having just done this let me offer some tips. 1) if you have a version lower than 51.5 - then you need to update to that spec and then do a second update to 55.7 (the final version 2) The biggest problem I had was getting CD to go into setup - the trick is first press setup and then whilst still holding it down then press the return button (not both at same time as is suggested) hold them for about three seconds then you can then proceed 3) scroll down on screens shown because you have to hit the download button - where that is seems to vary between various YT videos

hello, i have version D3-HU 27.4.0 do i need to update? also can you tell me how to findout what version navigation software i have? is it upgradable? on my 07 a8l 4.2 i have trouble opening the "secret" menu everyone talks about. holding return and setup doesnt work for me. any ideas?

you need to turn on "hidden menu" with VCDS first, check my other video or go to the website. Navigation software is at the info button of the navigation screen, I think.

If you add AMI (Audi music interface) to play iphone, ipod, hard drive MP3 using MMI as controls, you need this software version, if not, just leave it alone. If it works, don't touch it.

Why do you want to update the software? You will need computer to get back some functions after update? If everything works don't touch it.

I guess everyone has asked where to buy the CD but I do not see a link for it. I do not have many features on MMI and can not access green menu , is this a good reason to update my software or is there something else I can do ?

Mark Fuller don’t need to update software, don’t run around and try things that isn’t related to your problem, buy an OBDII tool to turn the green screen to enable suspension. Take it to the shop, they can turn it back on for you.

I think you must use CD changer, just make sure the first CD is working and all other slots are empty.

It’s not the software upgrade, someone turned off the suspension menu. Try to turn it back on, goto the D4 forum and ask how to get the suspension menu back

Enzo Dunn the Update only needed if you’re going to install AMI, to play MP3. It claims to improve Bluetooth phones on a certain Android, I’ve never had any problems with my Android or IPhone before. I needed because I was going to retrofit backup camera and AMI. If you don’t plan to upgrade AMI and the system works, don’t bother, you definitely need VCDS or alike to get back some MMI options.

No, you don't have to connect to the charger, but you don't want the battery to go low and corrupt the head unit and brick it. You can keep the car running for the whole duration. The thing is just make sure the car has good power during the process.

3dogs1monkey Thanks for the response. That's what I'm planing to do, the power source that I'm planing to use is from a tow truck (good power source). Also, I have another question for you: I recently changed the entire MMI unit because of a liquid spill. Now I have very few features available. So an update will help restore all of the features?

All the features can be enabled through VCDS if you have one. Most of the features will disappear like battery meter, speed settings, watch some of my videos after updating software. Good luck,

It's 2006, no usb high speed then, from CD player at the lowest speed I'm sure to be safe for reading data. I left for almost 1/2 hr to eat dinner... Yes, it was cold.
