I think one of biggest things that goes unnoticed in this movie due to all the great action and dialogue etc. Is the tremendous amount of SADNESS that Stallone plays Rambo with. Its always with him. It never leaves not for one second in the entire film. The sadness of a man who's been too far, seen too much and will never be wide eyed about anything again, and the very LAST of his kind, Stallone pulled that off BRILLIANTLY.

I never understood why Stallone didn't receive an award for this film. I've seen it at least two hundred times and every times and I never tire of seeing it again and again. Thank you for sharing with us these few scenes that disappeared during the final editing of the film. No regrets for me, Rambo first blood is great like that.

Sadly, the eventual remake of this movie will be awful. Rambo will still be a veteran, updated as having served in Afghanistan or Iraq. Teasle will still be the town police chief, only now she will be a woman. When she sees Rambo, instead of harassing or arresting him, she buys him a meal at a local diner and talks with him. She recognizes in Rambo the same PTSD that her dead husband had. Her husband was also a veteran, who came back from the war with extreme PTSD and eventually committed suicide. Now she wants to help Rambo in a way she couldn't help her husband. Eventually she convinces him to stay in town and seek counseling and therapy from the clinic in town, which is run by a scrappy, outspoken, liberal, anti war, African American female social worker named Sam(antha) Troutman. Somewhere along the way Rambo falls in love with the police chief, and there's a gratuitous sex scene of them making love. Galt is still a jerk, and causing trouble, only now it's because he's a racist, a misogynist, and possibly a neo-nazi white supremacist. Galt hates the social worker Troutman because she's black, and the police chief Teasle because she's a woman, and he thinks he should be the police chief instead. Galt, and all of the deputies(except Mitch, who is gay) are secretly part of a local anti government militia group. Rambo teams up with the female police chief Teasle, the Black social worker Troutman, and gay Mitch, to defend the town from attack by Galt's local, gun toting, neo nazi, anti government militia group. Having used his military skills one last time, Rambo throws his medals, including the Congressional Medal of Honor, into the trash, after making a derogatory speech about the evils of Republicans and conservatives. Rambo and Teasle live happily ever after. Troutman is elected Mayor, and Mitch becomes the new police chief. The end. Or at least that's the way Hollywood would rewrite the story nowadays.

Well, people need a reason. As getting to know a person. Having social skills helps. Check out Laura at the Bruderhoff on you tube. Bruderhoff have rules though, yet??? Which knowing what you enjoy, finding others that do the same can be an issue, especially if there's distance. As I know what you are saying, as I've been alone a long time myself. I only mention this as like the good book says, to have friends a person needs to be friendly. Now sometimes a person can be in an area where it isn't conducive to themselves. Like small towns are right for some and not others. Same with different areas of a neighborhood.

First Blood is such a great movie. It's my favorite of all the Rambo movies. I think it's a shame Sylvester Stallone didn't get an Oscar nomination for his performance in the movie. His acting in it was really good. A realistic portrayal of a Vietnam veteran suffering from PTSD. The film reflects on bullying and how bullying can go too far. It was disgusting how Teasle, Galt, Ward and other deputies treated him. Delmar Berry's mother was no better and was unfriendly towards Rambo. It shows how poorly treated the Vietnam Vets were treated back then.

1981rawin I think the lack of quality in the sequels can partially be blamed on Stallone. He was having little success in non-Rocky films so This was something of a make or break film when he did it, plus it had been in and out of production for like 10 years with different people attached to star in it so he might've taken a pay cut to do it. I'm betting Sly saw how good this film might be and demanded a different ending where Rambo lived so there would be a sequel.

I live near Hope, the town this movie was filmed at. The downtown still looks the same as it did in 1982. A sleepy little town one hour from Vancouver that has basically stayed the same. We also like going for walks at the Othello Tunnels where Rambo jumped off the rock wall. The wood bridge that Rambo walks over when Teasle looks in rear view mirror was torn down about 5-7 years ago. A bunch of Rambo lovers did a reunion at the bridge before they ripped it down

Well no wonder this movie got so many versions out there. According to the people who worked on this movie it had so many scenes edited out from a total runtime of like 180 mins and that's double the duration of the original release. This really deserves a Special Edition/Director's Cut.

From what I've gathered Johnny was a real asshole in the book. "There are no friendly civilians!" was screamed before running into a grocery store and killing eighteen people. The Rambo in the book is a far more calloused and damaged man than the one in the film.

Shane McCoy The Rambo in the book is psycho. They toned him down so the message about veterans and ptsd would get across.
@ravenousfire7798
@ravenousfire7798 7 жыл бұрын
Rambo wasnt a psycho, he was a highly trained killer who couldnt fit into civilian life. He got harassed just about everywhere he went because he had a long beard and hair. Teasle and Rambo were both war veterans. The book illustrates a generational gap in how people were treated coming back from WWII and Korea and how things changed when vets came back from Vietnam. Teasle just saw Rambo as a hippie and Rambo was through taking crap from people. Both were stubborn and prideful, and it ended up getting a lot of people killed.
@emt5330
@emt5330 7 жыл бұрын
Johan Doah but nonetheless, Sly wanted to make a point about veterans with ptsd and the way they were treated. That's why they toned him down so that no one dies by his hand. They also humanized him by giving him a first name ( he was just Rambo in the book.)
@ravenousfire7798
@ravenousfire7798 7 жыл бұрын
emt5330 What do you mean nonetheless. You can't say "Rambo in the books was a psycho" and then shift the goalposts. He wasn't a psycho. Trautman even says that he was tested for psychological fitness and that he was better put together than Teasle. Neither Rambo nor Teasle are one dimensional characters. They each have failings and strengths, and are both critically flawed. The author wanted the book to represent both sides where you couldnt obviously say one was right and the other wrong.

Something similar happens in the film as well. military vets aside, it makes sense that a small town would not want vagrants hanging around and Teasel tried to get rid of him peacefully. It was Galt that started the whole thing with his heavy handed behavior, the razor sent Rambo over the edge and then it was on. Without Galt, Rambo may have simply been a pain in the neck, done some time and then been released.

@dongilleo9743
@dongilleo9743 4 жыл бұрын
It would be interesting to hear what Teasle's definition of vagrancy is. Seems like it was more, "I don't like the look of you, so if you don't leave town I'm going to arrest you". Rambo wasn't a vagrant. He was travelling through town, and planning to get something to eat. If he was going to get something to eat, he probably had some money. It's not like he was a homeless person hanging around town. The "resisting arrest" charge is ironically funny. Given the way Rambo went through all of Teasle's men escaping from the jail, and again in the woods, Rambo was obviously capable of putting Teasle down right then and there. Far from resisting, Rambo let himself be arrested, and Teasle is lucky to have survived.
