@bdc211
@bdc211 3 жыл бұрын
but a 21 will have different dynamics/characteristics than an 18, regardeless of overall cone area... you can pretty much visually see in the video, the difference...
@jimbobdobbs1597
@jimbobdobbs1597 2 жыл бұрын
Yes, but the bigger the area the slower the response is going to be for punch, and notice these larger drivers IDEALLY should be mounted up or down, to help minimize gravity distortion. Great for the slow rolling lows, but for me i'd round 1 or 2 out with some10"s or 12"s for the punchier 65-120 hz on a different channel. Thats why i love the newer programmable dsp's, i plan to do exactly that. 18's for 60 & down.
@Chuck_Sanders
@Chuck_Sanders Жыл бұрын
@@jimbobdobbs1597 when it comes to drivers, the size of the driver, or cone size, does not dictate whether a smaller sub, say 8" is faster in response to a frequency, then a larger driver with say, an 18" cone. Whatever Hz is being played, that's how many cycles the cone moves. A driver will play to what the enclosure is to tuned too, regardless of size. It's a total myth, that smaller drivers, are more "punchy" than larger drivers. Typically, drivers (subwoofers) have a frequency response from as in the low 20hz's range, on up too 100hz or more.
@RandoManFPV
@RandoManFPV Жыл бұрын
@@Chuck_Sanders yes! But also a subwoofer does have a resonant frequency (fs?) That gives you an idea of how well it will preform on lower or high frequencies right? A 15" with a fs of 32 probably won't be as efficient or accurate when playing 25hz; as compared to a 21" with an fs of 28 also playing 25hz..... right? And I assume this is why people say that multiple 15s or 18s just doesn't slap in the same way that some serious 21s would slap
@Chuck_Sanders
@Chuck_Sanders Жыл бұрын
@@RandoManFPV the fs of a driver, determines virtually nothing, as to how low or high in the frequency band it will play. The fs is basically a useless number. Fs is simply the resonance of the parts in a free air environment, in all honesty it is pretty much a worthless parameter. It does not indicate the frequency response of a sub (lower Fs is not going to automatically "hit lower" contrary to popular belief) and Higher Fs does not mean that a sub will not "hit the low notes". A speaker simply does what you tell it to do in the environment that you put it in. Putting a High Fs subwoofer in a box tuned to 33Hz does not mean it is not going to play the frequency range from the Fs to tuning..and totally miss it. That is not how it works and is totally urban myth. It will do whatever you tell it to do, including destroy itself. Simply because it does not know any better. Qts is the "overall Q" of the speaker, and is something that dictates motor force and what kind of enclosure a speaker should be in. Low Qts woofers (say .35 and down) should be in a ported alignment mostly. Mid Qts woofers (say .36 to . 45 or so) works well in a sealed or ported alignment. High Qts woofers (say .46 and higher arbitrarily) works best in a sealed alignment. Again, these figures are arbitrary and what usually, is 'optimal' for a musical scenario and daily driving. This is not a law, it is simply what I have experienced over the last 3 decades. However, you can stick a high qts woofer in a ported enclosure..and get one heck of a peak out of it...and make it work great for SPL . Qts is indicative of motor force as well. (Bl)Lower Qts will allow more motor force, Higher QTS will not allow it. And the Mms plays a huge role in performance and sound quality. Higher mms typically is sq drivers, where as lighter mms values, are better for spl. Hope this helps.

Yes. They do. Low and loud bass levels do not damage the "hairs" like higher frequency levels do. 10,000hz at 160 decibels, experienced for a minimal time, will have you digging your pinky fingers in your ear canals so far they touch. 200hz and lower, bass levels- are just big, slow, waves of air that carry that low thumping noise that are fun to experience.

At higher frequencies, yes... low frequencies, not so much. Having 158 decibel noise from say... a siren, or jet engine... you'll go deaf quickly. 170db at 24hz... you can listen all day without negative effect. What happens if you are listening to 15hz at 200 decibels? Nothing. You can't even hear it. You're welcome for the sound education you just got (double meaning).
