August is an interesting month for firewood. What should be a good month to take a break from the summer's worth of production and also rest up for the fall delivery season, I find myself busier than I have been this year! To me, I am not feeling very comfortable with my inventory level and I have found myself in overdrive with production. I was adding to my inventory every day last week and worked in a number of deliveries along the way. The Japa has been cranking out splits from morning till evening this last week and I did my good share of Super Splitting too! Fall is just around the corner.

Congratulations on 2k, but as of my viewing you're already at 2.31 heck you'll be at 5k before long. Have you seen those pull out platforms you can put in a truck bed? They are a flat platform that is the width of the bed between wheel wells and as long as the bed is and you pull it out like a big drawer. I was thinking about a larger version of that for your dump trailer for loading those 3 long rows like you do so you could load all from the rear of the trailer without getting in the trailer. I assume the way you load it now you have to have someone in the trailer?
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Jason... I will believe 5k when I see it...lol. Yes I have someone in the trailer when I load it. Usually one of my daughters but I will do it solo if necessary. I pay a HS boy to load or unload and stack the trailer too. I have set up my system to permit me to pull by trailer right up to the stacking area which makes things easier. I have committed to hand loading all our deliveries bc it looks good to the customer and they can measure their delivery right on the trailer.! Thanks for the suggestion. I am always looking for a better way to do things so I will get googling on it. Joe
@jasone9
@jasone9 4 жыл бұрын
@@ohiowoodburner it would probably have to be a custom built thing. I've just seen them for truck beds and they do look slick, but more $ than I would want to spend. 5k will be soon, people like when a channel sticks to a publishing schedule.

At 9:32, you advanced the log as the ram was splitting the cut log. This looks like a more efficient process. Normally you wait for the ram to return before advancing the log. Why don’t you split and advance simultaneously?
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 жыл бұрын
Good observation David. When I have smaller logs I just go hammer down. The larger logs I notice I dont advance the next cut until Im confident the round will make it thru the knife. If it gets hung up I want the chamber open to pull it out. I could always reverse the infeed but its habit I guess! Joe

Will the saw work with the safety door up?
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 жыл бұрын
The saw does not work. The only functions that work with the lid open are the infeed and knife adjustment. I was going to disable the safety hood when I first got the machine but when I saw how fast that ram moved into the wood I decided to leave it alone! lol. Joe

How do you know when you reach a cord in the trailer?
@ohiowoodburner
@ohiowoodburner 4 жыл бұрын
The trailer won't hold a complete cord when the splits are dumped in. A heaping trailer is about 3/4 cord. It's funny to me that I have developed a sense of qty after doing it long enough...I am usually pretty close in what I estimate. Joe

Hi Chase... The ugly stuff goes into my own wood shed. If the round is short I save the for chunks. I have a restaurant I deliver to that likes chunks for their one smoker. Nothing gets wasted. The sawdust and scraps are dumped strategically in my yard to build up my work area. Keeps me out of the mud during winter. Joe
