God, this is sublime perfection. What memories. When Larry said "Tatter tots" and Chris Elliott, always in serious character, had to bow his head to avoid laughing. And 'Mrs. Frank Di'Anello' dancing with James Brown at the end? Just bizarre perfection.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Thank you, Don Giller. In Canada we have a thing called the Giller Prize, which goes to the author of the year's best novel. I submit that you receive the Giller Prize for being Don Giller. Vote now and vote often.

Don - I agree with the masses...You ‘da man! Your posts are the best! Thank you for what you do. Have you seen a Viewer Mail skit (February 1985?) where the viewer complained that Paul was rude to them on a commercial flight. In the recreation of the event, according to Paul’s memory, he was going to autograph a Gutenberg Bible for the guy. However, Paul was forced to diss the guy so he could land the plane after the crew was incapacitated? I was in the audience that night, which is a story unto itself. Keep up the GREAT work!

James Brown clearly was not feeling it that night but still knocked it out of the park. What a pro.

I've always loved Paul's genuine admiration for James Brown (and many of the musical guests and band members throughout the years). He's so passionate about music and has the ability to hype everyone up so much... not that James Brown needed help in that department.
@plaws04 жыл бұрын
DAMN! James Brown's performance of Jam could be it's own show. Wow. The rest of the show was pretty damn funny, too. Thanks for the non-chemical flashback, Don. Damn.

Have you ever met David Letterman? And if so how was the experience? It seems as if your work preserving his work would have eventually reached his ear.
@dongiller4 жыл бұрын
I’ve met him several times, all very fleeting and inconsequential. I never introduced myself, so he didn’t know who I was, nor should he have. I’ve since learned that he’s aware of my digitalizing all of his Late Nights. That’s all of which I can speak with any certainty.

Don, could you help with the origin of the quote, "and by the industry of course I mean the business"? Was this a Paul Shaffer quote that became sort of a running joke? I thought this came from an interview with Paul but I have never been able find the original source for this. Thank you for this channel and all you do!

Don, do you think there was a “best” anniversary show (or do you have a favorite)? I always loved the third, but that’s probably because I had it on Betamax and watched it 50 times in the year or two after it aired.
@dongiller4 жыл бұрын
Impossible to adequately answer. I also loved the Third, mostly for its unpredictability. The Tenth for its ultimate height of the show’s success. (Dave brought Gaines onstage at Radio City Music Hall during rehearsal and told her she’ll never see anything like this again.) The Fourth for its mere concept. The First here for miraculously surviving the year and being given the clearance to continue for another.

If anything disappointed me about the very, very, very last Late Show, it's that he didn't bring out the giant door knob.
