Sprites = Mix of Faithful Recreations, Toned-Down Expressions and just redesigned characters to look more modern & consistent with Dream Team & Paper Jam (was afraid of that, miss the Toads having different shapes & sizes, haven't seen that in years) however I am surprised that the ? Blocks are based off the original. Actually would've loved for the ones in the Mushroom Kingdom to be from DT/PJ while the BeanBean ones to be based off the original. To help illustrate how the kingdoms are similar but unique from each other. Music = Perfection, like seriously, the original music is so good I wouldn't mind hearing direct rips but these remixes are amazing! Classic Sound Effects = Pure Nostalgia, always loved the voice clips for the Bros in this game, although the mixture of new ones do stand out like a sore thumb. New Sound Effects = Underwhelming, makes a lot of moments feel less epic in my opinion like when Cackletta summons lightning for example, however I did notice that the explosion sound for Peach's Text was changed from the trailer, sounds like they pack a little bit more punch than before but not as much as the original. However this does mean that other sound effects might change before release. Overall, this remake looks fantastic and I can't wait for October!

I haven't seen people complaining about a remake this much ever since Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire. Just goes to show how nostalgia can make one become a spoiled child over the tiniest details. Just be glad that Alpha Dream actually cared enough to do this, and not give us another bland NSMB-style RPG. Regardless, the Dream Team artstyle in this game is absolutely gorgeous. And I can't stress enough about the amazing remastered music. Shimomura never ceases to amaze me. Hopefully, this remake will be a wake up call for Nintendo to stop stripping out the charm in Mario RPGs. *You better be taking notes, Intelligence System.* Edit: OH THANK GOD. NO FORCED TUTORIALS IN THIS GAME EITHER.

I don't wanna sound like a "purist" but it's obvious what Nintendo has been doing with the more recent mario RPGs (sticker star, color splash, paper jam) has sort of leaked into this game. Really liking the fact that it appears the tutorials aren't required but they still tell you they're there. That's probably the best compromise between those that need them - who might not know they exist if you don't call attention to them - and those that don't and who have therefore gotten annoyed by them in the past couple games.

One complaint is how they turned the koopa Kruiser minions into regular old Koopas as opposed to their designs in the original. Chances are they did the same to the other unique enemies too.....

Unique Enemies that aren't variations of Mushroom Kingdom Enemies are the same. A lot of enemies, like Troopeas and Lakipeas have been changed to be variations of normal Koopas and Lakitus. The toads in the courtyard are now just bland recolors instead of Male and Females.

Superstar Saga may be my favourite M&L game. Compared to Paper Jam its enemies are creative and while the bosses can be tough, they're not as unfair as PJ's. I also love its simplicity without 2D sections or other playable characters, its writing, the humour and especially the localisation. In the german version they use insults, that I would have never expected in a Nintendo game. XD But of course they'll change it in the remake. ;)

Oh, god... The nostalgia is TOO STRONG, but I still have some problems with this. First of all, all Toads are generic colored Toads and the female toads are just pink Toads. The Koopas from the Bowser's Baddies are just generic green Koopas, they don't have a pilot hat anymore. The exaggerated faces from the original were toned down and this sucks. Like, Toad's head doesn't grow anymore at 2:22. The musical transition at 1:05 is very poor and it removes some of the tension of the original. In the original the music stops at this scene. Same thing goes to 5:20. The new save screen doesn't have Mario's hand writing on it and that makes me sad. :/ Also, the whole game seems slower. But I got to give them some credit. The remade backgrounds are beautiful and the lighting is a nice touch. They also kept the original design for the Question Blocks witch is very nostalgic. They kept Fawful's original voice when they could replaced it with MLBIS sound clips and of course, the remastered soundtrack is the best part. I can see Yoko Shimomura had a real blast remastering these tunes. Such a shame this level of attention wasn't kept for whole product. Also, Luigi doesn't says OMANATOTONOTOREBARO anymore. I bet Mario isn't going to say POTUTEPOTATO either. :(

I don't want to sound rude, but "Toads don't have genders anymore" is one of the stupidest things I ever heard. That was never directly confirmed. The only reason the Toads are generic now is to reuse sprites from Dream Team. Also, yes, these are minor details, but some minor details like these are what add charm to an experience. The remake looks great, but it looks too vanilla and "New Super Mario Bros-fied".

Nope. That's not how it goes. It wasn't Mario's creator (Shigeru Miyamoto) who said that, it was the producer of Captain Toad, Koichi Hayashida. And he said that "we never really went out of our way to decide on the sex of these characters". They didn't stopped to think about Toad's gender when they were first making Super Mario Bros., but that was settled after. He never said they were "genderless". That's just a sensationalist statement that gaming websites over-exaggerated. That doesn't means Toads are genderless. There are a lot of games that explicitly have male and female Toads. And even you ignore those, Toadette is still around in more recent games.

Genericdude NSMB'd what are you talking about they just updated it for the 3DS plus the only reason they look different was due to hardware limitations back then not to make it more Like NSMB plus it just sounds stupid they just modern end the sprites there's no inspiration to take from NSMB at all when it just always been Mario and Luigi's design they just modernized it you can't expect them to keep the same Sprite work for years especially with stronger Hardware

Okay, first off, NSMB'd just means that the designs look like the generic designs that were in NSMB when it would've been better to just keep the designs from the original game and just update it. NSMB seemed to be the starting point where Nintendo stopped making unique variant designs of their characters and just reused the same design over and over. NSMB was just the start of that trend, hence the term. Also, what do you mean that the hardware limitation held the designs back in the original games. The fact that they're reusing the same old designs is rather disappointing when they could've just used the more unique designs from the original game. You do realize that character designs can be independent from the hardware, right? In the original game, they made unique designs for many characters. We're just wanting them to be updated to fit the art style of modern M&L while keeping the designs. Your argument about them not reusing old spritework is moot when either way, they're still reusing designs. It's just that it'd be preferable if they used the designs from the original game instead of using the designs that are used in nearly every Mario game nowadays. To be clear, this doesn't ruin the game. Not at all. Hell, Dream Team is my favorite game in the series and I actually like Paper Jam more than the original Superstar Saga. SS had better designs, but Paper Jam had better gameplay. Also, with this stronger hardware, why wouldn't they use it to bring back the unique designs of the original game instead of just reusing sprites that they used in Paper Jam?

I like how it looks, I like how they've made tutorials snappier (we have Paper Jam to thank for that one) and I like what they've done for the standard battle theme, hopefully other songs will get that treatment as well. I don't understand the shit the visuals get, I think it looks nice.

I guess it's because the visuals look copy-pasted from Dream Team and Paper Jam. At least the character sprites do. It's cool they're sticking to the 2D-ish backgrounds. Also from looking at the video, some of the wacky expressions and animations have been toned down.

I mean, it's obviously the same engine, so that should surprise nobody. But even then, I also did not think those games looked bad, graphically speaking. Sure, not everything from the original carried over as well as it could have, but there are also things that carried over much better than they would've needed to. Very obvious example would be Bowser's sprite. If there's one thing I see people agree on a lot, it's that Bowser's Superstar Saga sprite just did not look good... This model is taken right from Dream Team, I believe, but I do like how it looks a lot.
