That practice of trying go as far as you can without using the brakes is an outstanding way to drive . It helps you avoid tailgating and avoid panic stops. It also requires you to pay attention. Keep up the great work!

While that is very true and an exhaust brake allows one to do that as per not requiring the use of the brakes near as much, unfortunately what it does not do is warn traffic behind you that you are slowing down other than the use of a turn signal well in time that indicates a turn is planned if in fact a turn is being made. I know to some this comment may sound odd but that is a fact, brake lights give that warning and at night its even more desirable to have the brake lights come on. I try with the tractor trailer as I am jaking to apply the brake pedal enough to engage the brake lights one or more times just to wake up/warn the person behind me as to my intent.

I had a delivery years ago that was not fun. The difference was it was a large load of hay bails and the air compressor on the truck locked up. So I had to unload into the customer's pickup then have the truck towed.

The girls have commented several times on how beautiful their part of the Pennsylvania countryside is. When locals notice the beauty think about how much the tourists love it! When I was there it wasn't even fall colors and I was overwhelmed by the beauty of the area.

Hello Ladies. I am a long time subscriber, I think I was around the 800th sub. Anyways, when you mentioned the white cross on the side of the mountain, I knew you were driving route 15N and were just north of Blossburg. That cross was placed there to memorialize the people who passed away at that spot when a small plane crash happened in the 1960's. I was born and raised in Blossburg and was a small child when that happened.

A suggestion-before unloading to spot walk the ground and tap with foot/heal and still in doubt use shovel handle to jab for soft spots, avoid spike or sedge like plants. Keep on keeping on!

Military trucks have governors. Trucks pulling a load up hill just don't have enough power to go fast up hill and they have to take the load slow down hill also or they might lose control. Most semi trucks are running a 500 HP engine with 1800ftlbs or torque or even less, pulling 80,000 pounds....

Obviously, you have never driven a big truck. Most of the big companies have there their trucks governed. Most big companies east of the Mississippi are governed around 68 mph. They don't have 500 hp engines in them. This is a compromise with the government to keep within government mandates on emissions. Owner/ operators don't have the same rules.

@@bruce1816 LOL! 500HP OR LESS! I Have driven a vary large number of vehicles! On the other hand I have not run 80,000 lbs loads or more vary much or recently. The new trucks I drove had larger engines. However some from a company that I don't think is in business anymore had vary small engines for a semi truck and governors. However in this case the trucks are going up hill at 40mph and that has nothing to do with the governor if there is one. It has to do with pulling a load up hill. My dream semi truck would have a two cycle, 12 cylinder 2000hp 10,000ftlbs torque, air start, hand fuel shut off not electric, true automatic transmission and no computers and no particulate filters or DEF. I don't know that they ever made truck engines that big!! Clearly just a dream truck as it would be completely illegal to make a new one and illegal in many states to run one if you did have it!

A friend and I played the no brakes game for about 100KM, the last part through the city. No cheating with the transmission either. Proper manual shift. We were forced to play when the front brake pads fell out on a day trip up the coast. Normally though, I try to avoid stop start driving as it wastes fuel, so I try to time the lights to avoid braking. You'd be amazed at how many idiots accelerate past impatiently to brake sharply at the lights, causing us both to have to stop and then start from stationary. If our trip computer can display mpg, reset it and see how much fuel stopping and then accelerating wastes. It's a LOT.

Yes, I worked with family for 50 years. Father, brother, sons, uncle We were in excavating, but we cut hundreds of thousands of trees through the years. First with chain saws and then 40 ton excavators with hydraulic cutters We had our moments, but we worked well together to keep everybody safe

As a trucker, we get used to being passed,especially while hill climbing. What makes me mad is when I get passed and then they slow down, causing me to slow down. I wish I had a dollar for every time I missed my exit because I got chit-chatting. I always say that I'm a payed tourist. I'm always going places that I've never been.
