Spokane. The closest thing I could suggest is simply Google firewatch volunteer job or something and then see where that gets you. I want to warn you though it can be quite boring. But at the same time it's kind of nice. But you have to be to an individual who can stand being on your own for a long time so you might get a partner but that's rare at least it was when I did it. And you also need to be at least a fairly good Woodsman.

I felt the game was a little misleading at the beginning... What was up with D talking to someone while H was listening, saying, "I don't think be knows. Absolutely not," etc. I thought she knew more than what she was telling. Then the girls go missing and other strange things happen that really make you invested since there seems to be something sinister happening. Then everything slowly wraps up neatly and just left me feeling underwhelmed. Seems like there was a lot more potential to be had with this game. But anyway, thanks for the video!!!
