The Endless MotorWorks team is proud to present to you the definite guide for updating the MMI 2G. The update process for the MMI 3G in your Audi is quite similar. The main difference is that instead of using CDs, the update will need to be done through an SD card which is formatted in FAT32. By following our tutorial you will avoid triggering the CP (Component Protection) of your AMP. This guide will not only save you money, but also time, as if CP is triggered you will need to go to the dealer to get it fixed. DOWNLOAD links are further down in the description. Thank you thank you thank you. It works, but to explain some simple things to people for whom the method did not work through my experience with it, 1. After downloading the files, you must decompress them, copy them to an excellent CD, you must copy the files of Disk 1, then decompress the second file, and copy the compressed file 1 as it is. Because you will not be able to disassemble it and download it on one disk, and then it will be completed with you with ease. The update on my car A4 B8 took 5 minutes and I did not lose any sound and everything works in the correct and smooth way and also the control became faster than before, and thanks to the hero who wrote the video, had it not been for him, I would have lost a lot of money.

From the interior i think you have an s6 5.2 like me - very special and fun car but get ready to solve: coolant leak ,battery that goes down every 7-8 days that you no longer use the machine (deactivate bluetooth under the seat) ,engine light that will look like the christmas lamp that turns on and off when she wants water will come in from the rear window. an acknowledged audi defect that will damage your amplifier, mmi no longer works fm because it will go into component protection, defect adaptive light .I have listed the most frequent things that happened to our colleagues in possession of the audi s6, best regards from italy👌🏻

Damn dude, you pretty much summarized every issue the S6 currently has, except for the water coming from the rear window onto the amp (I had cleaned the drains for the sunroof in anticipation of winter season). However, besides that, everything you listed is an ongoing problem. Due to the weather (it has been snowing for the past several days) and the virus, I don't really have the possibility to work on the car as much as I wanted. Hope the weather will be better next month and allow for some repairs to be done.

Hi, the files are not corrupted, just need to follow the instructions. There are other people who in the comments explain in even more detail how to get burn the files properly. Just fyi, it is not possible to install European software on a vehicle that is from another region, as the car will not be able to read it.

Great video, incredibly huge thank you for providing the links to those updates, something like that is an absolute rarity in the in-car entertainment software scene, as I've had to unfortunately realise. I do have a few questions, though: 1. Are the maps up to date? I see they're for 2018-2019, are those the latest ones? 2. Thanks for the kind words! Now to answer the questions: 1. Audi stopped providing updates for the MMI 2G High in 2019. Thus the latest maps are from 2019. If you see a seller on Ebay stating they have 2021-2022 maps for the MMI 2G - they are lying. 2. A regular DVD-R or DVD-RW will do just fine. 3. CD changer does not have the capability to read DVDs. If you pop a DVD disk in there nothing will happen.

Hello mate. Thank you for your contribution to this matter. I tried to update my MMI 2G software but it was not reading the CD. It was saying I quote: "Drive error! Metainfo cannot be analysed!" Then below that was saying try again and cancel. I tried several times like that but it came the same text on the screen. Can you please tell me if I can do something to fix this problem. And my Audi A6 AMP is ASK. Do I need to loop the AMP when I try and update my software which is 3460 version? And last, the DVD ROM that reads the navigation, doesn't read the DVDs that I donwloaded from this tutorial, it says Check your navigation DVD, while with the original DVD it works. From what you are describing I think you might be having some issues with the actual CDs that you are using. Some other people have had issues with random CDs as well. I have had most success with CDs from Verbatim and Sony so I would recommend that you try burning the software to one of these discs and trying again. Please also make sure that you have downloaded the appropriate software version for your MMI and vehicle.

Great guide mate, well done! Do you have to use the discs in a particular sequence? I have bluetooth phone so should I start with disc 1, then disk two (twice from looking at the comments!), then disc 3? Or go with disc 1 then disc 3 then disc 2?

Yes, you will need to install them in that order. However, the first disk will bring your firmware version to 5150. If you are already on that version you can skip it. Disk 2 is for Bluetooth and telephony. Disk 3 brings the firmware of the MMI to 5570 from 5150.

I've seen a Mr Fix guide that says you can update to 5570 from 5150 or higher. I have 5170 so I'll just do disk 2 twice then disk 3. Good god.

No, you can use the firmware for Europe if the vehicle was meant for the European market.

The one which says MMI 2G navigation is for the navi only. It is optional as it has nothing to do with the MMI software itself. It is simply labeled MMI 2G Navigation, as it pertains only to that multimedia interface and is not compatible with vehicles that have the MMI 3G.

I owned Audi Q7 2007 equipped with Bose System, so Should I loop the amp or is there any another method that choose not to update the amp? and what are the possible consequences during the update process. If you have the Bose system, I can't stress enough how important it is to make the fiber optic loop and not update the AMP. If you don't do this, the update will trigger CP and you will be left with no audio or audio only on the left channel. Fixing a tripped CP is about 100 USD and a trip to the dealer. You can make a loop with a proper fiber optic loop connector, which can find on Ebay or Amazon for $15-20 before shipping.

