Wanting to move out sometimes this year with my fiance, this will be my first time EVERRRRRR. I knew i would need a roommate because, rent is expensive where I live, and even if I did make an immaculate amount of money, my parents would literally never cosign. They're Hispanic and oml, they thought the idea of me getting my own car was blasphemy. Anyways, I'm really nervous, the cheaper end of rent here is 1.6k which I know for a lot of places is really good, but not for a minimum wage worker of $12/hour, but I am really tired of being under my parents control, I'm 22 and have a curfew of 9:00, even on weekends🙃, also I am not allowed to go to bars with friends, or spend the night anywhere else other than my parents. So yes, I think it's time lol

I'm 19, almost 20 in a few months, I know It's not exactly the same, but my parents are also Hispanic. I have so much trouble communicating with my mom about these subjects. She doesn't like letting me go out even when I do all my chores. Yes, I live under her roof, and I know it's her rule, but sometimes I think she's scared to let me grow up. I still get my phone taken away and I get grounded. She switches curfews often, but it's gone from 7pm to 10pm to 11 pm and back to 7pm. I don't do drugs or drink and I am a pretty calm daughter. I'm not so sure why Hispanic parents act this way, but it does get draining. I want to move out, but it's a tough decision since I am still in college. I'm considering taking a break from school and saving for an apartment. I just wanted to share a bit of my situation for advice and to let others know that they're not alone.

@@suryperez8025 I totally get it, my mom is the same. Only recently did she let loose on me a bit. I am also a full time student, so I get the stress behind it all, my mentality is that. Will it be hard? Absolutely. Stressful? Most likely. But will it be YOUR life to control? 100%. And that to me is worth the weight of responsibility. Start little though, I bought my own phone and got on my own phone plan first, my parents ended up being fine with it, I’m now in the process of getting my own car (finally). Then I move out. Nothing under their name, nothing to hold me back. It sounds terrible but I feel that you have make sure all your t’s are crossed and i’s are dotted. Become as independent as you can so that when you leave they can’t use something against you.
@alexa-yn3wm5 ай бұрын
I felt that because I’m 22 and currently residing in my mom’s living room. She is also Hispanic and has pretty strict rules as well. I’m still currently in school but it’s starting to get to the point where I desperately need my own space and would like to just be more independent. It makes it so much more difficult when you live in California when it’s so much more expensive. Right now everything is feeling impossible but I know in the future I’ll be able to move out eventually.

One thing I really enjoy about having friends in their 20s is stuff like this. We're all learning things together! Definitely saving this for when I graduate in December!

what if your parents cant sign for you? My dad is unemployed and my mom makes $100 more every 2 weeks than me (I make $600 every 2 weeks)
@Jasynn-Nydia Жыл бұрын
Most places will require you to pay more going in things like a higher security deposit more fees. (It sucks I know) You could also save enough to be able to pay for the full year or however long your gonna be there or you could ask around your family more for a co-signer. And for sure stable job is more than necessary.
