Fact about being a PFC & being scared of anything higher than a captain. While in a barbershop in Iraq. I as a PFC almost fled out of the building when it was just a 2 star general and I in line for the Barber. It literally took the general giving me an order to stay put. When he asked what was wrong with me. My response was “sorry sir first time being around a general.” He chuckled and said something to the effect of “go get your haircut cause no one will wait for you as a pfc. I as a maj general…. I loved carrying the 240. I agree with the whole anything above a Lt Col being scary as shit. When I did my Basic Para Course down here it was either those in the SF pipeline or officers and there was a Capt and a Lt Col I was in a stick with. We would share the OR’s mess during the day. We would talk crap to each other and all sorts. Had a young Lt come up and say I shouldn’t be talking to a Lt Col. the Lt Col pulled the LT up and said I don’t need you to tell a private not to talk to me, if I don’t want to talk to him I’ll tell him. I developed quite a good relationship with the Lt Col and he ended up being my Brigade Commander a couple of years later. I was in a unique situation where I wasn’t afraid of their rank, I spent the 3 years prior in the Air Force and Army doing ceremonial work and spoke with Service Chiefs, Presidents, Prime Ministers, the Pope, the Queen of England and many many more dignitaries. I found a lot of staff officers back them would be happy with you talking to them like that as lot as they knew you respected them as a person and their rank. If you just respected the rank you wouldn’t get away with it but if you respected them they were great.

Not completely accurate - it’s liquid argon. Typically of any high end thermal to make it more sensitive for heat differentials in contrast to uncooled systems. The cooler the sensor is the greater its ability to see temperature gradients to discern targets better. Cooled thermals are used on aircraft, and some vehicles too. Uncooled thermals can be used for weapon mounted optics, etc.

You should look into getting Andy Stumpf on the podcast. He's currently the owner of a Black Rifle Coffee location in Montana but before that he was a Navy SEAL (served in Development Group during the early GWOT, got injured in 2005, rehabbed himself while working as a BUD/S instructor, and then returned to Afghanistan a final time in 2010. He walked around with a .300 Winchester Magnum rifle, a SCAR-17 and a Javelin. He was the first to use the Javelin as an anti-personnel weapon. There was a reason for this; the enemy had by this point learned the effective range of standard weapons and were staying well out of it with PKMs, DShk and so on. Andy put a stop to that shit by launching around 13-14 Javelins at them. He has his own podcast called Cleared Hot. You may have run into him during the 80th Anniversary Normandy Drop as he was with Tim Kennedy, Evan Hafer, JT, Logan Stark and other members of the team. Love the podcasts, keep up the great (humorous, informative and inspiring) work.

Well come get it like a man…haha. Or yoh got that much of a beef. I worked with a tons of officers, up to Mag and Mae commanders on a daily basis, they don’t scare me, we’d talk shit as PFC’s to generals of different mags and maws’, respectively of course, we tell them they couldn’t trouble shoot or fuck their way out of wet paper bag. That was respectful for us. What we dealt with was $14 million dollar helicopters. Down to a mere $9 million dollars. He had shot ground could only dream of since Vietnam.

Credibility went to zero - as others stated not firing it for >60 secs won’t cause the missile to blow up. This is just cooled thermal sights, nothing magic. The soft launch isn’t to allow the missile to guide, it’s to not kill/injure everyone with back blast and allow firing from structures. Much respect for their service but relying on these guys to at least be semi accurate given they served.