Version 5150 is for the EU firmware. Therefore, you will need to download the firmware for MMI 2G for EU, more specifically CD3, which will bring you from 5150 to version 5570, which is the latest one available.

You can do the firmware update either with the accessories on or with the engine running. Engine running is actually preferable if the car battery isn't as strong. Please be aware that if you want to do it with the car running it will need to run during the entire update.

You are correct, this shows only for the MMI 2G and 3G. Honestly, I don't know anything about the MMI in the next generation of A6, as I don't have one of those , so even though I would like to help you out, I simply don't know the answer myself either. :)

I burned the image onto a CD, created a fiber optic loop, got all the way to inserting the CD in the engineering menu to update, but at that point it says "The medium is currently unavailable." Does the CD changer work correctly? Do you have any other disks inserted in there. I would start by checking both of these things.

I have a 2007 Audi A6 Quattro s-line 3.2L. The MMI & Amp are no longer working. If I by a new MMI circuit board and a 2nd hand amplifier will I be able to get everything working properly by just using this CD update as you describe? Or will I still need to have the 2nd hand amp that I buy decoded? Also how can I find out if my current (not working) MMI is the 2G or 3G version?

If your car is a 2007 that means it is before the facelift and you have the MMI 2G. You will need to have the MMI and the amp coded after you transfer all of the necessary components from the donor car. There is no other way around it.

If the version currently says NONE, then probably someone messed with the firmware at some point. There probably are some custom additions. What exactly these are, I can't say for sure. I don't recommend trying to update the firmware by yourself in this case though. I would say bring in the car to the dealership and let them update it with their proprietary tools.

hey, on the 2 linko for wetrn Europe there are two files on MEGA. One is _MACOEX and the other is MMI2G_HIGH_.4L0 .... I assume that I only burn the files from the second file (MMI2G_HIGH_.4L0 ....), right?

My 2008 a5 2.7 tdi says to insert navigation disk and there is no sat nav. In order to have sat nav, do I burn the maps on a cd and just insert it in the navigation dvd or there is a different procedure? Is there new maps for free or the latest are as in the description 2018-2019?Thank you!

The sat nav for MMI 2G works with DVDs. So you will need to burn the maps to a DVD disk and insert that in the navigation computer. Once that is done and you turn on the car you will get a message on the MMI stating that new maps have been detected and prompting you to update. Just click yes on that. After a couple of minutes you are all set. For the MMI 2G there are no newer versions of the maps. Audi discontinued the support with the 2018-2019 version.

Which wires are you referring to? The ones I am disconnecting from the amp or something else? Navigation installation is separate from the firmware update. On cars with MMI 2G and equipped with navigation the navigation computer is in the trunk and has a DVD reader, the DVD with the appropriate maps needs to be inserted there.

Of the Audi MMI 3G High Firmware Update files, which I think correspond to my browser, which of all the zip files do I have to unpack into an SD and enter in the browser? You will need to install first 0031. Once done you can install 0257. What cables do you think you need to disconnect? Except for bypassing the amp, there isn't anything else.

Does it matter if you download the update discs yourself to blank DVDs instead of blank CDs. Does it make a difference with Data or this procedure?

For the MMI 2G you cannot use DVDs, as the CD changer will not recognize them. What I recommend is sticking to plain normal CDs. I have had the best experience with Verbatim disks so I can recommend those.

Hi, I am happy that you found the video helpful. There is something that you have misunderstood, however. MMI 2G and MMI 3G are not software versions, but rather hardware iterations. Meaning there are hardware differences between MMI 2G and 3G. Therefore, if you want to upgrade your vehicle from MMI 2G to 3G you will need to take apart the dashboard and change quite a few physical components. In that sense you will be "retrofitting" MMI 3G in a vehicle that didn't come with that.

Version "2" is RoW (Rest of World). So you will need to install the correct version depending in your region. Therefore, you don't need to put both files on the card and install after another. Rather, just the appropriate one for you :)

Depends on how corrupted the firmware is. Sometimes simply doing this update fixes the bootloader issue. sometimes it doesn't. Really depends.

I have an Audi 2007 A6 4.2 . My CD player is skipping, I looked it up to discover it be fixed with a software update. My question is would the upgrade work in the CD changer if its skippng?

If the CD player is skipping there is a good chance the update might not work out. You can try to open it up and clean the lens, as that is the usual culprit for skipping. If it is still the same I would recommend taking it to someone to diagnose and repair or simply find a working used CD changer.

Hi, currently my MMI is displaying the bootloader screen so I am unable to use the MMI. I've seen online on people saying that I need to just put the firmware disc in. Now I have burned these ISOs to a CD at the slowest speed, and the files are all there, however, on the screen, it searches for the Metainfo file, then says No Metainfo file found. I've made another copy of CDs with trying to alter the filename from Metainfo2 to Metainfo but it is still throwing the same message. Mine is a 2007 Audi A6 with 2G High. The current version of it is 5570. Any suggestions please?.....

