Do you have a KZbin channel that teaches the language?

We have a playlist of our "Let's Talk Cherokee" series. You should also follow Visit Cherokee Nation and Cherokee Nation's KZbin channel. They post multiple videos of how to pronounce words and phrases in Cherokee.

Where are any of the mixed Cherokee/Black people and/or Freedmen in this video? Were there any? Or were they excluded? As a nation, we have a long history of accepting our people who are mixed with white/European ancestry. But we don’t as often extend the same inclusivity and respect to people who have mixed Cherokee and Black ancestry. We also have a racist history of excluding Freedmen to whom we owe a debt just as the United States owes citizenship, human rights protections, and reparations to descendants of enslaved peoples. We even tend to unfairly deny that many Freedmen are of mixed ancestry even if many are mostly of African ancestry. The Dawes rolls are not the sole determination of our heritage. Plenty of Cherokee people weren’t present to be recorded on the rolls or chose to go undocumented for all kinds of reasons. A scarcity mindset only serves the US government’s divide-and-conquer tactics. We shouldn’t exclude some of our Cherokee relatives from the tribe and from the right to cultural connection so there’s more govt funding and resources for a select group of the community. Yes, it does make sense to exclude the most distantly related people or the people who falsely claim Cherokee heritage, both of whom usually have only a stereotyped misunderstanding of Cherokee culture and no true desire to connect authentically in a grounded, humanized way with heritage and our values including living in balance with Nature. But it doesn’t make sense to exclude Black Cherokee people, Freedmen, and other people of mixed Cherokee ancestry who seek to respectfully connect with their Indigenous heritage and do so with proper sensitivity. Cherokee people are a rainbow nation. Diversity is beautiful. We need to equally love and embrace all of our people regardless of skin color and mixed ancestry.

it was not "exclusion", because "exclusion" would mean that there were mixed Cherokee people who applied to be in the video and were rejected. Which is NOT the case, at all. ❤️ Don't ascribe malice where there isn't any. ❤️