If you currently are on version 5570, you will only need to use the last CD. Also make sure you are downloading the one for Europe. 5570 is an European firmware, so this is what you need to be using.

Hey, I have a 2008 s5 with 2g. I’ve attempted disc one, but on the progress it gets to about 9% and the status reads unlock (currently at 240 and counting) any ideas?

My suggestion is to try once again. Could be some sort of a glitch. If it gets stuck at exactly the same place a second time, then the CD changer obviously has trouble reading that section. Could be due to a dirty lens on the changer, issue with the CD itself or the way the firmware was burned to the disk. Can't say for sure.

Hi. I have bought the dvd’s from audi dealership as wel as optic fibre loop. In insert the dvd and it recognizes everything but on all the updates is says N instead of S/Y. So it won’t update anything. When I try push on “start download” it immediately gives me error: “no devices selected for updating”. I cannot select them manually either. Hope you can help me with this. It is an audi a8 d3 from 2004 with mmi 2g high with software version 0835 so it’s not like it’s not neccesary.

Installing the second update shouldn't be necessary. Most likely these additional options where coded before and will need to be recoded again. Central locking specifically has nothing to do with the MMI so that is a separate issue. For starters I would recommend having the vehicle scanned for errors and take it from there.

Vehicles from 2011 should already be using the MMI 3G, which updates through an SD card. If you decide to upgrade the firmware make sure you use the correct one for your vehicle and region. To answer your question regarding the Bluetooth - no. Mi both the MMI 2G and 3G Bluetooth is for telephony only and doesn't support music playback. If you want to be able to play music through Bluetooth you will need to have an AMI (Audi Music Interface) -equipped vehicle and buy the appropriate Bluetooth adapter for it.

From the version MMI version your vehicle seems that it is currently running a North American firmware. However the updates that I have provided for the MMI 2G are for Europe only. I searched everywhere for the American firmware but it has been pretty much taken down from everywhere due to copy-right. You can try and update the firmware with the EU version anyway, but I cannot guarantee that it will work out. The other option is to find a seller that has the correct update CDs for your region. Regarding the AMP, if it is just the basic one (not Bose or B&O) it should be fine without the fiberoptic loop. Green menu can be unlocked with VCDS. I haven't done this on my car so I cannot tell you how to do it step-by-step. Still, there are several forum threads on the various Audi forums describing how to do that in length. The MMI 2G and MMI 3G are physically different MMI systems. Therefore, you cannot upgrade from 2G to 3G by flashing software. If you want to do this upgrade there are kits that are sometimes being sold on Ebay and they include all of the necessary components. It is quite a job to make it all work though as you will need to disassemble the entire front dash and probably also run new wiring from the navigation in the trunk to the front of the car.

Hi mate, 0031_3; 0206_3; 0253; 0257_6 is the order of the firmware updates. If yours is on 0029_D1, I strongly recommend that you update to each version once at a time, rather than directly to the latest (0257_6) just to avoid any issues. You will need to unzip every package once at a time and put it on the SD card. Once the update is installed, reformat the SD card and put the next update on it. Repeat the process until you have updated to the latest firmware. The SD card needs to be formatted in FAT32 or it will not get recognized by the car. Also do not use a huge size SD card. The smaller the better; it just needs to have enough storage space for the update itself. I am saying this because some bigger sized SD cards are not correctly read if you are on a very early MMI version, like the one that you are on. Also, do not put more than one unzipped package at the same time on the SD card, as the MMI will get confused. Good luck!

To update the sat nav, no. If you are doing the firmware update on the MMI 2G, probably not as well. That being said, I can't guarantee 100% that CP will not be triggered. I would say batter safe than sorry - just isolate the amp, takes 10min to do, saves $100 + a trip to the dealer :)

As I am not super familiar with that model year, first and most importantly, do you have MMI with navigation or just normal Concert? As far as I know, streaming music through AMI Bluetooth isn't available on cars that don't have MMI with navigation. From what I see there is an adapter which some people have been using - tune2air and have had success with it.

No need to buy anything. Just go to Audi and have them remove CP (component protection) for the amp. It gets triggered sometimes during the update. It will cost you around 100 usd

@@argutilas You will need to start from the first CD (CD1), which will bring your very old version to 5150. From there you can use CD3 to upgrade to 5570. Unless you have Bluetooth telephony, you don't need to use CD2 at all. Regarding the AMP fiber optic looping, you will need to do it if you have the upgraded BOSE or B&O AMPs.

The navigation DVD for Europe is divided into two parts -Western and Eastern Europe. If you are unsure of your firmware version, you should begin with the first CD. It brings any older version to 5150. From there, you can use the third CD to upgrade to the latest one. CD2 is only for telephony. If you don't have that option, you don't need to use it.

No, it will not fix it. Based on the described symptom, most probably the fix of the amp has triggered CP (Component Protection). You will need to go to the dealer and have it removed.

If you have the 2G MMI you must use the 2G firmware update. If your SW is 0310 you will need to update to 5150 first before going to 5570. In short CD1 and CD3 are a must. CD2 is only necessary if you have Bluetooth telephony. If you don't have the option then you can just skip it.
